  • "This was a great little cottage in a great place!"

So close to all our favourite places in Cornwall! The cottage itself was great for a weeks stay for myself, my partner and our 2 dogs. The cottage is on the owners property, but they leave you well alone. Great little touch of a welcoming bottle of wine. Was a great week away giving us some normality back after a weird 18 months for all. Thanks for having us, we would definitely look to book again!

  • "We loved our holiday."

The Cottage was ideal for our requirements. The Dogs could run about in the Garden, perfectly safely. The Cottage is in an ideal position for all amenities. Easy to get to all the seaside places. Although the Cottage is in the Grounds of the owner, they are lovely people. They never bothered us.

  • "We found the Cottage very cosy and mostly comfortable-obviously it was not possible for us to have the cushions, DVD etc due to the virus."

However, the photos in your adverts need updating as the bathroom is totally different to what you show and there is not now a bath. ( The water was piping hot, towels luxurious and lovely hot towel rail.) We liked the idea of a bungalow as my husband is a stroke survivor with limited mobility. Naturally, in the tiny bedroom it made sense for him not to have to climb across to the far side of the bed, so I was happy to do so, but I wonder if it might be possible to put a light onto the wall and erect some kind of tiny shelf in the corner so that the person sleeping that side could at least have somewhere to put a book/torch/glass of water? ( I managed by hanging a bag from the bedpost so I could keep essentials within reach. I am not complaining -just making suggestions which others might benefit from; I would happily go back to the Cottage and found it a great base from which we could explore the beautiful north coast of Cornwall.

Other than that a lovely cottage and garden and good location.

  • "Nice quiet location everything we needed the only thing we didn't like was the soft bed which was fine for small people like us any taller and would have been cramped."

Ideal location to be close to surrounding beaches

  • "We had an amazing holiday and The Cottage was lovely and very comfortable, the only criticism is that the description says the cottage is in the owners grounds it does not state that the owners home is opposite and totally overlooks the “private garden” that comes with the cottage."

Having said this thankfully it was not a problem as the owners had theirs blinds permanently closed and we very rarely bumped into them.

  • "Well the cottage appears idyllic and I have to be honest location wise it is."

We really wanted it to be perfect which the pictures show it as, but it does have a few drawbacks that really have to be mentioned and it sounds like "Sykes" could be largely to blame for as they had apparently advised the owners against making changes. A picture of the forward facing view should be included in the advert as we did not realise the cottage was facing the main building - this was also off putting as ourselves and the owners had no privacy. We had trouble using the heaters, silly really as we tried and tried to get any of them working, we found the instructions which were in the kitchen drawer, but even following the instructions, we could not get them to work. We had not realised that the owners wife was home - as most reviews we read - it stated that they said hello but then left you to get on with your holiday - so that could easily have been sorted, but we had a cold night - which is understandable given the solid construction of the cottage, so really not great. The owners keep the place very clean we couldn't fault that at all and the treats on arrival were really appreciated, however .........we had to abort our holiday after just one night instead of five, my wife are above average height and the double bed is crammed in, my feet were touching the wall all night making it very uncomfortable, the blinds are not blackout and where the bed is located just off the living room - it was "very" bright at 5am. Being a small apex building the rooms naturally slope towards the sides. Where the shower is located in the alcove its something like 4 foot off the ground, I had to hold the shower head to make any use of it, that combined with a tiny electric heater meant a very low flow for hot water, less than adequate. Therefore the combination of lack of sleep, no hot water for the shower and feeling cold - we could not accept this for a second night. The toilet took a while to fill and I have a horrible feeling the entire water supply to the cottage is via an external hose pipe which most certainly wouldn't pass building regulations . So overall it could be really good with change, but as it currently is, it falls well short of what we would expect from a holiday let and is certainly below what we have previously experienced.

I'm sorry to hear that The Cottage didn't live up to your expectations. Whilst the property does sit on the ground of the owner's home, it does benefit from its own private garden. In addition, privacy blinds have been utilised to prevent guests from being overlooked. It's a shame that you felt it necessary to cut your stay short due to the problems you experienced operating the heating system. I'm sure if you had brought this to the owner's or our attention this could have been swiftly resolved. We have since been in contact with the property owner who has assured us that there are no problems with the heating or hot water. We would also like to clarify that The Cottage has its own mains water supply and does meet all the relevant building regulations. I hope this experience will not deter you from going on holiday with us. If you do book with us in the future please don't hesitate to get in touch if you need any assistance.
