  • "Had a lovely stay as always."

Stayed at property many times and its a beautiful area to visit. Its such a shame that my review has been influenced by costs. I stayed 3 nights and when I booked the cost was the same for 3, 4 and 5 nights. The cost was only an additional £150 for the full week which is great. On checking out I could see the cottage was still unbooked for the next few days so asked if my stay could be extended until the next morning. I was advised by Sykes there may just be an admin cost of £30 because the rate was initially the same for 3-5 nights but he needed to check with the owner. Unfortunately when it was confirmed I was advised the owner had requested an additional £250 for the 1 night extension as a pro rata rate... this was on top of the £30 admin fee. We opted not to stay because staying the additional one night would have cost more than the original price of a full week. I checked the cost of a new booking staying the day we were leaving for 6 nights and it was £850.. which is just over £140 a night. I would happily have paid this as a pro rata cost. Dont let my experience put you off booking.. its a wonderful place to stay but I felt I had to make a comment because as a returning customer it made us feel under valued and has affected our desire to return in the future. Such a shame.

Great pubs with warm welcomes, a good variety of dog walks locally, Manor House/Castle Inn next door and Westonbirt Arboretum just around the corner too. The cottage is beautifully renovated albeit now a little tired in places. Overall a family trip to remember and I would recommend.

Thank you for your feedback. It's lovely to hear you had a lovely family trip to Castle Combe and made the most of the wonderful site around the village. • "The cottage was absolutely fabulous."

The oldest home we have ever stayed in but also beautifully furnished. You are catapulted to a moment back in time with the cottage and the village of Castle Coomb. The Church is opposite and the clock chimes every hour - even through the night. We stayed on a cold weekend but the cottage was lovely and warm with the added bonus of having a wood burner which we made full use of. There are two pubs lat the end of the road. Sadly one (The Castle) was closed for refurbishment when we were there but there are couple of others -The White Hart at Ford and the Salutation Inn only a short drive away. Both dog friendly and with great food and lovely staff. We had a fantastic stay and some great long walks on the doorstep. Also have a look around the Manor House grounds if you are planning a stay there. The only slight problem we had was with a leak in the walk in shower. The owners were getting it repaired and had apologised in advance. Not sure if this was affecting the hot water but the shower ran cold after a short while. A bit of a problem with four of us staying. Perhaps this could be looked into. As said earlier the property is very old so expect low beams, sloping floors and wooden stairs which add to its charm. Also expect visitors to have a peep into the property as they walk up the street! We didn’t mind at all and as night falls you can close the wooden shutters, pour yourselves a glass of wine (from the welcome pack) and listen to the crackle of the log burner. TV is optional. The is more than enough room for four to stay very comfortably. It is not a small cottage by any means. The back garden with rear access was also a great addition if you are planning to take your pet along. Can’t wait to return - a really memorable weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely review which is much appreciated. We're delighted you had such an enjoyable stay and managed to make the most of the local amenities.Thank you for bringing the issue with the shower to our attention which has been looked at this week - we should mention that there are alternatively 2 roll top baths at the property. We would love to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Log fires, luxurious floor heated bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, down feather pillows and duvets plus stylish decoration are just some of the amenities, which were way over my rental expectations. Add room service from the hotel down the road, placement in a picture perfect village plus the local attractions of Bath and Tetbury and a plethora of delicious restaurants in the vicinity and you have the perfect ingredients for a great and relaxing weekend. We certainly did. Just wished I could've stayed longer.

  • "Cottage is stunning just beautiful and so close to lovely pubs and walks we really enjoyed our stay here."

