  • "Pandia is a beautiful holiday cottage."

It is well maintained, beautifully clean and equipped with everything necessary for a pleasurable stay. The welcome pack and provision of basics was very generous. The beautiful open fireplace really made our evenings so snug and cosy. The beds are very comfy too. The grounds are beautiful and full of wildlife. We loved watching the birds and especially the woodpeckers. Even in early January there were Camellias and daffodils to enjoy. Our three little dogs enjoyed themselves too, although the garden is vast and not enclosed so an eye needed to be kept on the dogs at all times. Blankets and old towels were provided for the dogs which was extremely helpful. Geraldine made us very welcome and ensured we had a comfortable stay. Everything about Pandia shows how thoughtfully it has been curated for the enjoyment of guests. We loved our stay and hope to return.

Absolutely delighted you had such a super time in the midst of winter! Thank you for your kind remarks about the curation of Pandia, too - it is lovely to get such warm feedback. Yes dogs love the place - so much to discover! And the bird feeder indeed attracts very charming birds. Just want to add that many visitors overlook Cornwall in winter, yet this can be a marvellous time to come. The beaches are empty or nearly empty, the coast paths are yours to enjoy, the wild moors are a joy, and touristy places like grand houses etc are wonderful without the crowds. Often the weather is very balmy (perhaps book at short notice after checking the mid-range weather forecast)? Even a light drizzle and rain has its own charm - it rarely lingers. Property Owner

  • "The only negative is that it was a bit too far away to get to any shops to buy food (approx 25 mins) and all through very narrow country lanes to get onto the main A30 dual carriageway."

Bodmin was nearest but this was central point to head to north or south coast.

Thank you for giving us 100% in your rating. Like many places you reach Warleggan through narrow lanes, glorious in summer with flowers and wild strawberries. To reach the A30 you can avoid the narrow lanes completely by driving out of Warleggan to reach the moor, a matter of less than half a mile, using a fairly wide road, then it is open moor all the way. Yes you need to bring your food with you, but we offer a lovely welcome pack for visitors to relax with when they arrive (in case you need to go out again to shop). Property Owner

It was an amazing and lovely place. The house and gardens were spotless and loved exploring the grounds. The church at the back of Pandia 'St. Barthomlew's Church' and churchyard were lovely and nice to explore and had a lovely walk around the village, up to the village of Mount and back to Pandia. Lovely and peaceful area. Would definitely recommend and would definitely love to visit and stay again.

So pleased you loved your stay, and it is a great idea to create your own walks, too. St Bartholomew's Church is indeed a charming small church, set on a round Celtic graveyard full of flowers in spring. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time at Pandia."

Geraldine welcomed us, she was very helpful and described the gardens around us, Although the garden was not fenced our 3 dogs had the time of their life exploring the grounds. Pandia is set in the most peaceful and relaxing surroundings the silence only broken with birdsong. We were blessed with the best of English weather too.

We are so pleased that you and your doggy friends had such a fine time exploring the peaceful gardens. And yes, birds love the place. Today we saw green woodpeckers, greater spotted woodpeckers, goldfinches, robins, blackbirds, and heard the tawny owl – all of whom nest in the grounds. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very comfortable and clean and in the most beautiful peaceful location."

The gardens are wonderful for both humans and dogs. We loved watching all the birds visiting the feeders. Geraldine the caretaker is first-rate, she’s very responsive to any queries and is so helpful, cheerful and friendly. Although the cottage is in quite an isolated hamlet, it’s easy to reach the A30 for trips out, the only obstacle were the free-roaming cows who loved to stand in the road! Two drawbacks - minor ones - there is a very limited amount of walks from the cottage, maps show footpaths that we either couldn’t find or were very overgrown and impassable. And it’s a shame that the rear of the cottage isn’t as picturesque as the front, at the back of the cottage there’s a mound of rubble and earth which is hazardous.

We are so pleased you find the cottage clean and comfortable and love the gardens. And we love our central position making it easy to reach many gorgeous places in Cornwall. Thanks for the 100% you gave us. We are very happy to advise on great walks from Pandia where you can walk freely – along quiet roads and tracks, down into the wooded valleys, across the moors – you do not need to follow footpaths. There are so many tantalising possibilities. We have developed specific information on three local walks and only one could be too overgrown in mid-summer but the others should be fine. We need to rebuild the shed behind Pandia. No work is being carried out when visitors are present. We have fenced off the works and believe no part of the site to be hazardous. Property Owner

Would benefit from having an enclosed garden area (if possible).

Delighted you found Pandia clean and comfy. The garden area is demarcated by shrubs around the private lawn. We encourage guests to walk around the full three acres gardens and woodland surrounding Pandia. These are full of many varieties of daffodils in spring - including some varieties that have lived here since the 1870s at least, to be followed by bluebells and other flowers, rhododendrons and camellias, mingled through beech. Thank you for your kind feedback and we love it when people come back for more! About lighting, we will think about this as this is the second comment we have received. The main issue is that the stars at night are so wonderful. We love our "dark sky" status and being in nature the way nature planned it - and indeed when it is dark it is very dark! • "A lovely, quiet place and as previous reviews have mentioned - great for dogs."

All that we wanted ... Unfortunately, as is the way with dog owners, there are always some who are irresponsible and let their dogs roam around the property leaving their poo everywhere. One other client on this site had three dogs and let them do whatever they wanted wherever they wanted and sadly it was in our garden area !

Dear Mrs Hemingway. We are so pleased you loved the property and that it was "all that you wanted". I am currently not on the property due to travel restrictions, but it really surprised me to learn that another visitor did not manage their dogs appropriately. This has never happened before - the occasional poo gets missed but I have not experienced such behaviour. It is also incredibly unusual for any other visitors to allow their dogs into the private space around Pandia. Again, I am unfamiliar with such crass behaviour. I am really sorry and do apologize. It is a pity, though, you did not inform the onsite caretaker, Geraldine, as she would have had a word with the other visitors to make sure this did not happen. I kindly request anyone else staying at Pandia to share absolutely any concerns, doggy or otherwise, rightaway with Geraldine, as between us we are pretty good at sorting things out. Finally, I want to inform anyone reading this review that we have one apartment in the old rectory open to couples or single people. There is a lot of space - three hectares of beechwood, lawn and gardens, so usually visitors do not come across each other. And, as I say above, most visitors to the other property are just amazingly wonderful and considerate. In any case, it seems like you had a good time apart from this, so that is very pleasing. Thank you for letting us know. Property Owner

It is quite spacious, not super modern but has a great open fire with a limitless supply of coal and wood. Geraldine the caretaker is very helpful. Generally the cottage is very well heated though there was a slight problem at the start with the bedroom heaters being set too low but Sykes rectified this with the owners who live in Germany and who control it from there. The kitchen is generally well equipped but needs more cutlery, only five of everything is bonkers and it needs another frying pan..My partner complained that all the knives are blunt. The main problem was that the Wi-Fi gave out half way through which coupled with the fact that we could not get a signal on our phones was a problem. We were not expecting fast broadband just a slow signal. The cottage is more or less on the Moor and we spent most of our time walking on it. Overall it's a lovely place to stay

Thank you for your kind review (which you have also posted through TripAdvisor). We are so glad you love the spaciousness of Pandia and the open fire, and also enjoyed meeting our lovely caretaker. Regarding WiFi, we are sorry that this was an issue during your stay and beyond our control. Fortunately BT were able to put it right and since then it has functioned perfectly. We do not control the heaters from Germany, they are very new and we have had to learn how to manage them. We programmed them to provide heat from 5 am onwards and up to midnight. We have now upped the settings based on your feedback. Great to know you made good use of the well-equipped kitchen, we do our best to provide a lot of kitchenware for cooking enthusiasts. It is great to know you spent a lot of time walking locally. The house is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, just off the moor. About the location

BODMIN MOOR

Bodmin 7 miles; Launceston 14 miles

The vast and rugged Bodmin Moor, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, forms over 150 square miles of striking, rocky landscape, with much of it declared a Site of Specific Scientific Importance. This ancient location is home to mystical standing stones, old buildings dating from medieval times and thousands of years’ worth of tin mining heritage. There are plenty of beautiful walks to discover, with challenging climbs up some of the tallest spots in Cornwall, offering fantastic far-reaching views towards both the north and south coast on fine days. The nearby town of Launceston, fondly thought of as the Gateway to Cornwall, can be found to the north east, with beautiful Georgian buildings set around its central square, and romantic ruins of a Norman castle at the outskirts. In the other direction, the historic town of Bodmin lies to the south west, with a host of exciting attractions including its Courtroom Experience, the Bodmin Jail, the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, or a trip to see each of the seven holy wells, which lie dotted around the town. Ancient Jamaica Inn, which lies in the heart of the moor, brims with smuggling and pirate history; almost 300 years old, it's celebrated in Daphne du Maurier’s popular novel and is well worth a visit. With much to see and do, and stunning scenery all around, Bodmin Moor is a delightful destination for your holiday.
