  • “Firstly let me tell you the things that did not meet out expectations.”

The bed was very old and very uncomfortable this needs replacing urgently. The bed linen was of a bad standard. We went out to purchase new pillows and pillow cases as the ones in the cottage where of very poor standard they didn't have a pillow protectors, this should be standard, the pillows where very brown and stained. I slept on the first night with a bath towel over my pillow as I was appalled by the pillows and would not have felt happy sleeping directly next to the pillows. ...

I am aware that the cottage is very old and I would expect some woodlice but as you walked across the floor you were constantly stepping on them, not a nice feeling. The good points where the location of the cottage the village is excellent with 2 very good pubs. Good food and nice staff. The housekeeping lady was extremely nice but we had no way of contacting her whilst in the cottage as you don't have WiFi or a signal to call. This should be sorted with the cottage having its own WiFi available. The cottage is is a good location for Bath and the surrounding areas. We visited 2 National trust houses, Longleat house and Safari park and Cheddar Gorge which where all exceptional. There isn't a information pack about the cottage its self and I feel this would be an advantage as we were expecting an outside seating area, this was mentioned in the description, but apparently after asking the housekeeper the chairs and tables are to be used outside the front of the cottage. I usually sit outside in the mornings to have a cuppa but obviously this was not possible to sit in the small lane. In all we enjoyed out stay in the cottage and would recommend the area but sadly not that particular cottage. Perhaps if a small amount of updating would be taken on this would be a 5 star.

The property

Stable Cottage has the fortune of being situated in one of the most unique, picturesque and pretty villages in the Cotswolds - Castle Combe.

They really don't come much better than this - even in the poor rain!

Tucked down a very quiet lane that is just off the village 'centre' and no more than 40 seconds from two country pubs, this little beauty is gem of a holiday retreat.

Inside the cottage is open plan and furnished in a simple attractive style the kitchen is well equipped and modern, the living area very comfortable and warm and bedroom has large comfortable bed.

It may be simple but it is lovely and very charming.

Formerly a 17th Century stable, this barn has been carefully converted and yet retains all the character and feel of the original building, including a massive oak beam between the lounge and bedroom, the vaulted ceiling and thick stone walls. As you would expect in a village as beautiful as this, there are endless walks in all directions, and as well as the pubs there is also a tried and tested tea room which serves a classic afternoon tea!

Without doubt a classic country cottage, at an attractive price, but in the finest village in the area.

This is a must see village!
