  • "Second time staying here, perfect location the only thing that needs to change is TV needs upgrading to HD as couldn’t watch the local news for the weather."

Thank you for your feedback and we are recently aware of the withdrawal of SD signal by BBC and a different set top box will be installed asap to accept HD signals in the future. Property Owner

Loved the location, perfect for day trips. Thank you for a holiday home to remember

  • "Property lacks maintenance and is in urgent need of thorough cleaning."

Would need renovation to make it nice (i.e. similar to the attached neighbour house). The property in the condition as we found it, it is not suitable for renting out as holiday accommodation.

Thank you for your feedback which we will pass to the owner. As you are aware we sent a member of our team to the property straight away and any concerns will be addressed by the owner as necessary. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place to stay with teenagers."

Not really suitable to walk to the beach without a drive, but plenty of lovely beaches nearby.

Thank you for the positive feedback from Curlews and I would like to add that it is possible to walk safely to the local beach without a vehicle through the village of Trecknow if guests wish to avoid parking charges which I understand. I have highlighted this in the visitors guide but will emphasise this for future reference.... Property Owner

  • "Very well equipped cottage with all cleaning products provided and things like kitchen foil and cling film."

We were left some cookies (I assumed as a welcome gift) but these were best before Aug 2021 and we stayed Oct 2021. Very tasty though! Plenty of crockery and cutlery - way more plates than you would ever use! Patio is a nice little sun trap which is enclosed and there are plenty of places around the cottage to hang damp wetsuits/towels etc. Please note that the garden itself is not enclosed and the property is on a fast road (the pictures don’t show this). We managed to use the bins and some spare patio slabs to section off the bottom bit of garden from the road. Would definitely suggest the owners add a gate here to make it much safer for kids and dogs. There is a recycling plant half mile down the road to take all recyclable materials and it would be useful if this was communicated somewhere. We googled it as didn’t want to put in the bin or take it all home with us. Would also be useful to have instructions for the storage heaters as we are only used to central heating. Spacious for 4 people but 6 would be a squeeze if you all wanted to sit in the lounge and watch a film together. The DVD is on the side of the TV as I’ve noticed a previous review said there wasn’t one in the lounge - there is. This cottage represented good value for money for us, but it could be so much better with more care and attention to detail. Things that could easily and quickly be improved are: new thicker curtains throughout, replace missing curtain in downstairs lounge, clean stains from mugs, set clocks to the correct time (none were right), clean dirt and dust from under the storage heaters and skirting. Other suggestions would be to make a cupboard under the stairs for storage rather than it all being piled up and visible. Not great for young kids or dogs. The twin bedroom next to the double bedroom also has a damp issue with the sheets smelling of damp and the wardrobe reeking of it. Luckily as a family of 4 we didn’t need to use this room. The drawers in the kitchen have also been hidden behind a cupboard door with chunks cut out for the hinges (to make it look all matching) which makes opening the drawers very difficult. These just need to be drawers. The downstairs shower had the unit to control the temperature outside of the shower cubicle. This needs moving inside so you can turn on/off and change temperature while in the shower. Being outside also means the shower hose has to go up and over the cubicle and then down to where it is held. This prevents you from moving it down much and it also keeps falling off the holder. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and the inadequacies are reflected in the price.

Thank you for completing your feedback, we have discussed the points raised with the owner who will take on board your comments and suggestions and act accordingly. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very dated in need of deep cleaning and general update."

The living area is not big enough for 6 people. Feels very cramped and claustrophobic. Upstairs bathroom is modern but the toilet is separate on the landing with sliding door and no handbasin. Therefore not easy to wash hands if bathroom is occupied. No privacy or hygiene for users of the toilet. Location is good, near Trebarwith Beach and Tintagel.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback following your stay at Curlews and we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the location. The property is arranged over four levels with separate dining room, lounge and two bathrooms and is exactly as depicted on the listing. The separate toilet is private with obscured glass and is not overlooked. The hand basin in the bathroom is just 2 metres away and readily accessible after toilet use. Curlews is a traditional 100 year old stone cottage and the Owners feel that significant modernisation would detract from its charm. However the kitchen and both bathrooms are modern with new showers, bath and units. The property is cleaned to Covid standards after each stay with fresh linen and towels. Property Owner

  • "Location is great, 25 mins walk to a beautiful beach (make sure to check when the sea is out)."

