  • "Another great visit to kittiwake and lovely as always."

Everything you could require. Just one addition that would enhance experience would be to add an outside shower head/ hose on the outside tap to rinse down boards and wetsuits. Perfect quiet position just off the coastal path and round corner from a few eating places and 2 lovely beaches. We will be back.

Hi Ian, thank you for the feedback. There is an outside tap available at the side of the property. However, we are hoping to improve upon that and install a shower (including a flexible hose and head). Hopefully, this will be in place before your next visit. We are pleased to hear that you enjoy your visits to Kittiwake and we will continue to try to make the property as comfortable and as welcoming as we can. Regards, Steve and Caroline Property Owner

  • "Great location overlooking Crantock beach and an enjoyable stay, but just a couple of points where I think improvements could be made."

    1. The property allows dogs, and this was evidenced when the vacuum cleaner was used. I'm not sure if the owners need to allow pets in a premium location such as this as demand would be high anyway! 2. I can't help feeling that a "trick is being missed" here. The fantastic sea view has been lost because the hedge has been allowed to grow too high, meaning the view can't be enjoyed when sitting down (This is after all, "The Money Shot" and was discussed with the property manager Tracey and the gardener Ian during our stay). At the very least the hedge should be maintained at no higher than the top of the fence line, but a better solution would be to install decking to the garden area complete with modern glass balustrading along the hedge line which would allow for the amazing views to be enjoyed whilst still providing safety for occupants. If that were to happen and the hedge height maintained slightly below the glass height, then the views could be truly fantastic from both inside and outside the property. Please note, these comments are intended to be interpreted as constructive criticism and are made in the interests of improving people's experiences when staying here.

We love everything about it. It’s always beautifully clean and well maintained and has everything we need for a perfect holiday. It’s clearly a much loved holiday home for the owners and the property manager obviously takes great pride in making sure guests are happy and comfortable and I think this is what makes the place so special. Thank you for another lovely holiday.

  • "Fantastic stay at Kittiwake, spotlessly clean and welcoming and everything we needed and a lovely view."

We have visited the area every year for over 20 yrs now and this is one of the nicest spots we have stayed in. Lovely and quiet and right off the coastal path, great for walking/ running with the pooch and nestled between the lovely Crantock and Polly joke beach, good for our teenage girls bodyboarding/surfing. Oh and it’s just round the corner from the pub ! One addition that would really help is adding a shower attachment to the hosepipe down the side of the building for washing down wet suits and boards, dog. But other that that a perfect stay and needless to say we have already booked for next year ! Thanks so much.

  • "Beautiful decor with ample space for us all."

Information booklet encourages blankets provided with paw prints for use of pets…none to be found. There was a constant dripping of the kitchen taps which was like Chinese water torture! There was an awful noise whenever we took a shower that resonated throughout the whole residence. Initially it didn’t bother us but feel we need to at least let owners know. It would be nice if the hedge could be cut shorter so that the gorgeous view is visible from outside seating area. One garden chair was broken as the bolts had rusted underneath. Provision of just one toilet roll we thought rather mean, along with no washing powder. A cream tea, biscuits and dog biscuits were provided in our last cottage too!

Hi Diane, Thank you very much for your feedback. It’s the only way we get to hear about any issues. As it turned out, we were down the week after you and saw what you meant about the tap! That has now been replaced and has stopped the hammering in the system. We have also replaced the chair but have a new table and chair set arriving imminently. And we also cut the hedge whilst we were down which our gardener seems reluctant to do but we totally agree that it spoils the view!! I appreciate that all of this is after the fact but wanted you to know that we have resolved these issues should you visit again in the future. In terms of the toilet roll, our property manager typically leaves one as a lot of people have an online shop delivered on their arrival day. Unfortunately we don’t have the ability to provide a cream tea with not being near the property. We do ensure that there is tea, coffee, sugar and milk so that people can at least have a hot drink on arrival. Thank you again for your feedback. Caroline & Steve. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was absolutely perfect."

Firstly, the cottage is part of the overall cottage you see on the first photo, it’s to the back and to the right. The whole cottage is split into 3 and for Kittiwake you park at the back to the right behind the cottage, opposite the amazing view. We came in early May and got so lucky with the weather, it was lovely the entire week. The view from the living area / kitchen is just breathtaking. It makes the cottage. The hedge and garden were so well presented on arrival. The cottage is a 5 minute walk to Polly Joke which in my opinion is the best beach in and around Newquay. It’s 15 minutes to the beach if you had to the cliff and around to the beach. The cottage was lovely, very clean, very cosy, well equipped and all fresh on arrival. Very very modern but in keeping with the beach / coast theme. Just lovely. Loads of info in handbook, leaflets and such for what to do in area. We knew the area well so knew this place was just perfect for what we wanted, walks with our little girl and our Cockapoo and adventures. Beach. Swimming, though still a bit cold in May! It really was the best holiday and we was gutted to leave. The neighbours in the other cottages were lovely, very respectful and hope we was too with our dog and baby! Useful: Morrisons is literally 10 minutes up the road if you want a click and collect or delivery. But most places will deliver to these cottages. One issue we had was (and it was nothing to do with the cottage but worth pointing out). The drive way in which you go down to park at kittiwake is shared with Goose Rock Apartments (used to be Goose rock hotel). Past the drive way is an open space which I believe is Goose Rock Apartments main car park but my partner went out to look at the view with our dog. The owner, who resides in one of the apartments shouted off the balcony if my partner was in one of the apartments. She politely said she was staying in the cottage next door. He then barked at her saying it was private property and their was a sign. We checked and there is a sign, but it’s before were you park for Kittiwake and the larger cottage at Seaspray. Obviously was just an honest mistake, we could see the view quite clearly she just wanted to have a look at Crantock Bay. But he was quite unpleasant to her and we wouldn’t want any other Kittiwake and Seaspray visitors to stroll into this area and realise the mistake we made and be shouted at. We get that it was Goose Rocks car park but it seemed strange he would be so spiteful especially when we were temporary neighbours who would maybe consider that property too in the future. Now we won’t. But Kittiwake will definitely be in our future plans and can see why so many reviewers return. It’s just amazing.

