A little piece of heaven. So clean. Simon and Judy are fabulous hosts The gardens are just perfect so many places to explore. We didn’t want to leave. The name of the property is most appropriate I feel completely restored and ready to face the world again .

We had everything we needed and our hosts were very welcoming, friendly & helpful. The apartment was extremely comfortable & beautifully decorated and the grounds & gardens were beautiful & great to explore. The location was great to explore south Devon (& some of Cornwall) from. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here.

If you are looking for a chilled and relaxing holiday and like walking and exploring the area this is a great place to stay. There is also a rail link to Gunnerslake in Cornwall, and south to Plymouth. Simon and Judy are the perfect hosts and very helpful.

  • "What an amazing place and hosts!"

If you want comfort, quiet, peaceful, beautiful surroundings with sounds of nature - this is the place to go. It is a great place to visit some wonderful Devonshire and Cornish locations but if you want to stay put and just chill out - the gardens (approximately 2.5 acres) provide two private patios just for the visitor, but then if you are happy to explore the gardens and share a place with your hosts, Simon and Judy, then there are lots of nooks and crannies to be explored and enjoyed. The property itself is a clean, well equipped, comfortably furnished studio apartment with lovely views of the surrounding garden and large veluxes which provide natural sunlight all day long. It is a place where if you do want just to stay and relax all of your visit, you'd feel comfortable doing so. If you want to explore the areas you would obviously need a car for some locations but there is a train service that runs to Bere Ferrers and to Plymouth which is just three-quarters of a mile away. Also there's a bus service out of Bere Alston. There are lots of brochures for places of interest in the apartment. The welcome we received from Simon and Judy was more like 'old friends' meeting up again - they are very hospitable, interesting and genuine folk and we loved our stay with them. They provided a Welcome Pack which was very unexpected but most welcome as whilst we had taken some necessities, this package kept us going for a couple of days whilst we rested from our journey down from the Midlands. We definitely recommend this lovely property and would like to return again some time.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Robins Rest and received a lovely warm welcome from Judy in the amazing gardens."

The studio apartment was more than we had expected and the welcome goodies and flowers in the room was a nice touch. Once unpacked we explored the grounds walking along the babbling stream which passes through the grounds and found many seating areas to sit and reflect. Simon was a wealth of information about areas to explore in Devon. This holiday accommodation was 5* with everything we needed. Thank you once again Judy and Simon would certainly recommend your idyllic property.

The surroundings are a paradise for gardeners, nature lovers & romantics alike. The apartment is compact but beautifully appointed with 2 private patios on which to chill & listen to the music of the stream as it descends to the moor below.

Simon and Judy were the perfect hosts with plenty of local knowledge to share, nothing was too much trouble. Ideally situated for exploring the area, from the moor to the coast with a wealth of NT properties, the Drake Trail and the Tamar to visit or just relax in the gardens with a glass or two from the local brewery or vineyard. A personal thank you to Simon and Judy, we enjoyed our stay very much and definately recommend for an amazingly relaxing break. All the best, Debbie and Andy ☺

About the location

BERE ALSTON

Tavistock 6 miles; Plymouth 12 miles.

Bere Alston is a small Devon village in a beautiful location between the rivers Tavy and Tamar, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village was once a thriving port shipping tin from Dartmoor. Just upstream from Bere Alston on the river Tamar is Morwellam Quay, a tiny harbour where half the world’s copper travelled through in the 1860s, and which is now a popular visitor attraction telling the story of copper mining through history. Trains run between Bere Alston and Plymouth, on the picturesque Tamar Valley line, following the river for much of the route. Bere Alston has a village shop and pub and there are plenty of stunning countryside walks. Two National Trust properties in the area are Cotehele, a Tudor manor house and glorious gardens stretching down to the river Tamar and Buckland Abbey, an estate on the river Tavy with craft workshops and family attractions.