The house is on a hill top with lovely views. Tintagel is very close for a nice day out, as well as other great locations. Private parking and an additional roadside. The house is set across 3 floors, it's nice to have both the living / diner and a snug downstairs with an electric fire for cold nights, one suggestion would be to put the DVD player downstairs as there are 4 seats. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, blackout or darker curtains may be a good idea to avoid early wake-up. There's a nice bench outside to sit of an evening in the fresh air. The internet connection wasn't great (I completely appreciate a good WIFI connection may be hard to come by in Cornwall) but it did make it hard when trying to book things / planning for the day ahead. The kitchen had everything you could need. Overall a good stay!

  • "We all really enjoyed our visit."

For us the house worked fine, certainly helps you to keep fit. But lack of telephone signals, and poor WiFi, which kept dropping out, did have an impact. But we loved the beach, the area, and the people . Tintagel well worth a visit.

  • "I should start by saying that we had a good break and were very appreciative that the property was easy to find, clean and in an ideal location which made it a bargain."

Décor could benefit from being updated with a little less frugality, we were particularly disappointed that neither fires were real and only one of them was in a working condition. However, the main bedroom had a comfortable bed and the twin rooms were fine for children. I would suggest bringing a couple of throws, board games, books and nature guides as it has beautiful views and these are not available at the property.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. Due to the current pandemic property owners were advised to remove items such as throws, board games and books, of course guests are welcome to take their own items for their visit however in line with our 'Preparing for your holiday' guidelines which are sent to all guests prior to their holiday it was mentioned that such items would have been removed. Our website clearly states that the fire is electric and we do not advertise an open/real fire at this property. Despite the points raised we are pleased you enjoyed your visit. Property Owner

  • "Good location, well equipped, nice garden (which could do with a bit of a tidy."

) However, various parts of the house need attention and updating, for example loose cupboard doors on kitchen cupboards, downstairs shower not in cubicle. Great potential.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. The owner has confirmed that the downstairs shower is in a cubicle. A new kitchen has only recently been fitted. The housekeeper will check all of the cupboard doors. The garden which is a meant to be a wilderness garden, is attended regularly by a gardener. Property Owner

  • "The house was great."

I was worried from the photos that it was a bit old-fashioned but it was better than I expected. 6pm check-in was late and there were no basic supplies but that’s the current situation and the house was very clean. The photo of the garden is very deceptive. It’s not as big as it looks. Nice for sitting out but I thought the kids would have lots of room to play. The double bed was comfy, all the other beds felt like camp beds, which are fine for kids. Great location but hard to find.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Curlews. The garden is a terrace garden in 4 seperate sections which provides a fenced area suitable for pets, an area with a picnic table and 2 lawned areas. The single beds are shown clearly within the photos, 2 are pine and 2 are metal framed, all of which are full size single beds with new mattresses. Despite the points raised we are really pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit. Property Owner

About the location

TINTAGEL

Camelford 5.9 miles; Wadebridge 13 miles.

Tintagel, home of the legendary King Arthur’s Castle, whose ruins dominate the cliffside just outside the village, is a popular but not overcrowded tourist destination. The surrounding area is dominated by the sea, rocky coves and stunning scenery. Several beaches, including nearby Trebarwith Strand and Bossiney Cove, are within easy reach and surfing is the main attraction for those who love the water. Tintagel has several pubs and restaurants and the Old Post Office (National Trust) is a must. For the energetic, the SW Coast Path passes through the village and in both directions it winds its way along the cliffs and down to the water’s edge through dramatic countryside. Head north along the path and in 2.5 miles is the beautiful village of Boscastle with its quaint quay and village pubs for refreshment. Further afield are the surfing meccas of Newquay and Bude, with their resort attractions, while the open spaces of Bodmin Moor, the Eden Project, Padstow, Camel Estuary and Port Isaac are all within a 40-minute drive.