The only issues we had was with cleanliness and comfort. Oven was filthy as was the toaster and kettle. Dust under bed and certain shelves was considerable Shower in main bathroom constantly dripped and mattress in main bed room dipped badly in middle so sleeping comfortably was an issue. Just a few attention to these details and it would of been a perfect stay.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your New Years stay at Castle Combe Cottage. It's wonderful to hear you loved the cottage and the area it's located in. I'm very sorry to hear the cleaning wasn't as you would have expected. The owner has confirmed that she and her housekeeper have very high cleaning standards which are adhered to. The owner takes all feedback very seriously and has investigated all your comments. The oven has been checked. The toaster and kettle have been replaced, even though they were both relatively new. The plumber will be attending this week to repair the shower. The mattress has been checked and no evidence of dipping has been found. May I ask, did you get in contact with the Owner during your stay to get these matters attended to?, as I know it would have been dealt with very quickly and she wants all guests to have a fabulous experience at the cottage. We hope to welcome you back at some point in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Pretty cottage in an understandably busy tourist spot so be prepared for people looking through your window / taking photos!"

Adjacent to a pretty churchyard, plus church with bells which ring on the hour. Nice cottage garden at the back of the property to sit out in. Access is also granted to the grounds of the hotel with a beautiful giant sequoia on site. We didn't have any problems with access, even on the day of a wedding. Owner very easy to contact and deal with. Really nice welcome pack, which accommodated intolerances - thank you. Very well-equipped kitchen, with everything you need should you wish to cook, though there are no shortage of pubs nearby for food. Superficially clean, especially bed linen, towels, bedding, kitchen utensils, glasses and crockery. Dusty in parts e.g., beams, skirting boards, around / underneath some of the furniture, plus some dusty cobwebs around the property. We asked for a second clean to be performed, which was accommodated quickly and partially completed. This is the countryside, so we had some guests in the form of pill lice, spiders and flies, but there is a very large UV-light fly zapper in the kitchen which will deal efficiently with anything airborne. Great base from which to access lots of nice places easily, e.g. Bath, Longleat, Salisbury, Wells, and we also ventured down to the New Forest which was lovely. Wi-Fi worked well considering the rural position of the cottage, no phone signal with our network provider, but the owner provides a landline for essential calls.

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback comments. Castle Combe is certainly a very pretty and popular village. The cottage does have the advantage of being situated within the private grounds of the hotel, so is more secluded than other areas of the village may be. We are pleased that you felt well accommodated for by the attentive owner, especially the welcome pack for your dietary needs. The beautiful 400 year old cottage has many character features crafted from natural materials, such as wooden beams and stone walls. Your comments have been taken onboard by the housekeeper. She does pride herself in the upkeep of the property and receives excellent scores in the cleanliness of the cottage. We are glad that you had the opportunity to explore further afield in this beautiful area. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

It was pity we couldn't use the other fire Place. Therefore It wasn't ideal place to stay in December. I would try different cottages next time as I still love Castle Combe area.

Thank you for your feedback. Although Mead Cottage is around 400 years old it does have a contemporary feel and therefore we chose to have bespoke, interior fitted shutters instead of curtains and find this more effective in keeping in the warmth. Our cosy living room does have a lovely log burner and we supply plenty of logs. Of course the cottage is fully centrally heated. We are searching for an expert to replace the chimney lining of the open fireplace.Cashmere and other types of throws are also on hand in case the temperature drops, as it did in the week of your stay, to minus 10 degrees. This is very rare indeed, to the extent that in the past 10 years of owning Mead Cottage, this is the first time that there has been an issue. Property Owner