Hi Mark, Thank you very much for your feedback. We’re glad that - for the most part - you enjoyed your holiday. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience with our neighbour at Goose Rock - sadly it’s not an isolated incident. Going forwards we’ll put a note in our property literature to warn people about not going on to their property! Thank you again and hope to welcome you in the future. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Kittiwake, it is very attractively furnished and finished. The view is awesome and the location is perfect for all the beautiful local beaches. • "We had a lovely week at Kittiwake and thoroughly enjoyed it."

It was very clean, comfortable and well provisioned (apart from the one roll of toilet paper, not even a spare provided!). Close to stunning walks and the beautiful Polly Joke beach. It takes about 20 mins along the coastal path to walk to the Crantock beach car park (where the surf school is) when the tide is in. If the tide is out there are some steps down to the beach that cuts off a big corner. There is one aspect of the description of the cottage that is not quite accurate though - as another reviewer has pointed out you can only see a small strip of sea from the patio (and none at all from the grass) as the hedge obscures it. The garden is a lovely sheltered spot for sitting with a book and I used it a lot during our stay, but the listing says you can eat on the patio with a view of Goose Rock which is not the case. The pictures shown with the listing show the hedge cut much lower than it is currently. The listing is misleading from that perspective. You can see the sea and Goose Rock from inside the house, but the garden slopes down and so is lower.

Set back behind the main part of the bungalow with a lovely sea view and small garden and right on the coastal path. The house was well equipped, spotlessly clean and just perfect for what we wanted. A relaxing stay and a 5 minute walk to Polly Joke and Crantock beach. There were some ongoing building work but this didn’t spoil our visit. The neighbouring ‘Seaspray’ accommodation was well maintained and the guests staying were friendly polite. We were nervous about traveling in these uncertain times but Sykes had made every effort to ensure we had a lovely stay. Thank you to the owners and Tracey for a wonderful stay! • "Kittiwake cottage is wrongly advertised."

You will not be staying in the advertised picture, but a converted garage at the back of the advertised property. There are views of goose rock, but only if you are standing up. Tried to speak to customer services, no answer on the phone lines, very slow response to emails and not helpful at all, in fact rude. If you want a cottage over looking the sea, this will not be for you. It’s a garage, a nice garage, but not what you would expect! I’ve tried to publish pictures to show the true property, but have been unable.

This time however we did feel that the building work at nearby Goose Rock impacted on our holiday quite a bit. We didn’t feel comfortable using the garden as we usually do as we were overlooked by the builders. There was bad language being used and our peace and quiet was also interrupted by the sound of power tools when we left our patio doors open. We understand that building work has to happen and we were warned prior to booking but last time the ongoing building work wasn’t a problem hence we decided to book again for this year. I do feel that the price should have reflected this as it is not cheap to stay at Kittiwake and feel that some compensation should be given in view of this.

Perfect location, very comfortable accommodation, well equipped, clean, easy parking, with excellent accessibility to the beach, and Crantock village with a well stocked village shop and coffee shop. We enjoy lots of walking on the coastal paths, either North or South, all the beaches are dog friendly, so being able to take our dog just adds to the enjoyment of the holiday. Crantock is a wonderful place, away from the crowds of Newquay, with a large sandy beach, but also there's the very special Polly Joke Beach, if you prefer a smaller sandy cove. CBay, and the Bowgie Inn, are great for having a drink or meal, overlooking Crantock Beach. Perfect holiday, can't wait to go back!

  • "We loved our stay in Kittiwake - it is a beautifully thought-out cottage, well equipped with lovely personal touches and lots of care gone into it."

The location is stunning and we had a wonderful week. I had one point to make - as noted by Sykes Cottage just a few weeks before our stay there was a significant amount of building work going on. The builders were pleasant and polite but they arrived at 7am and were working hard all day with all the noise and equipment that necessarily entails. There were various vehicles going up and down the side of the property including diggers, trucks and cars and also a flow of people. This intruded on our time both in the house as we could hear them from very early in the morning and in the garden. I must stress it was not their fault but it did have an impact on the peace and quiet seclusion of the property which was one of the prime reasons we booked it. We also had small children with us and it was not ideal to have them in close proximity of moving vehicles when getting them in and out of the car. I wondered if there was any possibility of some form of compensation for this intrusion. Other than that I have nothing but positive feedback for this delightful place. thank you

The property

Kittiwake is one of the three Seaspray cottages based in West Pentire.

The two bedroom cottage boasts fantastic views over the Goose Rock to the Newquay coast, perfect to look at whilst enjoying your breakfast on the patio.

The living area of the cottage has been recently renovated to create an open plan living/dining and kitchen area which is light and airy, with modern coastal decor.

The cottage is decorated in neutral tones with splashes of colour in each room to give it a fresh, modern feel.

Although not completely on one level, Kittiwake is still suitable for guests who can manage a few stairs as the staircase is not very big. The Seaspray cottages are a five minute walk from Crantock beach and about the same to Polly Joke (Porth Joke) beach, making it a family or surfers haven.

A few minutes walk away is a pub, serving food and drink with the same fantastic view, as well as a cafe/bistro offering brunch, lunch and dinner as well as coffees and cream teas.

Crantock village is only five minute drive away, where there are two more pubs, a Londis grocery store, Post Office and other village attractions.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
