  • "We had a great stay at Barn Cottage, which is situated nicely in the Rosalind Peninsula with access to the coast and other places of interest."

The property itself was very comfortable with all the necessary amenities, however the plumbing was a bit of a trial at times.

It was extremely comfortable, well appointed and situated in a fantastic location to explore the Roseland Peninsula. The cottage was very tastefully decorated and we loved the spaciousness that it afforded.

It excelled our expectations in every way. The cottage is in a lovely location. The garden was a delight . The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had all the utensils to make life easy if cooking a meal.

Nice & spacious for our family of 4, very clean throughout, with a well equipped kitchen & cosy in an evening with a lit fire. Would highly recommend staying here.

The cottage was much more spacious than we had anticipated from the photographs. It would be helpful if Sykes included a floorplan in all cottage descriptions.

  • "Wünderschönes Cottage."

wie auf den Bildern. Sehr stiehlvoll dekoriert. Nur einmal um die Ecke und schon beginnt der Public Footpath , über Gatter und Schafswiesen mit Meerblick in 15 Minuten zum Hafen. So schön.!!! Portloe ist ein netter Hafen mit einem schönem Pub. Leckeres Bier. Auch die Muscheln waren sehr gut. Tolle Wanderungen entlang des Coast Paths. !!! Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt!! Beautiful cottage. like in the pictures. Very stylishly decorated. Just around the corner and the public footpath begins, over gates and sheep meadows with sea views to the harbor. So beautiful. Portloe is a nice Haven with a nice pub. Tasty beer. The mussels were also very good. Great walks along the Coast Path. We felt very comfortable!!

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Kitchen a bit tired but well equipped. Only gripe is the shower in the downstairs bathroom. It is not thermostatic controlled and awkward to balance the temperature. If when using the shower and other cold taps are used or Wc flushed it becomes dangerously hot.

Comfortable, spacious, well equipped and superbly furnished as well as being in a lovely setting. We couldn’t find a note in the folders about the cottage’s history which we would have found interesting.

  • "Super holiday home - highly recommended."

Lovely garden, very well-equipped kitchen, peaceful location, roomy and bright living area, cozy wood stove, thoughtful artsy decor, and good wifi to boot. The foldout sofa bed would be better for 1 person rather than 2, but I'm grateful that our family of 6 were able to stay there. We had a brilliant time!

  • "We have just spent a delightful October half term break at Little Barn Cottage."

The welcome tray of tea, coffee, biscuits and wine were lovely to see after a long drive. The property has to be the most well equipped one that I have ever stayed in. For an older property there is even an abundance of electrical sockets, which with modern day gadgetry, is always good to see. My partner and I personally found the Kingsize bed a tad on the hard side, but our older children found the singles and sofa bed very comfortable. Despite the not so clement weather we have had a lovely stay and hopefully one day we will return.

  • "This was our 3rd visit to Little Barn Cottage and, as always, we loved it."

The same cannot be said for Sykes however. They were useless in rearranging the date of our holiday from 2020 to 2021. We ended up contacting the owners direct, who agreed it was fine and only then did Sykes sort it out.

  • "Little Barn Cottage is a lovely 2 bed property in a quiet village."

The kitchen is well equipped, the bedrooms are comfortable and the living area is a relaxing place to sit after a day walking on the SW coast path. The only snag we encountered was finding the switch to turn the power on for the cooker. It had been turned off, and after a long search, we found it hidden behind the pans in the lower cupboard. If it is usual practice to turn the oven power off between guests, the location of the switch should be provided in the blue guest book. The local pub - the Ship in Poltroe, is about a mile away and requires a good set of lungs & legs to negotiate the steep hill on the way back. A torch was thoughtfully provided as street lighting is absent. A welcome pack was waiting for us on arrival, which added a nice touch. All in all, a super place to enjoy Cornwall from.

  • "This was our 1st visit to The Roseland Peninsula and won't be our last."

The cottage exceeded our expectations on all points. It was spacious, well equipped inside & out. The location was ideal. The furthest we ever drove was only 30 mins . 2 days we didn't even move the car but walked from the cottage. The views from the cliff tops were amazing and the birds and butterflies were enjoying the late Sept sun. I saw my 1st clouded yellow butterfly.

  • "Everything in the property had been chosen with thought, care and good taste - from furniture, carpets and general decor to the art work on the walls and kitchen equipment, linen, towels etc."

you know the property is looked after and cared for and that the owners stay there themselves. The welcome note and generous arrival pack were greatly appreciated and Greg willingly came to help us sort the TV, which we could not get to work in conjunction with the Humax machine. this is the sort of property where you feel like inviting your friends to come and share a meal. the outside sitting area / garden were an added bonus with again, very comfortable seating etc. Our only regret was that we could only stay 4 nights - now we have moved on to cottage in Devon ( not Helpful Holidays as not much was available for our dates when we inquired) and the difference is striking - fewer niceties and much more cramped!

About the location

PORTLOE

Truro 12 miles; St. Austell 13 miles; Newquay 20 miles

Often described as 'the jewel in the crown of the Roseland Peninsula', and rightfully so. Portloe is a very pretty, picturesque coastal village well-known for its fishing and walking opportunities. It boasts a delightful harbour with 3 working boats that go out to catch crab and lobster. Portloe was the filming location for a number of different films and TV series in the 20th century including the comedy series 'Wild West', featuring Dawn French and Catherine Tate. It is a small village with not much in terms of amenities, however it does have a very highly-rated food pub as well as a the Lugger Hotel with similarly positive reviews. Portloe proves itself to be a fantastic base for exploring some of Cornwall's most beautiful places. Truro, St. Austell and Newquay are all within easy reach, all with a fantastic choice of amenities and things to do. All three are well worth the visit whilst you're in this part of the country.

Note: Arrival after 4pm.
