We could not have asked for a better week. The biscuits, tea, coffee and milk were very welcome, and we loved the recipe ideas for the arga. We went to the horse and jockey for a meal in Manton, and we loved it. The village was so pretty and the people who lived there were very friendly. Thank you for a wonderful week. We will be back.

So glad you enjoyed your week, we would love to welcome you back. Many thanks for your review, Alex. Property Owner

  • "Great village setting, quiet with excellent pub just a few yards."

Further wide it is an attractive rural area with attractive towns and Rutland Waters. Wren cottage, in the main, was clean, tidy and comfortable. It disappointed where the garden, front and rear, was borderline unkempt; certainly for a commercial purpose. The main disappointment was from the plumbing, so much noise in the heating and transfer of water. Shower capability is restricted to "hand held" with minimal tile usage to waterproof. Lack of anti slippage supports were an irksome element that could prove a danger. Saying this we had a excellent response from the owners in them providing bath mats. I would like to go Wren cottage agai

Thank you Peter for your review, which raises some issues which we have considered. The garden is substantial and subdivided for the convenience of guests visiting with dogs. The grass is cut weekly and the hedge trimmed after August 1st to protect nesting birds. We provide garden furniture and benches and the borders are maintained in an informal style to support wildlife, abundant in Rutland. In a busy season, and with the vagaries of the weather, we try to maintain the garden without intruding on our guests. The plumbing has been noisy at times, the hot water is boosted by a pump to improve the pressure and we have had noise in the pipes which the plumber has dealt with, I'm sorry if this was a problem. I think it is important to emphasise that there is no shower provided at Wren Cottage due to the restricted headroom. The bathroom is described as having a bath with combination tap which allows rinsing when using the bath, and tiled appropriately. As you have kindly noted, anti slip mats were provided promptly when requested for the bath. Property Owner

  • "This was our second stay at Wren Cottage, a really lovely cottage in a peaceful, friendly village."

It's a perfect place to unwind. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need, a lovely room to eat in or just relax. The lounge is comfortably furnished and cosy, where you can watch telly or just snooze (which we did quite often!). The long cottage garden is beautiful and another great place to sit and relax, weather permitting. It's also very dog friendly and has a gate near the bottom of the garden, so you can restrict access if you wish, very handy at night to prevent your dog from disappearing up into the darkness! Upstairs, the bedrooms are very comfortable and we always had a good night's sleep. The owners, Alex and Ian, are very friendly and accommodating, and provide lots of information regarding the cottage and local places of interest. The village itself is lovely to walk round, with an interesting history. The Buttonhole cafe at Wing Hall is a lovely place where you can sit outside or in, and the staff very friendly, open Thursday to Sunday. The nearby King's Arms is handy and serves good food, very pricey, but also friendly. We didn't go too far afield on this holiday but did enjoy trips to the Lyndon Nature Reserve and Normanton Church at Rutland Water and also the Horse and Jockey at Manton, which serves good pub grub and the staff once again are very good. Uppingham is a short drive away, with many places of interest and a handy Co Op. Thank you for another lovely and relaxing holiday, we really enjoyed our stay.

Thank you Kathy for your kind and comprehensive review, which I am sure will will be both an accurate and informative assessment for others. Local recommendations are much appreciated too, thank you. We are glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

  • "After our booking was cancelled last November due to problems with the Rayburn heating I was a bit apprehensive about booking again, but I need not have worried, the cottage is lovely with everything we needed."

We had fantastic weather, sometimes too hot to let our dog outside. While my Husband booked a boat on Rutland water for a fishing week, I had a relaxing time in the beautiful garden, while musing over which plants I'd like to copy in my own garden. We had a meal in the King's Arms which is nearby, although nice, it was very expensive. We did pop back later in the week just for drinks. I have only one concern, not really a problem but the next door neighbour has access through the garden to take her wheelie bin out. This was fine but the gates caught in the breeze and blew open, fortunately my dog was inside and even when outside she was on a lead just incase. I hadn't seen her go through as she was very quiet and discreet, I just noticed the open gate. Had my dog been outside and not on a lead she would have been off like the wind. I would have liked the gate to have been a bit more secure especially if I could have used the top bolt. Otherwise a fantastic holiday and well worth waiting for. Thanks to the owner's for the milk, tea coffee and biscuits.

Thank for your comments, we are glad you enjoyed the cottage and garden and had a relaxing holiday. The cottage is in a very rural area, and our lovely neighbour is experienced with animals, usually very careful, and always happy to speak to our guests. I am sure that bolting the gate if there are concerns is perfectly acceptable, and maybe just let her know. We'll have another look at the latches too for better security. Property Owner
