“We visited Tolcarne Terrace on the 13th October and stayed for 7 days.”

The property is of an exceptionally high standard and the hosts, Otter & Chris are extremely welcoming and friendly. The property is a perfect base to explore the west of Cornwall with Newlyn itself having all of the facilities a couple might want for a relaxing break. I would highly recommend this property and will not hesitate to return in the future.

The property

Perfectly located for touring the stunning far west of Cornwall this cosy yet spacious traditional old fisherman's terraced cottage is set in the heart of the historic small town and famous fishing port of Newlyn just a short stroll from the harbour.

You will feel at home immediately on entering this beautifully furnished cottage which is full of character and charm.

Owned by a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists original artworks adorn the walls throughout along with many quirky and unusual features. The living room features a log burner in front of the comfy sofa to curl up on after a day walking along the breathtaking coastline.

The unusual dining table has been specially made from the wood of an old boat, and with the solid heavy chairs these add further character to this wonderful cottage.

The bedroom is situated on the first floor and enjoys the benefit of a changing room both with views over the famous old bridge in the town.

When it comes to dining you are literally spoilt for choice.

Just around the corner from the cottage is the historic maritime pub and restaurant, The Tolcarne Inn, well known as a leading destination for seafood lovers.

With a great selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs as well as takeaways including Cornwall's oldest pasty makers and the mandatory fish and chips, all tastes are well catered for.

With the art galleries to explore and the unusual cinema to enjoy there is so much to see and do in the immediate area whatever the weather.

Superb walking is available right from the door, head along the coast either to Penzance and onto Marazion and St Michael's Mount, or in the other direction to the picturesque fishing village of Mousehole.

About the location

NEWLYN

Penzance 1 mile.

Nestled next to Penzance, and although still a quaint village in its own right, Newlyn is actually the third largest fishing port in England, and an important Port of Refuge for all sea baring craft. It is unusual in that visitors can still watch the landing and auctioning of fish at the market, as many families have for centuries before. This Cornish village is clustered around the harbour, with its historic 800 year old quay (the Mayflower actually left for America from this quay, not Plymouth) curling around a few small boats on the western side. Famous for the Newlyn school of Art and Newlyn Copper, the Cornwall Coastal Path passes through the village, as does the level Mousehole to Marazion cycle path. An abundance of wildlife and flora can be enjoyed along both, with basking sharks, dolphins and grey seals often seen. The Cornish coast is renowned for surfing, and Penwith offers some splendid beaches on which to enjoy this sport as well as surf fishing for sea bass. Mounts Bay also offers a wealth of opportunity for watersports enthusiasts as well as giving visitors an opportunity to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings.
