  • "A beautiful, well equipped house in a stunning location with glorious views across the estuary."

Had everything we could possibly need whilst staying here. Our only slight disappointment was the lack of proper showers in the 2 bathrooms in side the house. But thus did not detract from the enjoyment of the holiday. Would stay again

  • "Perfect location and such a warm comfortable home."

Booked last minute and although weather was unkind to everyone over the country for a few days, it didn’t stop us venturing out and about. Would have liked a BBQ and the addition of hooks in bedrooms would be good. Front bedroom on 1st floor does need a small dressing table near plugs. Top floor bedroom and bathroom is beautiful but would have loved a shower up there as the gorgeous bath was a struggle to get in and out of. To walk down 2 flights of stairs each time to the shower was challenging. Although the shower room is excellent.

Thank you for providing such thoughtful feedback, we are pleased to hear you otherwise found the property comfortable and enjoyed its great location. Property Owner

  • "Such a fantastic holiday home."

Great location set up away from the main road so it's really quiet. Beautiful place with excellent attention to detail inside and lovely lawn and firepit/furniture out. And the outside shower room makes it so easy after a day at the beach. Whole family loved it.

Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We very much look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "We have had a busy summer, so it's taken a while to give feedback, but we absolutely loved our stay and it was a huge highlight for us."

The house is beautiful and has everything you need. It's in a wonderful location, a short walk to the cafes and restaurants and a short boat ride across to Padstow. The rooms are beautiful and the top room has a stunning view of the Estuary from the bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is so well equipped and has everything you need, lots of fridge space and a separate drinks fridge. St Enodoc's hotel is just behind as well and we had some lovely meals and drinks there too. We were a little bit unsure about the shower room being on the ground floor but it was no hassle at all and lovely to have a big shower room, especially with the kids and to be able to get everyone in there on the way back from the beach. Fee's is just a short walk away too and had lovely breakfast bits and home cooked frozen meals which were lovely for a night in. Beautiful big space outside and a swing on the tree which the kids loved. It was also fab to have two seating areas, one for us and one for the kids! Check in was super easy and we were also able to get fresh bedding etc half way through our stay. We hope to return again soon!

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's great to hear that you had such a fabulous stay and had the perfect base to explore the local area from. We would love to have you back again soon. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely stay and very tempted to come back soon!"

Finding it from the post code alone was as hard as other comments have said. The house shares a driveway with ‘Chy An Fos’ and ‘Mencarrack’ which both have signs on the main road. It’s the driveway following St Endoc when coming into Rock. House was lovely and we enjoyed using the kitchen and fire place. Again like a few other comments have said it would have been handy to have a instructions book as we had to call John Bray office to figure out how a few things operated. The location is perfect with views of the water and St Endocs right behind. Being able to go to the spa or restaurant and take two steps home was very luxurious and relaxing.

Thank you for your comments on Black Rock House. We will look into the couple of items that you have raised. John Bray Cornish Holidays Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Black Rock House (three generations from 0 - 69 years!"

). Good location within an easy walk to the beach and spacious sheltered enclosed garden (steep steps for toddlers but we just kept an eye out). As mentioned by a previous guest, it isn't easy to find but look out for a shared drive going down into Rock on the right hand side just before a long white wall of the next property. The house is at the top of the drive through double gates. A welcome house visitor guide would also have been helpful (we couldn't use one TV) and we couldn't find the downstairs shower room. A key was hanging in the entrance but we had covered it over with a coat on arrival and, as the information states, it is accessed at the back of the property so you have to go outside to use it. Both baths have hand held showers over but not suitable for a stand up shower. None of these factors were a problem though and we had a lovely stay.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and you had a lovely stay and loved the location, however we are sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the location and we will endeavour to improve on this. We will mention to the owner regarding the showers. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner Property Owner

  • "Overall we enjoyed our stay and the views, and the location, made it an enjoyable trip."

Having used John Bray for over 30 years and so have a little experience in holiday lettings I would make the following observations, some general, some specific to the property. It is a pity that the interactive map to find the property doesn't have the name of the house on it! The - presumably - old name really doesn't help! As so much, understandably, has been made about "covid cleaning", it was disappointing that some of the vacuuming was very sketchy, the kitchen work surface was poorly cleaned and the wall to floor radiator in the kitchen was leaking ( surely that had been noticed?). These points were notified to the office on the Saturday but no repair was carried out in our week there. Whilst nice to have 2 "living rooms", the front room was so full of furniture that moving in the room was difficult. The very large wing chair in front of the TV was superfluous. In the kitchen/dining area the front window was almost completely obscured by an enormous pile of outdoor cushions - nice in the summer but never used last week. We thought that whilst the outdoor showers were good for coming in off the beach etc, not having a proper indoor shower in any bathroom was a negative. In windy conditions which we had the top floor room was very noisy - ? loose roof slates?? I think the lack of "proper" wine glasses detracts from an otherwise very well equipped kitchen. I feel that 9am is an unreasonably early time to vacate the property, one of the reasons we paid to have it cleaned. In over 30 years of using John Bray this is the first time we have paid a "security deposit" - £400 in this instance. To be told that it will take 2 weeks before it is returned I think is unacceptable.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your visit. We're very sorry that you had to experience these issues during your stay. Your comments have been passed on to the team at John Bray Cornish Holidays and to the owner. We hope to welcome you back to north Cornwall in the future. Regarding the £400 security deposit and the two-week refund period, this is a new policy that has been brought in since the takeover from Sykes Cottages. Furthermore the 9am checkout time we feel is necessary to provide the cleanliness and hygiene standards that we aim for, we apologise again for these not being met for your stay. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner.
