  • "We had a fantastic stay and found the location and the house to be perfect for our needs."

It also had an EV charger which was one of the reasons we chose it as it made our stay much easier. The house was well equipped and the garden perfect and enclosed for our dog. Many thanks for a great week away.

Many thanks for your positive feedback. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Denis and Hilary, Owners Property Owner

  • "Lovely to have linen supplied."

Found the property not up to usual standard regarding cleaning. The kitchen sink was very dirty as was the saucepan I retrieved which had not been fully cleaned by the washer. The toaster had not been moved and crumbs were everywhere finally my wife washed the floors which were dirty especially around the kitchen table and french windows. We like the property which is especially convenient with our dog who is able to roam in the back garden.

Thank you for your feedback. We have had a few problems with cleaning and have now directly employed our own caretaker. We also now supply our own linen, rather than renting it.. We hope to welcome you back to Curlew in the future. Hilary & Denis (Owners) Property Owner

  • "Stayed here last year as well."

Superb facility, close enough to be able to walk to the beach. House is clean, up together. One improvement is that they now supply bed linen & towels, which makes it so much easier. Lovely secure back garden, which is great for the dog. Kitchen is well equipped, lounge is comfortable with a bew tv. Really couldn't fault anything. Will certainly look to stay here again.

  • "Good location, the property is adequate."

Nice garden and quiet. Beds were old and uncomfortable. The house smelt damp in places and the furniture was stained in the lounge. Overall the property needs a refurbishment, we stayed here over 10 years ago and nothing has been updated or changed in the property.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that you feel the property needs updating, however in the last 5 years we have done the following; Replaced all but one of the sofa’s and chairs in the sitting room. The kitchen has had a complete revamp with new cupboard doors, some units replaced, new cooker with induction hob, new electrical items and a new kitchen floor. All the bedrooms have also been repainted. The Heating System has been replaced with an Air Source Heat Pump. We note your comments about the beds and for 2023 we have replaced the zip & link bed, replaced the double bed mattress and put quality toppers on the twin beds Property Owner

  • "Really nice property & would be happy to return."

Only issue we had was the heating was locked & having a 4 month old baby with us, this was an issue & having read other feedback on this property, others had had this issue. In fairness as soon as this was raised with John Brays, they sorted it with the owner & whilst contacting the owner, they dropped 3 electric heaters around. Only other issue is the lateness of access 4:30pm & how early you have to check out 9am. Whilst I appreciate extra cleaning due to covid, these times are quite late & very early. Lovely secure garden especially with the dog.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your stay. We're very sorry that you had to experience these issues during your visit but thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we sorted them for you. Your comments have been passed on to the team at John Bray Cornish Holidays, we have now modified are checking in/out times to 4.00pm check in and 9.30 check out. • "The property is in a great location and has a private garden."

We are unsure if the property was cleaned before our arrival, there was washing in the machine, the mattress protector, pillows and duvet were visibly not clean and there were lots of cobwebs around the property. As previously mentioned in a review, the property is very damp. The soft furnishings and now all of our belongings smell of damp. The heating frustratingly was locked, we were unable to heat the property sufficiently. To have hot water, we had to regularly boost the water system. The vacuum cleaner was not effective and the mop had no sponge on it, this made it difficult for us to clean. We did contact Sykes, we were provided with a new mattress protector and the heating was increased for 24 hours.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your stay at Curlew. We have looked into the issues you have raised. Damp:- We have inspected the property and have talked to 2 other clients who stayed after you. They did not experience any problems with damp so we are at a loss to explain the problems you encountered. FYI the previous report of damp related to only a minor issue, not the whole property and was resolved prior to your arrival. Heating:- The controls are locked to avoid anyone inadvertently changing the overall settings, however even when locked it does allow the temperature to be increased to 24 deg C. Hot Water:- We have investigated the hot water programming to find that at some point it was changed to delete the programmed running times, this has now need resolved. Other Issues:- These have all now been resolved. We're very sorry that you had to experience these issues during your visit but thank you for bringing these to our attention so that we could take action. We hope you still enjoyed your stay regardless of these and would love to welcome you back to north Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

However we discovered dampness in the back double bedroom and the smell in the kitchen cupboards. One small thing I contacted you via email was the lack of enough pegs for the washing. I received no reply.

Thank you for your feedback and informing us of these issues. We have informed the owner and will work with them to resolve these. We do apologise for the lack of reply concerning the pegs and hope that If you return for a 6th time we will be able to help you with any issues that may arise. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "I had a lovely holiday at Curlew in 2021 (having stayed there same week for several years) and was expecting to be contacted this autumn about booking for 2022 (as always happened with John Bray existing customers were given first refusal on dates)."

So was very disappointed when happened to glance at website today and found the property had already been let. You will have a lot of disgruntled John Bray customers as I don’t think we were informed that Sykes would change the booking process and that may already have missed opportunity to book regular properties for next year.

Thankyou for the lovely feedback regarding your stay and hope it has lived up to your previous stays in years prior. We apologise for the lack of communication regarding first refusals for returning customers resulting in you not being able to book the property again for 2022. The takeover with Sykes Cottages has made communication inconsistent and sadly many customers have been let down which has been beyond our control. We hope if you book with us again we will be able to assist you with anything you need. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner
