    Mrs Cowburn

“The holiday was spoiled by the cottage being filled with an overwhelming smell of kerosene and although the boiler problem was fixed when we reported it to Sykes the smell could well take weeks to abate because the fuel is soaked into carpeting in the garage and coming through to the lounge and master bedroom via the chimneybreast.”

Sadly this drove us to stay away from the cottage each day and we were unable to self-cater as planned. The summerhouse is in a state of total disrepair and is unusable. Luckily the weather was good enough to sit outside and the patio furniture was very nice and the garden and view was lovely. Sadly this drove us to stay away from the cottage each day and we were unable to self-cater as planned. The summerhouse is in a state of total disrepair and is unusable. Luckily the weather was good enough to sit outside and the patio furniture was very nice and the garden and view was lovely. If you use the bath you will get a drip through the ceiling from where the pipework runs across to the discharge. In general the cottage, which is nice and has potential, is not accurately presented in the photographs or descriptions. Rooms that look bright and sizeable are in fact dingy and small, and the shower is so small that you can't turn around in it. The owners require you to take recycling into Wadebridge and do not have a brown recycling bin which is what all the other residents of Burlawn put out for collection while we were staying.

When we returned to the property to investigate the boiler odour complaint the same day, we did not find any bad smells and would imagine this to have subsided shortly after it was reported and fixed all on the same day. The bath is fully functional and in working order. There was a minor drip from the cistern of the toilet which we had not been informed about. If we had known of this issue, we would contacted a plumber and got this fixed immediately which was less than a 5 minute job to fix. The rooms are represented accurately on the website from the pictures and are a true reflection of the property's light and size. We have tried offering recycling options for the property but this has not been taken up by the majority of guests so recycling options at the cottage is an unfeasible option. - Sykes owner relations

Then it’s up one step into the magnificent dining room, with white beamed cottage ceiling, the original slate floors and a cast iron decorative range. Outside, the garage acts as a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. A good sized garden with a pretty summerhouse and a selection of furniture provides the ideal opportunity to take in the stunning forest and countryside views, a wonderful peaceful place to relax at any time of day.