A wonderful setting, picture postcard! Wonderful hotel grounds to wander around, perfect for little people and dogs! Lots of great pubs nearby, wonderful farm shop and cafe on the way to Chippenham. The cottage was brilliant, clean and the same as the pictures portray. It was equipped with basic amenities, dish washer tablets, washer tablets, cleaning cloths (no scourer) washing up liquid, tea, coffee and sugar.... and a packet of Border biscuits as a welcome?! Pity we weren't allowed to use the open fire, not sure why? Finally, to make it perfect, replacing all the existing glassware with good quality matching sets would be great.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback, we are so glad that you enjoyed the cottage and its location. The owner has advised that there is a log burner in the living room that guests are free to use. The open fire at the other end of the room needs a new chimney liner. Unfortunately, being a listed property, this is a drawn out process. She also immediately purchased some new glassware sets, the mismatched ones are a result of previous guests returning from the pub with drinks in hand! We are glad that you were pleased with the welcome pack and supplies provided and hope that you enjoyed the bottle of prosecco left for you in the fridge. We hope that we can welcome you back again. We were already staying at the Manor grounds as we added extra days there for our wedding. The cottage was clean and very welcoming with all amenities and comfort. Surroundings are beautiful. I would say the only down side was that tourists came up to the windows to view inside the property, whilst we were sat there! Although it was written on a card in the property that sometimes admission to the grounds when weddings/functions were on that this could restrict us, we did not realise, that once guests had gone into the venue, that we couldn’t even walk our dogs :( we accepted that the Manor itself would be off limits to wedding banquets, but to not be able to walk out dogs ( in the rain) we thought was a bit unfair. So for dog owners, this could be a hindrance. That being said, this was a beautiful area and a wonderful cottage that should not be missed!

Thank you for providing us with feedback on your stay at Castle Combe Cottage. It's great to hear that the owner allowed you and your furry friends in early, especially during the heatwave! We couldn't agree more that the area is indeed magnificent! We hope that the tourists looking into the property, as well as being unable to walk your dog during the wedding did not leave an impact on your stay. Understandably these are out of the owner’s control, and sadly there is nothing that can be done to prevent these. However, we are happy that you overall enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again in the future. Property Owner

We had a perfect half-term break. Barbara, the owner could not have been more helpful, and her recommendations were most helpful. The house was perfect for us (two adults and two teenagers) and we loved not having to get in the car - brilliant walks and pubs were a short walk away. We would love to return.

  • "This is a really lovely cottage in a fantastic location."

The Manor House hotel and village pubs are a couple of minutes walk away and the only noise you hear is the church bells. The cottage is beautiful inside and out and very luxurious. The bedrooms and bathrooms are particularly lovely. Castle Combe is a great base for visiting Tetbury, Cirencester, Lacock and the Aboretum. All in all, a great place to stay.

  • "Just returned from an idyllic week staying at this beautiful cottage."

Privately owned, but within the grounds of The Manor House Hotel, this lovely cottage was our base while visiting Wiltshire...and we loved it. It's only a few yards from the main hotel and also the two pub/restaurants in the small village itself. So great for anyone wanting a short walk in the evening for a drink. We ate at The Castle only once, which was ok, but there are much nicer restaurants just a few minutes drive away, including our favourite - The White Hart, Ford. We had 2 really good meals here, in very comfortable surroundings. We can also recommend The Biddestone Arms, where we sampled their award winnings pies...absolutely delicious!! The cottage itself is quite beautiful - with very comfortable furnishings, lovely bathrooms (2) and everything you need if you want to cook for yourself. The interior has been tastefully modernised, whilst retaining its charming and quaint cottage feel. It has a lovely terraced garden with comfortable seating for 'al fresco' dining - we spent many hours out here enjoying the tranquil surroundings. The owner - Barbara, gave us lots of information on places to visit, and recommendations on where to book for dinner - thank you Barbara. She was also keen to hear our views on our return, and grateful for the couple of suggestions we made. Highly recommended! \ Mrs Burke, June 2016

  • "I have to say that the quality of the cottage is exceptional."

Log fire and a wood burner with comfy sofas and contemporary furnishings. Two roll top baths, one in the main bedroom, and a fantastic walk in shower. Free wifi, flat screen TVs and iPod docking station. Every kitchen implement you could imagine but not really needed as two fantastic pubs within a stones throw from the cottage. Beautiful location and so peaceful. We cannot recommend this cottage enough and just hope that it doesn't mean that we can't get a future booking due to our little secret slice of paradise being revealed!
