  • "Overall, I would describe this as a comfy cottage however needs some moderising."

As per previous reciews, it is quite dark and the lighting is not great. Bulbs were not working and we had to move things around. The oven sounded like it was going to take off when on and the beds had no mattress protectors on them. Kenigie Manor is a great base, the staff are friendly and the pub food lovely. We will come back here but not in this cottage. Sykes need to feedthis back to the owners as it seems all the reviews are similar and this cottage has the potential to be amazing.

  • "We were worried about staying in the cottage as the reviews from previous visitors were poor."

However, we were very pleasantly surprised and found that it was generally comfortable and in good order. There was loads of hot water, the double bed was very comfortable and clean, and we turned the heaters on in the evenings which made it very warm and cosy and quickly got rid of the damp smells. There were a couple of things that we didn't like... the bins were on view and directly outside the bedroom window which was horrible. Luckily the weather was not hot otherwise the smell would of been very unpleasant. The PAT testing on the electrical appliances was out of date and the cutlery and crockery were dirty. We had to wash everything before we used it. It would help visitors to keep it clean if some dishwashing tablets, cloths and cleaning stuff were made available. We were disappointed that it cost extra to use the pool, and found the food from the bar poor. The cider was delicious though! So all in all we enjoyed our stay as it was a good location to explore the area.

  • "There are many things wrong with this cottage which could be rectified."

Where to start: The smell in the main bedroom of sourness remained all the time, this may have something to do with no mattress protectors on any of the beds and a suspicious stain on the main bedroom mattress with just a loose sheet covering. The main bedroom has no drawers (only a cupboard) no where to put clothes away. The kitchen was unclean and powder mould was sprayed all over one cupboard . The previous reviews about light bulbs and kitchen clock are still true - the kitchen only has one light working and second bedroom and living room also with only half lights working. The TV is tiny. The patio is full of weeds along with the garden, the property is next to the bins which overflow and there was litter in the driveway and in the garden. I have taken photos and sent them to Sykes but have had no satisfactory response (buy some bulbs and batteries). We left a couple of days early as couldn’t cope with the bedroom anymore. For over £1,500 I would expect a lot more. Also, the swimming pool is not free to use as we had assumed, you need need to purchase a permit from reception. Do not stay here until this place has been renovated, sadly we cut our only holiday of the year short and left early glad to be going home.

  • "The site was very family friendly."

The children were safe to go & explore & make friends. The location of Kenegie Manor was great to get to local tourist attractions & towns. Long barn cottage was lovely but was in need of a little TLC. Lights didn’t work, the patio had lots of weeds growing through it & the patio furniture was uncomfortable & rusty.

  • "The property seems ok at the first view but the smell is horrible, we checked in at 5."

30 ,I think they had the time to leave some air inside, to refresh a little bit. The lights worked but just some of them and windows were really dirty, I don't know when have been dusted last time.It s a shame as is a nice property but more attention to the details would be a plus. Positive points for coffee, tea, milk, scones and cream

  • "On first impression the barn looked ok ."

But the smell of damp was a little off putting. We enjoy cooking and when my husband opened the oven door what a shock .he had to buy stuff to clean it . Same with freezer that hadn't been defrosted in ages .the place is a beautiful bungalow but needs about £30.000 spending on it . It has been sadly neglected by the owners . I would love to buy it and do it up . As a management company I thought you would have checked the cleanliness of the property and removed all the dirt for the sake of the risks due to the pandemic . I won't be using Sykes again

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback which we have spoken with the owner about. Since your visit a new housekeeper has been employed, we are so sorry for the issues you encountered and would have liked for you to contact us during your stay to enable us to try and rectify these for you. • "We have booked accommodation with you before and feel that this property really lets your company down."

