  • "A gorgeous cottage - spotlessly clean, extremely well appointed, and with an exceptional welcome pack."

The location is away from it all, but the pub is within easy walking distance down the tranquil canal towpath. The local area has plenty to see and do, a lovely part of the country. Highly recommended!

  • "The Cottage was absolutely beautiful!"

The welcome hamper was such a nice touch and above and beyond what you would expect. The kitchen was well equipped again above and beyond what we have experienced during stays in other cottages. It was very clean and well looked after. Sarah was such a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome. The location was great for us as a family with young children to access attractions such as Paultons park and Longleat Safari park. We would most definitely stay again and recommend to others. Best place we've ever stayed ☺️

The kitchen especially was very well equipped. I would like to say that our stay in the cottage was extra special due to the lady, Sarah who owned it. She was very kind and nothing was too much trouble. She made us feel very welcome and although she lived next door, she respected our privacy.A very enjoyable week !!

  • "Sarah has made this cottage into a little oasis ."

She has created a screen at the edge of the courtyard that makes it private and quiet . A lovely place to sit and watch the bats on a summers evening. The cottage was spotless ,thoughtfully decorated with all modern facilities . Bedroom were light and airy .The bathroom has underfloor heating , which along with the central heating meant that we were warm and cosy despite the British weather. The beds were comfy and mattresses felt brand new .The welcome package that Sarah leaves for guests was most appreciated . The turning into the cottage needs a long signal but Sarah has even cut down the grass verge to make entry and exit as safe as possible . The road is very fast so allow plenty of time for turning but it's not particularly busy so we never had a problem.Overall a delightful cottage and host.

  • "Rusty Lane is by far the best house we have ever rented."

And Sarah is a very lovely host! She lives next door and is there when you need her, but gives you all the privacy you want if not. We visited a few NT houses in the area and made some beautiful walks along the canal (of which Sarah told us about) with lots of boats sailing in and out of the locks. We couldn’t have been more lucky to spend the holidays over Christmas and New Years in Rusty Lane and we promised Sarah we will definitely come back again.

  • "Rusty Lane is a lovely and well equipped cottage."

Ideal for sightseeing, walking and good local pubs within walking distance (2 miles approx). A generous hamper on arrival was unexpected. Sarah the owner was on hand for tips on places to go and was very friendly. When we booked this cottage Sykes web site stated 2 bathrooms, as we were going with another couple for the first few days this was perfect. But on arrival there was only one. Disappointed I contacted Sykes who very kindly and quickly compensated me for their error. Such good customer service should be noted. We have now had six cottage breaks with Sykes and shall continue to do so.

  • "A lovely cottage in an ideal location for visiting our family in Devizes."

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to returning at a future date. We like to have written directions to use in conjunction with satnav, but please could the directions be re-written. At present they start from King Street, but do not explain that King Street is in Melksham. The farm entrance, which is directly off the A365, is hard to find. The name sign on the telegraph post is not easy to spot.

  • "This cottage far exceeded our expectations."

It was very stylish and clean and the best equipped cottage we have been to. The owners had thought of everything and left a generous hamper for us which was most welcome after a difficult journey. The area was beautiful also so we will definitely be returning. We arrived in the dark so struggled to see the entrance from the road. So for future visitors once you see the sign to the Barge Inn, you continue straight on and there is a red brick house on the left and then you immediately indicate to turn right into Rusty Farm just after.

  • "Rusty Lane Cottage is superb, one of the very best cottages we have stayed in."

It is beautifully furnished with lots of thought and finishing touches and a generous welcome pack. It's in a great location with a good pub not far away. We look forward to returning. Absolutely top marks for the cottage and also ease of booking with Sykes, the first time we have used a national company in 25 years having always used local agencies before. However the directions where extremely poor and not accurate at all and the worst we have ever received to the point where we had to change our plans that first evening after arriving much later than planned. Sykes Cottages need to address this.

  • "Directions to the cottage were poor."

We found it difficult to find. Biggest problem was that I was not given the name of the owner or a telephone number to contact her. This would have enabled us to contact her and to erase our anxieties at not being able to find the cottage. I see this as a reason not to book with Sykes but to look at other agents.

Sarah was great and nothing was too much trouble, but not invasive. We had a fun filled week with visits to Bath (Roman Baths worth a visit), Longleat (A brilliant full day be careful of the monkeys), Glastonbury and a drive to Durdle Door. We also visited The Barge Inn and the Three Magpies, we did prefer the food at Three Magpies not sure if it was the hearty portions or we just caught the Barge Inn on an off day the food was ok. We have recommended and hope to return.
