  • "Really enjoyed our visit."

The house was very tidy and beautiful. A couple of issues were some of the information provided was out of date. For example the local Jubilee inn has been closed by down for many years. The bedrooms are one king size, one double, two singles and a single with a pull out. But this didn’t effect our great time that we had. The pool table was a big hit.

  • "Lovely spacious cottage in a quiet village location."

Newly fitted kitchen not yet shown on the online photos was a nice surprise. Plenty of room for relaxing on an evening and pool table was a nice for the children on an evening (pool cues have seen better days). Garden was on two levels and large cobbles to access the areas which the dogs didn’t like and would be difficult for any elderly guests. Would have been nice to have been left a dishcloth to wash up on first night as no dishwasher tablets were provided to put us on. Milk and cake were left (thank you), bring your own teabags so you can have a cuppa when you arrive. Jubilee Inn is the nearest pub (10 min drive) with a Spa & Premier shop in the same village. Would love to return to this lovely part of Cornwall.

  • "The holiday and accomodation was excellent, just over too quickly."

FYI it rained quite heavily the first day and the water came in through the double back door by utility, this may be an overflow from blocked gutter, didnt cause us an issue but may be worth checking. There were also two pool balls missing (1 red and 1 yellow) and the triangle is too small for the pool balls. - having said that, it didnt stop us playing. Overall and excellent stay and would definately return.

Pool table and games were good to have although we were lucky with the weather so were out a lot of the time. The garden was ideal four our 4 dogs so on the whole we were very happy with the cottage.

  • "The village of lanreath is out of the way so lots of driving required."

The cottage was lovely but has limited wardrobe space. The garden is on three levels so not good for families/dogs/people with limited mobility.

  • "Sorry to be so late with this review as I thought I had done it at the time."

We had a truly fantastic time at this house. Just the two of us and four dogs. Amazing beaches nearby and such a relief from Covid. The house was lovely. Great kitchen with everything you could want. Garden seating very comfortable, we were amazingly lucky to have a week of warm sunshine and spent time in the garden. Our very old greyhound had her last holiday as she wandered happily on the beach. It is a holiday I will remember with great fondness.

We usually hire a cottage and spend most of our time out of it, but this was so comfortable and well furnished that we spent lots of time at 'home'.

  • "The cottage was lovely and clean and very warm, easy to find and a good base for exploring the area."

The only slight negative, we felt the fridge was a little bit small for a cottage that sleeps 8 people and certainly could have done with some oven gloves! Plenty of tea towels which were a bit thin for using as an oven glove. Having said that, we had a lovely time and would definitely go back again.

  • "Nice cottage in a lovely village not as good as my previous Sykes cottage holidays We were very disappointed to find the garden covered in dog poo maybe from the the previous guests I thought it should have been cleaned up during change over, we had to clean it up before we let the children out there and we cleaned up after our dog and the Wifi was bad?"

We are happy that you enjoyed the cottage and it's lovely location. It is of course the responsibilty of guests with pets to clear up after them. It is not an issue the owner has experienced before and he will write a note to guests with dogs to ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities. He will also check the garden when cutting the grass between guests. Wi-fi can be a little intermittent in rural areas but we hope it didn't affect your holiday. Property Owner

  • "Samuels cottage is such a lovely cottage albeit a little bit tired and needing some love to bring it to it’s full potential."

Great sized rooms & kitchen. Enclosed garden and little terrace area with bench. The beds are so comfortable! great utility room with washer dryer. The owner when l spoke to him was lovely very chatty friendly and offering help. The cake left for arrival was very sweet. Lanreath is a sweet village, with local community shop and bar. The chippy van visits on a Thursday -the teenagers enjoyed it!! The locals are very friendly and welcoming. However you do need a car to get about as buses don’t pass through. The bbq needs replacing (the body with no legs perched on a slab really doesn’t count as a bbq), the pool cues are broken, the kitchen cupboards whilst overloaded with glass ware and dining sets don’t fully close or doors are hanging slightly. The fridge also has tendency not to shut properly. The en-suite shower basin floods. There is no hair dryer. Nothing l note is major we had a great holiday and the cottage met our needs.

We are delighted that you had such an enjoyable overall experience at Samuels Cottage. The pool table has cues of various sizes to allow for children and adults, including one which is brand new. The BBQ is a pot style as it is most suitable for the location it is sited. We do not supply a hairdryer for reasons of health and safety and no mention is made of this on our listing. Thank you for taking the time to add your comments which help us to continually improve our service. Property Owner

  • "Great holiday in a lovely well equipped and comfortable house."

David was very helpful both before and during holiday - bringing out a new cot bed for us late on the Saturday evening. Lanreath is a fairly small village but with a shop that stocks everything and whilst there is no longer a pub there is a social club within walking distance which everyone is welcome to attend. Lanreath is also ideally situated to visit many great places within a short distance. Great holiday, would recommend.

  • "Samuel's Cottage proved to be a perfect location for exploring all that is good about the south east of Cornwall."

The cottage was immaculate and extremely well equipped for our party of 4 adults and 3 dogs. Upstairs is particularly comfortable and the beds were excellent for providing a good night's sleep. David was generous enough to leave us a cake in the kitchen to enjoy for lunch and was extremely helpful in the days leading up to our holiday. Looe is such a beautiful place and only 6 odd miles from Lanreath, with great pubs and restaurants. We really loved the quality of the beer/food, atmosphere and service at the Olde Salutation Inn and the Old Sail Loft Restaurant.' The place had a real friendly feel about it and the view of the small boats at high tide from the bridge separating East and West Looe was stunning. Polperro was a little "twee" for the dogs but a lovely place all the same. If you don't mind climbing down (and back up) to a wonderful beach then Lantic Bay gives you the very best that Cornwall has to offer, with a beautiful beach and crystal clear waters. Our favourite spot to take the dogs for a run on the beach was at 'Whitsands Bay' to the East of Looe, with it's 4 miles of wide and spacious sandy beach (though a short climb down from Tregantle is required). Pelynt was handy and just 2 miles from the cottage and had good pubs/social clubs and a couple of supermarkets. The very generous Sunday roast at the Jubilee Inn was too much for me but lovely. Staff near enough everywhere were extremely friendly (if I ignore the barman at Smugglers' Inn in Seaton!! If you like the idea of travelling slightly further afield then Charlestown is a lovely spot with a great harbour, shingle beach, picturesque cottages and a good selection of cosy drinking establishments. It also featured in the recent BBC series 'Poldark'. A perfect break for us and the dogs and a certainty for another visit in the not too distant future. Thank you again David for your hospitality and Sykes Cottages for a great service.

It is well equipped and there is plenty of room. It is located in a pretty friendly village. The local shop is very handy too! Although the only pub is closed and for sale there is a social club which is cheap and again very friendly a short walk away. It is central for a lot of places to see and only 3 odd miles to the beach. But I would recommend that you have transport! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

About the location

LANREATH

Pelynt 2 miles; Looe 5 miles; Polperro 6 miles.

Lanreath is a village in southeast Cornwall, five miles west of Looe. Lanreath is rural in character with a local shop and Post Office as well as a parish church. There are a number of ghost stories associated with Lanreath. The best-known features a ghost in black driving a coach pulled by a headless horse. Nearby Pelynt is home to a parish church, a number of local shops and pubs, especially the Jubilee Inn, which was an original farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century. Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. Polperro is a little further away and is a historic fishing village nestling at the head of a long valley leading down to the sea. With plenty of areas to visit, Lanreath is a quiet, pleasant place offering easy access to the coast, the moors, National Trust properties and Cornwall's famous gardens.
