  • "An absolute gem!"

The owner made us feel very welcome with a lovely welcome pack. The place is finished to a high spec. The feature window in the lounge is spectacular. En-suite in the master bedroom, was a bonus. Light and airy with lots lovely features will make you want to book again. My family absolutely loved the place and we would definitely book again

  • "A great cottage well placed for the nearby Gardens of Heligan, as well as day trips to Truro, Falmouth or Padstow."

The nearby town of Mevagissey is a lovely place to wander around as well. Cottage itself is quiet and peaceful, with spacious beds and a well equipped kitchen.

  • "We had a lovely week in this beautiful cottage."

Perfectly situated for peace and quiet whilst still within easy reach of both coastal and country walks. The village has a shop and a great pub too. The cottage itself was of the highest standard and very well equipped plus the added bonus of a perfectly safe garden for our dog. Absolutely wonderful

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old Workshop."

There was a super welcome tray waiting for us with lots of local goodies. The owners have equipped the accommodation with everything we needed for our stay. We had a Tesco delivery and we’re able to make our breakfasts/evening meals. Parking is tight as it is a 90 degree turn from a single track lane but my husband managed to get our Range Rover Evoque into the short drive & close the gate behind which meant our dog couldn’t escape! We would be happy to stay there again and visited many lovely places including Charlestown, Mevagissey & Portscatho.

  • "A beautifully presented property."

Clean and comfortable situated along a quiet lane surrounded by countryside. Good location for visiting the many attractions this area has to offer. As some other guests have commented, we also found the parking space a little tight due to it's situation on the narrow lane. The weather wasn't very kind to us for our stay, although we still got out and about, however we did think maybe a tv with more choice rather than basic channels would have been useful but this is purely a personal comment. Overall a lovely stay.

  • "The Old Workshop is a lovely property in a beautiful location."

Very quiet and lovely views. All essentials were provided (a few J cloths would've useful for mopping bathrooms and floors etc). It is really convenient for beaches, pub, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey. The garden was ideal with some really interesting shrubs. Enjoyed our stay and would book again if ever I feel we could face the journey on M5 again!

Accommodation felt very homely, clean and tidy. Perfect for the family and our small dog. The village has a small post office and excellent pub for food.

  • "Absolutely superb holiday cottage, in my favourite location."

The garden was great for our little dog. The lounge was comfortable, as were the beds. Great showers, in modern bathrooms. We loved that the cottage is down a narrow single track lane. I’ve seen some complain that the access is tight. I drive a large car, and had no problem parking. The village has a great pub/restaurant, The Wheat Sheaf. We ate there a couple of times, and the food was fantastic. The staff couldn’t do enough for you.

  • "We felt at home the moment we stepped inside the property."

The photographs on the website do not do the Old Workshop justice. It is airy and bright and we found it very comfortable. There was everything that we needed for a great weeks holiday and the welcome pack was much appreciated. Would certainly visit again. Many Thanks, Steve, Lynn and Merlin (our 14 year old Collie who enjoyed it as much as we did).

  • "The Old Workshop is a beautiful place to stay."

It is spotlessly clean and well equipped. The open plan space is sociable but cosy and comfortable at the same time. We used the wood burner for one evening and it gave a lovely warmth to the room. The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage for clothing and belongings too. The garden was great for our little dog with the lovely patio area to sit in. The views of the field beyond can be scene from the gorgeous big window, which acted like a picture frame. We travelled out to lots of places during our stay but it was lovely to come back to our sanctuary at the end of a busy day.

  • "Beautiful bungalow, warm and comfortable."

Good views over fields. Very enjoyable stay in a well appointed property. Only down side is the muddy pot-holed lane approached for 200 metres. And extremely tight car access. Can take 6-8 shuffles to twist into car space due to narrow lane and high banking. But we’ll worth effort if one has rear view cameras and surround beepers.

  • "REVIEW OF THE OLD WORKSHOP, GORRAN, CORNWALL We stayed at The Old Workshop for 7 nights in October 2022 This was our first holiday with our recently adopted rescue dog, so it was a new experience for all of us!"

