There is not enough space to write all the positive things I would like to say about our holiday at 4 Tolcarne Terrace, Newlyn in Cornwall. To begin with we were delighted to be met at the cottage by our hosts who had left many welcoming gifts for us such as beautiful flowers, scones, jam, Cornish clotted cream, biscuits, locally baked bread, milk, nut snacks and love heart sweeties by the bed! Above and beyond this, there was a good supply of “necessities” such as toiletries, teas, coffee, cooking oils etc.. We have never experienced such generosity in any other holiday accommodation. The extremely high quality of the furnishings, bedding and linens could set an example to many holiday property owners, as these items offer a much more comfortable experience. Finally, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole ambience of this former fisherman’s cottage. The artist owners have created an interior of eclectic delights and comforts we were reluctant to leave. The location of the cottage is perfect for access to the whole surrounding area either on foot, by car or bus. Within the village there are several excellent restaurants, pubs, shops and a superb cinema/restaurant showing high quality films in a very comfortable environment! Newlyn has a sizeable fishing fleet working out of its busy harbour thus offering fish-lovers an opportunity to feast upon a wonderful variety of seafood. We highly recommend this holiday accommodation and destination.

About the location

Penzance 1 mile.

Nestled next to Penzance, and although still a quaint village in its own right, Newlyn is actually the third largest fishing port in England, and an important Port of Refuge for all sea baring craft. It is unusual in that visitors can still watch the landing and auctioning of fish at the market, as many families have for centuries before. This Cornish village is clustered around the harbour, with its historic 800 year old quay (the Mayflower actually left for America from this quay, not Plymouth) curling around a few small boats on the western side. Famous for the Newlyn school of Art and Newlyn Copper, the Cornwall Coastal Path passes through the village, as does the level Mousehole to Marazion cycle path. An abundance of wildlife and flora can be enjoyed along both, with basking sharks, dolphins and grey seals often seen. The Cornish coast is renowned for surfing, and Penwith offers some splendid beaches on which to enjoy this sport as well as surf fishing for sea bass. Mounts Bay also offers a wealth of opportunity for watersports enthusiasts as well as giving visitors an opportunity to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings.
