  • "Lovely location and a stones throw from the beach."

The cleanliness was an issue in some areas- the kitchen was dirty in some areas ( some food splash marks on cupboards and bread bin, the oven needed a clean and the trays, pots pans - some had not been cleaned properly. The living room sofas and chairs need a really good clean as heavily stained. The windows needed to be cleaned as lots of dirty marks all over. Maintenance - one bathroom in particular was quite bad with mould in different areas and where the shower screen doesn’t meet the bath the water leaks very badly and has caused the wall to be damp and the paint is flaking ( also there are plugs on the opposite side of the wall for the lamps ) Which could be quite dangerous if it soaks through. The heated towel rail in the same bathroom doesn’t work so we had to use the other bathroom to dry the towels ( this was also being used by other guests with us) When we had heavy rain it looked as though the water was starting to cause a patch on one of the beams in the living room ( this was directly under the balcony to the bedroom ) The mattress the upstairs bedroom was really uncomfortable - when we looked at the mattress it was an Emma and as we have one, thought that was great as it will be really comfortable but unfortunately wasn’t - it was as though we were touching the base when lying on it. We still had a lovely holiday and the cottage is really spacious in a stunning location but it is let down by a lot of small things that could be easily fixed. We would love to return but only if these issues were dealt with.

We are pleased to hear you loved the location and had a great holiday. We are sorry for any issues with the cleaning and maintenance but have now raised these with the respective teams thanks to your feedback. We do hope that we get the opportunity to welcome you back to Cornwall in the future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Dolphins."

However the cleanliness was disappointing. The interior window ledges were dirty and there was dust under the beds. One bathroom had black mould all over the walls. This was cleaned off by one of the maintenance team and the heated towel rail was turned on mid-week. We stayed last year, and didn't have the same issues so not sure if a different cleaning company has the contract this year. Overall the house is in a great location and is well equipped.

  • "A lovely house in a fab location."

Very well equipped and beautiful views all around. The downstairs bedrooms are quite small especially the single and twin but fine for children. The master bedroom upstairs needs an en-suite - you need to come down stairs for a bathroom and in the night that’s not ideal. However it’s a wonderful place to stay and we would definitely return.

  • "Dirty saucepan which clearly has been used , not cleaned properly nor checked by cleaner."

Both bathrooms had water sitting in sinks with plugs that didn’t work. I had also called Sykes after reading reviews to check that work had been completed on the “banging from the wood burner flue”. I was assured it had been. If it was, then the problem has resurfaced. It sounds like someone is trying to break in!! We also had an issue with no hot water when we got to the property. I can’t fault the next day repair by a plumber and electrician. This is a lovely property in a stunning location. It just needs a bit of money spent to bring it up to the standard you expect . Would we stay here again? No.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, i have sent all the issues over to house keeping and maintenance to have a look at these issues, we do hope we can welcome you back again soon. John Brays on behalf of the owners. Property Owner

  • "We loved the location and layout of the house."

It was well kitted out and we loved the addition of a few bits for some baking - we failed to make the scones we were hoping to make but did manage a few loaves of bread. We felt that a few more store cupboard essentials could be left in the house with some oil and salt being the only things left in the kitchen. However, our main complaint is about how our concerns were dealt with. We emailed to let the John Bray team know about three things: 1) Something in the flue of the wood burner was knocking each night and was waking us up. We were woken the first few nights once or twice a night but then had a night where we were woken 3-4 times! We attached an audio file of the banging, hoping that this would be taken seriously and something done as a matter of urgency. 2) That we hadn't been informed that the wood burner was broken before we got down to the property and only knew it wasn't working because of the cardboard sign left in the appliance. It would be courteous to let us know before we arrived if one of the appliances isn't working. 3) That the plug in the bathroom off the sitting room wasn't holding water and needed looking at. This obviously meant that we were limited to a single bath - certainly a first world problem but a bit of an inconvenience when returning from surfing. Following our email we were sent a single sentence reply. We then heard nothing more from either the John Bray team or anyone who might be involved in the maintenance of the property. This was extremely disappointing. All that was really required as for someone to take our issues (in particular the flue waking us every night) seriously. Having never needed to get much help from the John Bray team on any of our numerous other trips to the area, we don't have a lot of experience of how they normally deal with issues like these. This trip will make us think twice before booking with them again and we will explore other options. Customer service is important.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Firstly, our properties are of a self catering nature. so provisions are not usually provided in the property aside from basics such as oil, salt etc. Your comments regarding the maintenance issues were passed onto our maintenance team, our sincerest apologies that they could not come up with a solution to these issues during your stay. We hope you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "Dolphins was the most wonderful place to stay!"

Great location and we didn't need a car at all as so much is within walking distance. House was great and so well equipped. Master bedroom was perfect with the best views and a comfortable bed. Loads of room for a large group and a very comfy sitting room. Maybe could have done with a better twin room as beds and headboards didn't match so when pushed together wasn't great? Great space outside with lots of patio furniture that is not mentioned in details but really is perfect to sit with views over the estuary. We will be booking Dolphins again next year!

The facilities were good, and as described, and the kitchen was stocked with a great number of utensils and services. The lounge space was big and comfortable and the whole property light and airy, with great views. Would highly recommend.

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at Dolphins, which was helped by the tropical weather all week!"

It was lovely to be so near to 3 beautiful beaches and pretty Cornish villages to visit. The house was lovely and spacious and generally well equipped. However it was the first holiday cottage I've visited that didn't supply a hairdryer. The last cottage I stayed in supplied two! It was also a little disappointing that there wasn't a barbecue for us to use (although it wasn't advertised as supplying one). For the money we paid I would have expected a welcome pack, even a pint of milk and some teabags would have been good! Little extras like that go a long way! However, we had a fabulous holiday and loved the location.

  • "We stayed at dolphins for 6 nights with 6 adults and 3 children."

The property is a mixed bag. It can no longer be described as recently refurbished, now having some wear and tear, but overall leaves a nice impression. While we were there, some maintenance men turned up to fix an issue which must have been reported by the previous holidaymaker ( a broken doorknob) so clearly they are on top of it. The location is excellent and most things have been thought of such as dishwasher tablets and some toilet rolls to get you started. The beach is a 10min walk, but you can also park and pay with your phone or card. Daymer bay toilets are 40p to use. There is also a nice cafe there too. We have stayed at places costing less than this that will also have milk in the fridge, fresh bread from a local baker and stocked loo rolls, even some bacon for your first morning. Small things go a long way. While it is well appointed we thought it was missing a few things. There is no parasol for the table outside, only two sun loungers and the BBQ is too small for the likely number of people staying. We also could not find any table cloths to use on the cushioned protector that was in place. The lounge and master bedroom are very spacious, but other rooms quite pokey hard to manoeuvre around the beds. The driveway and general area has narrow dirt tracks so can be hard to get around especially if you have a larger car. Overall we enjoyed our stay and none of these things would prevent us from returning, just trying to share our observations and experience which are hard to see from the listing alone.

We have been reviewing all of our feedback over this years season, we just wanted to say a massive thank you for taking the time to feedback on your stay. Great views especially from bedroom balcony. Nice kitchen and lounge, only thing that let it down is lack of comfy seating outside especially for a five bedroom house. Only two sun loungers and a table and chairs. But overall a great place to stay and good value for money.

We had one small maintenance problem which was then dealt with very efficiently after that call. Double beds are a little small, especially with the restricting bed ends. Property really needs an upstairs bathroom but appreciate this requires both planning and expense.

The living room and dining room were spacious to accommodate 7 adults and 2 kids. The bed in the single room and twin beds were very uncomfortable. The property also had extremely dirty water running through all the taps on the first day, resulting in us having to spend quite a lot on drinking water.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Dolphins. it is great to hear that you thought the living and dining rooms were spacious enough for the family, both of which have access out into the garden. We are sorry to hear that the water was discoloured which I know the maintenance team helped resolve for you within 24 hours and the owner has been made aware of the mattresses which they are considering to update. We have also checked the detail we send to guests ahead of arriving to Dolphins which has been refreshed and much easier to understand. - John Bray Cornish Holidays. Property Owner
