Bedrooms are lovely, good to have two doubles en suite as well as the twin room. Boot room and downstairs bathroom very useful. Well equipped kitchen. It was all lovely and comfortable. And we could connect our phones to the TV so listen to music! Thank you

  • "Spotlessly clean."

Loved how the lamps and heating was on when we arrived, made us feel so welcome. Had a problem with the Esse beeping when we got there that the instructions didn't explain properly how to stop. After making a call to the housekeeper we discovered the fuse box and turned the Esse off. That sorted the problem out but it was a bit of a stressful hour. However, that was the only small issue, we had a great stay and will book with Sykes again.

  • "Very disappointed in this property, in particular the cleanliness."

It was full of spiders webs full of dead flies, filthy drawers and dirty utensils covered in hair and fluff in the kitchen drawer, dead flies in mugs. A damp mouldy smell in the cupboard where the glasses are kept. Lastly on removing the bedding on the last day the mattress and duvet were filthy. Covered in stains and dirt of what origins I do not want to imagine. I felt horrified and violated that we had slept in a bed in such a filthy state. If I had realised at the beginning of the holiday I can honestly say we would have come home. I took photos and sent them to Sykes, as yet so am waiting for a response regarding this. I’m disappointed in Sykes as I always use them to book holidays but will reconsider in future. Especially if a satisfactory response is not received. I’m not usually someone that complains but I definitely feel this is more than warranted.

Thank you for your feedback. It is much appreciated. We are so very sorry to hear that your stay was not up to our usual standard. Please rest assured that I shall speak to the housekeeping team regarding your comments and have this situation rectified immediately. The team pride themselves on their cleanliness, so I cannot understand how this has happened. We have purchased new mattresses/ protectors. Property Owner

  • "A beautiful cottage set in an amazing location to visit the South of Cornwall."

Did find it slightly difficult to find initially and there is really only parking for two cars. The property was clean and tidy and had comfortable beds and sofas, a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. There is a TV downstairs and one in each of the bedrooms, and plenty of storage place. The utility room has a toilet and shower with plenty of room for coats/ shoes etc, and to dry the dog.(crate/blankets and bowls supplied). The kitchen had most things you'd need for a short stay (Although the tin opener was useless) the new Esse cooker was simple to use and there is also a combi microwave. We did find some mould on a ceramic baking dish. It would've been nice to have had salt, pepper (basics) and tin foil/cling film and kitchen towel. The garden is great, so many hidden areas to it with fruit trees and some herbs. There are three sitting areas, a bench/table near the house, a small table/chairs near the lawn and a bigger terrace with a corner garden sofa and loungers. It would've been nice to have a broom/brush and dustpan, cloth/kitchen cleaner and more toilet rolls. I also couldn't see how to recycle bottles/cans/plastics and kitchen waste. Because the rubbish bin was in front of the neighbours most of the week, it wasn't clear it was Clahar's, and had a couple of black bags ripped open. We did loose hot water one day, but after a phone call it was promptly resolved within about an hour. The shower in the bedroom does leak quite a bit from the outlet which passes through the wall to the hose (Although it did not affect the use of the shower). Other visitors said they had a bottle of fizz and a doggy biscuit, that would've been lovely, although we were left bread, butter, milk, tea and coffee, a nice surprise. These were minor, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you so much for your comprehensive feedback - really appreciate it. Apologies for the lack of fizz and doggie biscuits. The lady who makes the biscuits had not managed to keep up to supply. I have also passed on your comments to the housekeeping team. Best wishes. Andrea Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately our holiday was ruined by a number of things."

    1. The heating going off, therefore being cold, 2. Unable to keep the fire burning, so very cold for the first few days, 3. Waiting for the ESSO oven to heat up and finally 4. My mum falling down the new wooden stairs!!!! This was reported to Sykes and the owner but nothing has been done about it. This led us to leave a day early.

Sorry to hear about these issues. We understand that nothing was highlighted to either my manager nor Sykes during your stay, so we were not given the opportunity to assist you to make your visit better. Property Owner

What a beautiful thatched cottage! The location was perfect, just a couple of minutes walk to the centre of Mullion, plenty of walks from the door and easy access to explore the Lizard peninsula. The cottage was a pleasure to stay in, with the wonderful quirks of a very old cottage combined with comfy beds, a great shower and everything we needed was provided. The dogs loved pottering around the garden with its many different areas to explore and so did we! This was a fantastic cottage and we will definitely be back!

  • "We stayed at Clahar cottage last year as well as this year and love the location of this property, the local village and the beautiful gardens at the cottage."

The downstairs shower room still smells damp and has mould on the walls which may be unavoidable given the age of the cottage. We note that the property is to undergo changes next year which we hope will not affect the integrity of the property. I am not sure about open tread staircase or a hot tub which I hope will not ruin the beautiful gardens , picture perfect look of the cottage or the upper patio area. It is a shame that these changes have also increased the price next year which may mean that we cannot return. We obviously hope this will not be true as it is a special birthday for me next year!!

Thank you for your feedback. To reassure you a little - as this is a listed property - all the future proposed changes have been carefully assessed by English Heritage so as not to spoil the integrity of our lovely cottage. The new staircase will allow more light into the kitchen. You will also be relieved to hear that the hot tub is not now going ahead. As regards the mould you mention, I have reminded the housekeepers to address any visible mould at every changeover, as this is not to our usual high standards. I do hope you will be able to return next year to approve our upgrades. Property Owner

Loved the quirkiness of such an old property, but had been modernized in all right places. It needs a few more glasses, and the kettle closer to the fridge (I always seemed to be going back and forth around the table with a part made cup of tea!). Really hope you look to-do something with the outside seating area too (behind the main garden). It's a big sun trap, but a pergola or umbrella would have had us out there for longer :o). Would come back at any time if you would have us! Thanks Ciarán

Thank you Ciaran for your feedback. We really appreciate your comments and are very glad you enjoyed your stay. I shall order in more glasses! We do have plans for both the outside seating area as well as for the inside of the cottage - work starts in January 2023. The kitchen space is to be improved, having an open tread staircase and removal of the understairs cupboard. The opening from the lounge to the kitchen will be widened. The master bedroom will have an ensuite. All very exciting! Property Owner

It was extremely comfortable, warm and cozy. The dogs were easy to manage because of the layout and the garden was a dream. Mullion village and the surrounding area was a big hit with us. Our main issue was recycling - if the holiday let waste collection does not manage it, an explanation and some pointers for those staying to local recycling points would be useful. We also found the checkout time of 9am a bit draconian - we had a long journey but an extra hour would have been helpful

The lounge furniture was very badly stained, we had brought a load of throws with us because we have dogs, we covered all the furniture before using. The main shower was fantastic but the bath in one of the bedrooms had a very bad damp smell so we didn't use. The garden was beautiful. We used the log burner every night, it was so nice to relax every evening after a wonderful day exploring with the dogs. We would recommend this grade II listed cottage to everyone and we will look to return in the future.

  • "A quirky, nice comfortable cottage within easy striking distance of numerous coastal walks."

Lovely cottage garden and it was great to have it totally enclosed for peace of mind regarding our two small dogs. A couple of minor points: * need a soft broom and brush * we couldn’t leave a comment as the comment book was full. * a number of lights were out but no spares were to be found * despite the reference in the guidance book there was no kindling or firefighters nor matches to light the log burner * a torch would have been helpful particularly as the lane is very dark * the instruction advises to refer to the ESSI cooker but we couldn’t find it These are small points which did not detract from a great winter walking break.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Most helpful. We have our electrician booked in to replace a couple of light fittings as they seems to be faulty but we have also asked the housekeeper to check all bulbs. There are torches in the drawers upstairs - though understand the lane is dark in February, so will arrange for another for the kitchen. The ESSE instructions are located at the back of the welcome pack but perhaps we should make them more prominent. Not sure why there were no firelighters etc as there are usually some left. Will investigate. So glad you enjoyed those blustery coastal walks! Property Owner

