  • "A great little place to stay, comfortable and welcoming."

    Mr GreenOct 2021

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our time."

    Mr WightSep 2021

  • "Great location for visiting a number of attractions such as Bath, Laycock, Dryham house, Newark House and Avebury."

Cottage well equipped and modernised. safe off road parking and major supermarkets within reasonable distance. Note needed sat nav on post code to spot entrance to property as easy to miss.

    Mr CarrSep 2021

  • "The grounds itself are amazing and The Comedy is a lovely little place for a weekend/week away with your other half."

Everything that was needed was on site and the owners leave you to your own devices. Would definitely stay again.

    Mr DesouzaJul 2021

  • "Had a lovely time, thanks very much."

Only suggestion would be a better matress, it felt like an old spring base and we are on a really good matress at home. Matress comfort is pretty subjective, others may love it. Would recommend to others! Publish if you like...

    Mr SandsApr 2021

  • "The cottage was mainly as described, Full of character and well decorated and clean However, I am 6ft tall and found the bedroom too low (banged my head) Despite the description saying I wouldn’t."

And the bed was small (Double). The place we rented the weekend before (costing about the same), provided super kings - which is what we have at home. The bathroom door off the bedroom could not be closed without banging the door loudly, thus waking the other partner during the night. Lastly, the property is next to a noisy scrap yard that started work at 8am

    Mr DraneSep 2020

  • "The Comedy is a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting."

A spacious well appointed kitchen/eating area downstairs and a comfortable lounge, bedroom and bathroom set in the eaves upstairs, with just the right amount of quirkiness to keep it interesting. A table and chairs outside the front door provide a great setting for a reflective drink at the days end. This is a great base to travel around the Southern Cotswolds, Somerset etc for sightseeing and long walks, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of long local walks directly from the cottage. We both appreciated the relaxed friendliness of our hosts and the local people we bumped into on our rambles. We returned home after our week relaxed and ready to return to real life.

    Mrs FinlaysonSep 2020

  • "Everything was as what we had expected."

The cottage was spotless. Bed was incredibly comfortable as were the pillows. Kitchen facilities were as you would need for self catering. Lots of floor space but have to be careful with the beams. Outside space was tranquil. Jo (owner) was responsive to our needs and kept strict social distancing.

    Mrs WalterAug 2020

  • "The comedy cottage was the perfect accommodation for our week in Wiltshire."

Very comfortable rooms, a well equipped kitchen, and generally a great space both indoors and outdoors. Jo and the family (including Ayrton the black Labrador) were lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful with anything we needed.

    Mr GrayAug 2020

Great views across the front garden, where deer, rabbits and plenty of birds were seen. Jo was also a lovely host. Ms Lavin, June 2017.

The property

We loved this holiday home when we visited it!

The Comedy is an attractive barn that sits in the grounds of the owner's magnificent home, set in a quiet and private location and ideal for a relaxing break in the countryside or as a base to visit many exceptional locations including Bath.

Guests can enjoy the gardens freely as well as use the tennis court too!

Unique in name and nature, The Comedy (originally for horses and coaches!) is spacious and very light with accommodation for two people (plus more if necessary).

Although not in Bath itself it is set in the southern Cotswolds, with places like Tetbury and Cirencester only 20 mins drive away while Bath in the other direction is about 25 mins drive.

In fact the barn is great spot for a 'town and country' break!

Downstairs is the kitchen/diner, bright, modern and well equipped, while upstairs is the Living Room , leading to the bedroom and ensuite.

(Please note that although the rooms are in the eaves upstairs, both are full height for a 6ft+ person and not in any way cramped or head hitting at all!) Throughout the home the colours are attractive, welcoming and very much in the modern-contemporary style but in keeping with the location.

The owners, who live on-site, have considered everything to make your stay comfortable.

If you're energetic you might like to use the tennis court!

For the lively and determined there are two pubs within walking distance across the fields.

For the Corona-Virus period, the property will be cleaned and left for 72hours between bookings, for added guest safety

About the location

Chippenham 11 miles; Cirencester 13 miles; Bath 23 miles; Tetbury 5 miles.

Dating back to the Iron Age and reputedly the oldest borough in England, the pretty market town of Malmesbury is located on a hilltop in the southern Cotswolds. Malmesbury is steeped in history and offers visitors over 400 listed buildings, a 15th century Market Cross, a ruined 7th century Benedictine abbey, an annual carnival and many independent shops, cafes and traditional pubs. Abbey House Gardens, home to 'The Naked Gardeners' can also be found in Malmesbury (Note: The gardeners are clothed during normal opening hours) and the annual Womad Music Festival is close by at Charlton Park. The area offers many country houses, including Rodmarton Manor and Gardens, and Chavenage House, a fine example of a Cotswold manor unchanged for 400 years. Just a short drive away is The Cotswold Water Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 40 square miles and offering a wide range of activities, including boating, waterskiing, fishing, cycling, golf and horse riding, plus Bath, Cirencester and Tetbury are all within easy reach and well worth a visit.
