  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Higher Trowan."

It’s very well equipped and has everything you need. After a long 6hr drive the tea, coffee, biscuits and pint of milk was very welcome and a lovely touch. The cottage was lovely and warm and very clean. Whilst the weather wasn’t good enough for us to sit in the garden the children did enjoy the outside space. We did some lovely walks from the cottage and you can pick up the coastal path quite easily. The scenery in this part of Cornwall is amazing. The only downside for us is that some areas of the cottage are looking rather worn. The wooden floor in particular and is loose in places. I kept catching my socks on the splinter chips. Also, we found it rather difficult to relax in the living space in the evening because the sofa and chairs were so uncomfortable. The leather one is really worn and hate to say it but discoloured with a slightly odd smell. If these areas were addressed we would go back. The beds were comfortable and the location is great.

  • "The cottage was lovely and just right."

The location was great and the cottage well furnished and comfortable. However, when we arrived the place was very cold and no hot water. I found the controls to turn the heating and hot water on but would have expected these to have been on for our arrival. Also, there were no logs for the wood burner and i spoke to the owner and was advised that I should have been offered a starter pack before we arrived. I did not get this and we had to go to a garden centre to buy wood. The owner did resolve thongs the following day and we found a bag of logs and a bottle of wine outside. Both appreciated.

  • "Lovely property and perfect base for St Ives."

Disappointed that there was no firewood available on arrival for our cosy December wood burner plans. Tried to phone contact numbers given but no answer or call back to messages.

  • "Fantastic stay in a beautiful property & in a great location!"

Would highly recommend. Only point to note is the car park is not outside the property so may not be suitable if you need easy accessibility. Otherwise the perfect place for a getaway in a beautiful town.

  • "We were told that we could park outside the property when I phoned as I am on crutches at the moment and when we arrived the parking was 150 yards away."

The waste bin was disgusting and you wasn’t allowed to open most of the windows. There was only a small wardrobe in the property which was full of blankets

  • "Firstly, we had two days of no heating just as the evenings were turning chilly."

Secondly, the advert fails to make clear that the internet costs more than £20 for a one week stay. The freezer had not been defrosted and cleaned and the kitchen bin looked like a health hazard - absolutely dreadful state. It is also a bit penny-pinching to provide only one toilet roll for a one-week stay. There is no information in the property about suggestions of restaurants or parking in town, which can be real challenge. That said, there are many positives to this property - it is well appointed and very peaceful, but a little more of the personal touch would make it so much better.

  • "The cottage was beautiful and the setting was excellent , but considering the amount of money we paid for the two weeks there is a few issues as stated below."

No barbecue as advertised (we did mention this to Helping hands who managed the maintenance , they said they would have a word with the owners) no response. No washing line or clothes rack as the same as other cottages . Lack of wardrobe space (1 small one available in main bedroom) No storage for food in kitchen, Small fridge not big enough for 4 people. Damaged large window frame in bedroom sticking out (which should have been reported ) as it could have been issue with security.

  • "The cottage is beautiful, however, I feel it lacks that personal touch that you often get when doing a UK break."

The bathroom unfortunately wasn’t clean (hair left in plug hole), a lot of cobwebs - appreciate that’s hard given the wood beams etc. Some parts could do with updating, but otherwise - peaceful and remote location.

  • "Lovely cottage, good spot for seeing the sights and beautiful views and sunsets from the garden."

Had a bit of a struggle finding it once in Trowan, property sign is at the back which isn’t very helpful. Arrived for our 3pm check-in as per Sykes, as opening up a couple walk around the corner coming to check all was ok and didn’t realise we were at 3 o clock check in, they nipped in first to which there was some rubbish and bits left by the cleaners which they took. Inside is as expected from the photos and description; beautiful decor, comfortable and clean. Unfortunately, we left out a pack of biscuits with the rush of unpacking, also not much cupboard space. Within the hour there were ants all over our stuff. They were coming up at the back of the sink, I assume cleaners/owners know it’s an issue as there’s ant powder under the sink which once used it was ok for the rest of the week, would of rather known and the powder been down before wasted food. Helpful tips: the bbq has been removed due to Covid (not sure how that will help) which we weren’t told so bought lots of bbq food, messaged and was told somebody would ask and get back to me which they didn’t so ended up having to go to the shop for a disposable once which wasn’t the plan. No washing line or clothes airer; self catering with a washing machine (in fairness it is a dryer too) but with a garden I did expect something to dry the clothes on. Beautiful walk to the coastal path, especially to watch the sunset. All in all we would return and had an amazing time exploring the beautiful sights of Cornwall. ☀️

  • "This cottage is in a great location as it is walking distance to St Ives (45 minutes) along the South West coast path."

The cottage was very comfy and easy to turn the heating up/down which is an important consideration at this time of year (October). The WiFi was excellent. We felt safe and there was a good Covid-19 plan/information with what to do who to contact etc.
