The Cottage is set in the most beautiful and historic villages in England its like stepping back 500yrs, the cottage itself is clean, cosy and very characteristic of its surroundings, only drawbacks no secure outside space for pets and would benefit from WiFi as phone signal is none existent, living room furniture rather uncomfortable

Thank you for your feedback. It is a lovely spot in Castle Combe and one of our favorite locations to visit. Unfortunately the cottage doesn't have a secure outside space for pets, but you just don't have the space at Stable Cottage. I will pass on your comments with regards to the WiFi. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Cottage in excellent location and has private parking which is a bonus."

Unfortunately the furnishings are a little tired and need replacing. The bed has two mattresses on it which was a little strange. As mention in other reviews there is a problem with wood lice and although all dead it is not nice to see. The lady who manages the cottage is excellent. Always available to help and give advice on best places to eat.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Stable Cottage. It's lovely to hear how much you enjoyed the cottage and location. I will speak to the HK with regards to the Woodlice, but unfortunately being a very old stone property in the country, you will always get the old little visitor. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay and enjoyed every minute of it."

Personally I think that the kitchen utensils should be updated especially the frying pan because it is really old. Plus the knives are forks and plates need updating. We also noticed all the wood lice around the property. Other than that it is a fantastic cottage and a beautiful location.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a feedback, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay and will forward your comments to the owner. Looking forward to welcoming you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Quiet location with parking."

The building does have a wood lice problem, possibly from the beams. A few basics missing….ordinary knives (only steak knives) and a potato peeler should be obtained. Nice walks from the cottage and two pubs around the corner. A great location for southern Cotswolds, Bath and even Bristol. Castle Combe is of course a gem and this cottage is off the busy village and others parking alongside, although the parking area needs some attention, vey low cars could ground.

Thank you for your feedback. There is a woodlice problem at the cottage which is regularly treated with pet-friendly products. Your points for improvement have been taken on board and are very much appreciated. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a lovely position and is very pretty."

The bed was very uncomfortable as was the sofa. There is no garden which needs to be made clear in the description especially as the cottage is advertised as suitable for dogs. There is a place to sit on the road front but you have to carry the table and chairs through the cottage each time you want to sit outside. There are several small things that could be done such as put up a hook in the bathroom as there is nowhere to hang a dressing gown; provide more than the absolute minimum of crockery and glasses. Also there were no recycling facilities. We returned home early.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your stay at Stable Cottage. I'm very sorry to hear that the cottage did not meet your expectations and will forward your ideas for improvement on to the owner. Property Owner

    1. it lacks enough information about the surrounding area i.e. things to do , places to visit ect 2. the tv system. said to turn on tv ok then make sure the sky box is displaying a green light , there is NO sky box just freeview via the ariel. ok 3. no information about the underfloor heating or how to turn on the radiator in the bathroom. after some investigating I discover you have to remove the front cover of the boiler and flick a switch 4. could not contact anyone NO PHONE SIGNAL IN THAT AREA. 5. NOT really suitable for winter time, too many draughts around door and windows. 6. the cottage needs sealing better to prevent wood lice getting in. 7. could benefit with a washing machine.

It's location was amazing, down a very quiet road less than a 2 minute walk in to the centre of the village. The cottage itself was fantastic. Very clean, comfortable and it was equipt with everything you would need for a break away. The owner was also lovely, leaving us chocolates on arrival and popping down during the week to check everything was OK and if there was anything she could do for us. We will definitely be staying again.

  • "Castle Combe, which is an ancient little Wiltshire Hamlet lying in the middle of a small luscious green valley surrounded by high tree-covered Limestone hills; as one drives down into the valley it is like driving through a Hansel and Gretel type of enchanted forest."

This ancient Hamlet was once a busy marketing community though little of its trading history remains visible today. If you enjoy a self catering holiday, then for an extremely pleasant get-away you could not do better that a stay at ‘Stable Cottage’; it is nestled away at the end of the Hamlet and access is gained by passing under a square topped archway. Driving through the archway is like you have been given permission to pass through someone’s house; a sharp left hand bend and there sits Stable Cottage on your right. It is well appointed; an excellent induction heating cooker seems out of place in this centuries old Hamlet. A big fridge-freezer stands next to the cooker and the kitchen is well fitted with good storage; the crockery is wonderful Portmerion plates and Dunoon mugs are going to make you want to buy your own when you get home. The lounge is wonderful, a great TV if you want it and possibly the largest selection of DVD’s I have ever seen if you want to just relax in the evening, if not there is a wide range of books to read. The bed is comfortable, and the whole cottage has under-floor heating with the added comfort of an electric coal-fire type heater which fits well into the surrounds. The bathroom has a wonderful washbasin and great shower, with plenty of mirrors. I highly recommend a holiday at Stable Cottage.

  • "Advertised as 5 star accommodation , definitely not."

The cottage is very tired and needs the walls and the woodwork painting and the carpet replacing. Facilities include a washing machine but there was not one. The cutlery needs replacing as they are broken items and the kitchen glasses were chipped. VHS video tapes on the shelves. The welcome pack information booklet tells the story. All the information leaflets were printed in 2011 which says it all, regarding the LACK OF UP KEEP of Stable Cottage. The icing on the cake is that the cottage IS over run with WOOD LICE ........ EVERYDAY they can be seen scurrying on the carpet , climbing the curtains , on the kitchen work surface and in the bathroom. If you want to spend your holiday squashing WOOD LICE stay at Stable Cottage. !!!

  • "Excellent accommodation and very well equipped."

The T.V. was a bit dated but perfectly manageable. We had a very pleasurable stay, if we were to complain about anything it would be that on our last evening at midnight a car arrived and parked outside our bedroom window . It was stated that we had the one and only parking space for this cottage. They were very noisy but worse still left at 3am, were even noisier than earlier, chatting, laughing and banging the car doors. Therefore it was a poor nights sleep before driving home.