Our dog is highly reactive to many situations, so we booked The Old Workshop as it was quite secluded and out of the way and it catered for dogs! What a lovely place and a great base from which to explore the St Austell area of Cornwall. Just a short drive to St Austell and to some lovely local beaches it’s in a peaceful, secluded garden with views over towards Gorran and over open countryside. With a secure parking space, it’s only minutes from the main road (up a short unmade, single track, lane) and a 5-minute walk into the village. It’s ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area. The only negative on the parking was that the lane is quite narrow with no real passing places and the gated entrance to the parking space is quite tight. With quite a large SUV, parking was initially tricky, but it did get easier the more we did it. If you continued down the lane past the cottage, then it led to a public footpath out across open fields. We found this an ideal route for some of our dog walks – and well out of the way to help avoid any triggers for her reactivity! The property itself is great. So carefully thought out and beautifully put together, it has everything that the guests could need. We particularly liked all the electric Velux rooflights which made the spaces bright [and were great for added ventilation]. Decorated and furnished in a contemporary style it was clean and tidy. With a large sofa, a comfy armchair and a 4-seater dining table inside, a table and 4 chairs on the small patio outside and a spacious and well-equipped kitchen. We also found that the large cupboard that housed the boiler and the small freezer was an ideal spot for drying out our damp clothing and footwear at the end of each day. The 2 bedrooms (one with an ensuite shower) and the separate bathroom were of a good size and well fitted out and there was ample storage for clothes, shoes etc. The Welcome Pack was a lovely touch. Thanks. Kate and her family were great. Just next door, they allowed us to relax in our own space but were always there, at the end of the phone, when we had any questions or needed any help with anything. If there was one VERY minor niggle, it was that Kate’s family had a dog and, as their house was right behind The Old Workshop when it barked it did, initially, trigger a reaction in our dog. Thankfully she seemed to get less reactive to the barking as our week went on. In summary…..one of the nicest properties we’ve stayed in. No real problems or issues, great attention to detail, clean and tidy and very well equipped and a great – and very helpful – host. Thanks Kate If you want a base to stay in when you’re visiting this part of Cornwall then we would recommend The Old Workshop – Absolutely lovely !

  • "Wonderful property, finished to a high spec, well equipped, super comfortable."

Clean. Would possibly add small dressing table and stool to bedroom, for doing hair and make up, but that's more a personal preference. Great location for exploring the area. Great for walkers, dogs welcome I most places around Cornwall which is a bonus. Would not hesitate to recommend this property.

  • "A beautiful property furnished to a high standard."

Great use of the light and space - love the powered Velux windows throughout. Parking was snug but fine for one medium sized car. Outside tap meant you could rinse beach wear. Great proximity to Gorran Stores and had one of my favourite meals ever at the Barley Sheaf. Loved that you could walk to Gorran Haven (and Cake Breads). Only complaint was that the Wi-Fi didn't work. Could connect to the network but no internet connection. The pack of cards allowed us to digitally detox the kids though! Fantastic property we'd happily return to

The quiet, the views, the location - all perfect! We did have a problem with the light in the bathroom as in we couldn't find the light switch - obviously we did find it but noticed that the automated coming on of the light was a little temperamental but it may be that we are just not used to it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Facilities were good and had everything we needed. For some people maybe a few things for the beach wouldn’t go amiss. We were warned about the Wi-Fi, however it worked perfectly for us. When broke the hob it was swapped out that day. Altogether the best self catering place we’ve ever stayed in

  • "We were the first visitors to stay at The Old Workshop and what a gem it was."

We were greeted by Katie the owner who was friendly and helpful. On arrival there was a welcome cream tea. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and has everything you need. The bathrooms are lovely and beds comfortable. The open plan living area is well designed - you cannot fault this cottage. The cottage has a lovely wood burner ready to go but we had good weather so we didn’t use it. Outside there is a beautiful garden with table and chairs for Alfresco dining with views to surrounding countryside - not overlooked which is a bonus. The location of the cottage was perfect - we did several walks from the cottage through woods with carpets of blue bells - magical. Walked to Portmellon and had a drink at the local pub before walking back. So many top quality attractions nearby. Our favourites were Lost Gardens of Helligan, Pinetum Gardens, Caerhayes and Charlestown. The 5 minute walk to the village post office /shop is very handy and staff very friendly and helpful. So happy we booked this cottage and will definitely visit again. 10 out of 10 from the four of us who stayed. Thank you to the owners Katie and Paul.