Location amazing. Cleanliness not so good. Cobwebs, dead flies, dog hair on floors and over all lounge cushions/blankets and black mould around all windows. This property is clearly rushed when being cleaned. Had to make numerous phone calls to report this and to ask for bin liners, toilet roll, dishwasher tablets and kindling. All missing items eventually provided except kindling which they ‘don’t provide’ even though it is stated in their welcome book that they do and they provide logs, matches and fire lighters…Bizarre! Cleaning issues ignored. All I can say is I’m glad I wasn’t paying summer prices!! I would of been fuming. Maybe they clean more thoroughly for higher paying guests… Who knows? No excuse in Covid ‘deep cleaning’ times that’s for sure.

The interior has been done is such a tasteful way to maintain the history of the building but also offer modern facilities. The garden is a great haven with plenty of seating dotted around to hide in! We enjoyed many walks both from the cottage or within a short drive and our dogs have just loved it! My only very very very small niggles are the lack of a hoover/good brush and some cleaning products as when you are in and out from walks with dogs the boot room got really mucky and I would like to have left it cleaner. A word of warning if you are tall like my husband - walk around with a stoop as he bashed his head on the back door more than once and the low beam in the kitchen near the kettle. You think he’d have learnt the first time but it seemed to knock all his sense out of him!!!!! The steps to the first floor are also narrow in depth and thus steeper which some may struggle with. However these are just things you have to accept in an old listed building and become conscious of during your stay. I hope to return to Clahar again. It was so nice to be able to be in a rural quiet location but also within walking distance to food shops and pubs which meant we hardly had to drive. I highly recommend you try Clahar for yourself, you won’t regret it!

From the moment we stepped through the door we felt at home and it had everything we could possibly need, plus and more besides. The house was spotlessly clean, and a vase of roses, milk, biscuits, bread and butter were waiting for us along with some logs and kindling to get the log burner started. The cottage is in a fabulous location, we walked to most places (pubs, beaches, village shop, restaurants etc). I would highly recommend it, and we will rebook to stay again. Tip for anyone who uses the smart TV's in the house: delete your Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts when you leave! Some of the TV's had 3 separate accounts save to it, meaning we could have bought movies etc using someone else's account. Obviously we didn't do this, but some people may not be as honest as us. We were amazed that previous tenants had left themselves open to this happening to them. We took our Fire TV stick with us and accessed our Prime/Netflix/iPlayer accounts etc via that, which is by far the safer option. One other small thing to note: The dishwasher is very loud. I'm not sure if that's normal, maybe it is just a very noisy machine, but I have never had one that is as loud as that so might be worth the housekeeper checking it is working ok, just to be safe.

Luckily we didn’t want to use oven immediately because it took a while to get up to temperature. There was only one teaspoon that we could find so boiled eggs for breakfast was a challenge! I’m a housekeeper for Landmark Trust and have to say there were a lot of long-standing cobwebs around the cottage! Also mould around kitchen window which to my mind should be wiped clean at every changeover. However, it’s a fabulous cottage and gorgeous garden and once heating kicked in and woodburner lit, very cosy. Don’t think there is space for more than 2 cars parking

Thank you Anne for your recent feedback - we appreciate it. We are sorry to hear that the cottage was cold on your arrival and can only apologise. Towards the end of December, we had a new central heating system and ESSE range installed. Whilst there is a Slumber setting on the ESSE - which we had assumed would be adequate to heat the kitchen - we now realise that the ovens must be turned on as well. I have passed on revised instructions to the housekeepers and they will also ensure that they increase the temperature on the central heating thermostat as soon as they arrive so that the cottage is ambient on guest arrival. The mould you mention has clearly formed due to the issue with inadequate heating and has never been a problem before. Your comments regarding cobwebs have been noted also. We do hope this was not too detrimental to your holiday. Property Owner

It was comfy and well equipped too. You can see the garden will be lovely in a warmer season and the kids loved the lambs in the field next door. I have been coming to the Lizard every year since I was a baby with our family and it was brilliant to walk and see what it is like in the winter for the first time - just as beautiful and wild as every other season we come! Just to let you know that the hot water turns off at about 8am which puzzled us on the first day when trying to shower. In the guest info it says it is constant as it's a combi boiler. The hot water has just been put on a funny timer and you have to press the thermostat, go into the menu and manually boost it. This was fine when we figured it out, but may confuse other guests as well at first! Thanks for the holiday :-)

Thank you Paddy for your recent feedback. It is always useful to hear when guests have had issues with aspects of the facilities and we can only apologise. Our new central heating system was fitted towards the end of December and it appears that the hot water setting was incorrect. We will adjust the timings so future guest do not have this problem and really appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your winter experience - the Lizard is such a beautiful place in all seasons and you've been very lucky to enjoy it every year! Property Owner

We found the bedrooms to be large and comfortable, as was the lounge and the kitchen/dining area - managing to cater for the needs of 6 adults and 2 dogs. We found the cottage well equipped and comfortable. The only negatives was the Rayburn oven never got up to temperature and spoiled a few meals and also the size of the bathroom sinks were far too small.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are very sorry that the fault with the Rayburn affected your stay. Unfortunately, rectifying the problem immediately proved impossible as the work required took 4 hours to complete and would need to be switched off the previous night. As the Rayburn also provides central heating, this was clearly not feasible. As there is an additional oven provided, albeit a small one, we had hoped this would be acceptable in the interim and also provided vouchers for the local eatery. In light of this issue however, we are now installing a double wall oven with grill so such an inconvenience cannot occur again. We also note your comment on the size of the basins and will assess this also - notwithstanding acknowledgement of the age of the cottage and the restrictions this imposes. With the aforementioned modifications, we do hope to welcome you as guests in the future. Property Owner

Inside the cottage has a modern feel without losing the old cottage charm. There are lots of places to visit within a short distance and lots of beautiful beaches, some of which are unfortunately not dog friendly. We walked the coastal path from The Lizard to Mullion stopping at Kynance Cove for lunch, the scenery here is stunning and well worth a visit even if you don't want to walk all the way. We also enjoyed visits to Caverack, Cadgwith, Helford, Porthleven and Mousehole, all are well worth visiting. We would recommend The Old Inn in Mullion for evening meals and if you feel like driving out the Hazelphron is a nice change with a very good and delicious menu, if you wish to take your dog and sit in the bar area booking is recommended. The property

This Grade II listed cottage, complete with a traditional thatched roof, rests on the edge of the delightful village of Mullion, the largest on The Lizard.

In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Clahar Cottage is an endearing base for a family looking to explore a part of Cornwall immersed with picturesque fishing ports, long stretches of sandy beaches and some of the country's finest scenery.

Upon entering the whitewashed cottage, you are welcomed into the contemporary interior with delightful farmhouse touches.

Prepare delicious home-cooked meals within the kitchen to enjoy together around the dining table, where a striking ESSE cooker takes centre stage.

After dinner, step into the sitting room where you can curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea in hand to catch up on TV, whilst the woodburning stove fills the room with warmth during those chilly winter evenings.

As the evening draws to a close, venture up the staircase to retire to one of the three stylish king-size bedrooms, one having a cosy en-suite where you can look forward to enjoying a warming soak in the roll top bath.

There is the option to convert one of the bedrooms into a twin if required. During the warmer months, you can look forward to spending time within the garden area, where you can soak up the sun with a refreshing beverage whilst enjoying the tranquil surroundings.
