  • "The owners of the property were close at hand, and we found them to be lovely people - so friendly, kind, helpful and very courteous."

The immediate vicinity of the property was so peaceful and restful. It was lovely to watch the daily routine of a dairy farm which also breeds and trains race horses. Again, this had a very calming and restful effect. We felt spoiled for choice of delightful restaurants and pubs, all of which served superb food!

  • "Owners were available on arrival and very friendly as were the dogs."

Property was immaculate, comfortable and had everything we required. Was lovely to see the horses each morning and they welcomed us home in the evening. Owners happy to tell us about the local area and although the weather wasnt great we did manage a meal by the river and didnt get wet which is a bonus. The canal locks were a real bonus for us as was BNath and Trowbridge. We would love to return. Elaine & John Alexander

About the location

Bradford-on-Avon 4 miles; Frome 5; Trowbridge 5; Bath 10 miles.

The attractive village of Rode sits on the Somerset side of the Wiltshire/Somerset border, and was once well known for its connections with brewing and the woollen industry, with several mills still dotted alongside the River Frome. In the 19th century, the village was the scene of an infamous murder, which inspired the book and TV film of The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. Today it offers a tranquil, quintessential village setting with two pubs, a useful Post Office and store, and lovely walks into the surrounding countryside, along the nearby Macmillan Way. An easy drive takes you to the delightful, historic town of Bradford-on-Avon, from where you can take boat trips along the Kennet and Avon Canal, or explore the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Bath. A little further afield, a trip to Wells Cathedral, mystical Glastonbury or the ethereal caves at Cheddar and Wookey Hole will not disappoint. Rode offers visitors a convenient and charming holiday base, at any time of year.