We understand that due to Covid restrictions we could not get into the cottage until 5.30pm for a deep clean which means that most of the first day of your holiday is lost but being safe and having a clean property is very important even without Covid, so imagine our disappointment when we arrived to very dirty windows and front door, on entry it was very dark because 5 light bulbs were not working, there were cobwebs in corners. The patio outside was full of both dead and live weeds and needed sweeping, the patio furniture was filthy and we had to give it a good clean before we could use it. The drainpipe from the kitchen sink has a hole in it and water pours out, both front and back lawns needed cutting and the garden needed weeding and a good tidy. The TV is very small and we could only get one channel. The shower pressure is very low and we could only get a small amount of water out, the bathroom window will not shut, and the master bedroom window is difficult to put open. We had to report that the fridge was not working and we lost some of our fresh food before we managed to pull the fridge out and check the plug, underneath the floor was very sticky and after a few days we had a terrible smell in the kitchen we tried washing under the fridge and bought air freshener and also reported this, and was told that a electrician would come to look at the fridge and change light bulbs but we could change the bulbs ourselves if we wanted to, we tried doing this but none of the spare bulbs fitted and we tripped all the electric whilst trying so gave up. The electrician came out and as we had managed to get the fridge working he checked it and changed 4 of the 5 bulbs so the kitchen was still very dark as only one light worked, we thought a cleaner was coming out to try and get rid of the smell but no one appeared. The kitchen clock does not work. Most of these things did not bother us and we would not of bothered you as each thing in isolation was not a problem when you put it all together and read on trip advisor that another visitor had similar problems with cleanliness and light bulbs and the owner assured that this would be rectified yet we experienced similar situations. When we contacted the out of office service it was a recording and it took a couple of hours to get a response, it was mentioned that we would be reimbursed for our spoilt food but we have not heard anything or had anyone contact us to make sure everything was sorted. We did not want to have to spend our holiday trying to sort all this stuff out and feel that this property in its present state let’s down your company.

Thank you for your feedback and bringing these points to our attention. We have spoken with the owner who has informed us a new housekeeper has been employed. The drain pipe has since been repaired, and a new TV aerial has been installed. A new shower has been installed and the water pressure has improved. Kenegie Manor are responsible for the up keep of the lawns and patio and had we been notified during your stay we could have tried to have this rectified for you. All bulbs have been replaced. • "The cottage was quite cold, it would have nice to have had more efficient heating."

The kitchen was dark, insufficient lighting, also one of the lights wasn't working, in fact, a lot of the lights had no light bulbs. The cleanliness was average. Wifi would be beneficial. Probably wouldn't stay there again, unless these points were rectified.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We do take this very seriously and have given careful consideration to the points you have raised. We have now replaced all the heaters in the property and the light in question has been repaired. We are also pleased to say that we have a new housekeeper, who is keen to ensure that all our guests experience a high standard of cleanliness in the property. A close eye will be kept on the lightbulbs following your comments. With regard to the WiFi, we understand that Kenegie Manor are in the process of providing WiFi around the site, and we hope to provide this in the future. Notwithstanding, we hope that you enjoyed your time at Long Barn Cottage. Property Owner

  • "Arriving late it was great to find tea, coffee, milk and biscuits left for us."

A bottle of wine and flowers was a lovely addition. Having bar snacks and a mini shop on site was also useful. There was also a pub in Gulval which had a good menu. The cottage had everything you needed and was very warm and comfortable. If the garden had been fully enclosed I would have felt happier about sitting on the patio with the dog. Lots of lovely places to visit nearby and we found the Cornish people exceptionally friendly and helpful.

  • "It's a lovely cottage with lots of extras inside ."

There was a lovely welcome gift on arrival and the cupboards were full of anything you would need for a stay . It's quite roomy and comfortable with good parking out the back with access from the back doors. Previous reviews say there's no phone reception and bad tv reception but we didn't have a problem with either. On one occasion we had to stand outside to make a call but that was the only time. We used it for our base to explore the area and found it comfortable and convenient. It is located on a complex so you are very close to the amenities with the pool and club house a stones throw away. Would recommend to families and singles.

  • "There were a couple of flies in the ointment."

Firstly, here was no contact number for the owners so we couldn't let them know of any problems. Secondly, it stated that there wasn't w-fi at the cottage so we weren't expecting any but the info should also state that there's no mobile phone signal either so that potential customers can make an informed decision as to whether they can risk spending time in a cottage with no contact with the outside world at all. Thirdly, there was a TV but no aerial so the only option was to watch DVDs. Fourthly, the toilet had been slotting into a gap at the foot of the shower unit but there wasn't really room for it, so the addition of a large porcelain toilet roll holder at the side of the loo made it necessary for the user to body swerve around it to use the facilities. My disabled mum found it difficult to use. Finally, although I understand and accept that we were required to vacate the cottage by 10am, we were practically ushered out at 10 o'clock on the dot. As I said, mum is disabled and had rather a bad nights sleep so we were running about half an hour late but I figured there would be a built in buffer of an hour or so just in case of problems but no, the owners were knocking on the door at 10 am precisely. It slightly tainted, what had been; a great holiday.
