My Springer was surprisingly settled after his trauma of our house move. Great Value! Thank you.

  • "Absolutely fantastic little place, full of character and felt spacious inside."

There was everything we could possibly need, including a delightful surprise of a few things to get us started on our break. The property was quiet, despite being near to roads and a roundabout, and was warm and cosy during the cold weather that accompanied our stay. Added bonus - the hot water is almost volcanic! Perfect for a soak in the tub after exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. The hosts are very helpful by phone or text should you need anything but allow you to enjoy the peace undisturbed. Would highly recommend - ideal as a base for exploring or just as a romantic getaway.

Many thanks Gailyn for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay despite the cold weather. We really hope that you will return one day! Kind regards Simon and Alison Property Owner

Super comfy bed, everything you could possibly need. We arrived late, but the hosts had been in contact and made sure everything was lit and warm. It was good value for money and situated in a very beautiful area. Also worth saying that the property is truly dog friendly with plenty of places nearby to exercise your dog.

Thank you so much Trevor for leaving such lovely feedback about our Old Cart Shed. We are pleased to hear you were able to enjoy the property and all it has to offer. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future! Kind regards, Alison and Simon Property Owner

  • "Although it was a nice stay the owners ought to think about replacing the washer with a washer/dryer as the radiators could not be used to help dry clothes that took 2/3 days to dry as there was only convector heaters that could only be put on for 2 hours when out for the day so the clothes were still wet when we came home."

Also there is 2 TVs in the property neither are smart nor even have Freeview so not only can you not use wireless features you can't stream anything from your phone to either set, the TVs must be over 13 years old as smart TVs/ Freeview have been out over 13 years this was the most disappointing aspect of the holiday as we don't go out a night time. We ended up having to watch stuff on our phones which was not as good as watching on the TV they need to bring at least 1 TV up to date or failing that say in the listing that the TVs are not smart and dont stream content. We are not all pensioners uninterested in what TV has what features !! Also left a quarter bottle of milk?

Thank you for your feedback; we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay despite it probably being the wettest week of the year! We are however saddened to read the review that you left. As you can see from previous feedback we always score very highly. Had you raised any concerns to us during your stay we would have been more than happy to assist you in anything that you may have required. We could have helped dry out your wet clothes and happily popped round to help explain how to view our TVs that show all the freeview channels. We accept that we don't have smart TVs but could have lent you our amazon firestick or DVDs from our own collection. We have found that a lot of guests who need to stream bring a cable to connect to the TV however we have taken on board your suggestion and will look to replace them with smart TVs in the future. We are sorry that you didn't appreciate our small amount of milk but we do provide a 'welcome pack' which includes tea, coffee, milk, chocolates, dishwasher tablets, a washing machine laundry sachet, washing up liquid, hand soap, toilet rolls, kitchen roll and other condiments to help start off your holiday. We are fortunate in having a small supermarket literally across the road for anything you may need. kind regards, Alison and Simon Property Owner

It is very well equipped. The owner had left us a few eggs and milk and there was tea and coffee in cupboard, together with a few treats for our dog, dog bowls and dog towels too. We did not meet the owner, but did receive a friendly text to welcome us. There is a comprehensive folder containing useful information of places to eat etc. Although we did not sit in it very long, there is a very small enclosed garden, which is quite sunny. There is a garage, shop and pharmacy just across the road and, within 5 minutes walking distance a pub. (Does not serve food). All in all a homely little cottage and an ideal base to discover Wiltshire. We would not hesitate to return.

All within walking distance from the cottage, approx 5- 10 mins ( petrol and shop and chemists over the road from cottage ) . The driveway of the cottage was actually off the mini island, which made it ideal for our daily trips as the 3 roads from the island led to all major routes.

  • "I've never used Sykes before and it was all so easy!"

! The listing was easy to understand and comprehensive. It was a very last minute booking over the busy Easter period so i needed to phone in - the girl who took my phone call was very helpful and really nice. The Old Cart shed was cosy and warm upon arrival with a great welcome pack of eggs, milk, biscuits, tea, coffee etc. It had everything you could need ie every faculty like wifi, hair dryer, millions of tv channels and even dog bowl with treats. Also lots of local information, (i highly recommend the Indian across the road.) We love Avebury Stone Circle and that area which was only a 20 minute drive. Allison and Simon the owners were so attentive but also gave you absolute privacy and were really lovely people. Highly recommend Skyes and the Old Cart Shed in Lyneham.

It manages to be both spacious and cosy. We had a wonderful relaxed new year there. It's a short drive from Royal Wotton Basset and the villiage of Avebury where we saw the amazing 4000+ yeras old stone circles. The owners were friendly and helpful and even left us a little new years gift even though we didnt se them the whole weekend we knew they'd be there if needed. There were shopsm takeaways and things to do just a short walk away too. We didn't want to leave, it's a perfect little living space.

Plenty of local amenities within walking distance, the enclosed garden is perfect for sitting with a drink and relaxing and the walk along Farthing Lane is brilliant for the dogs and owners to stretch their legs and soak up the countryside. The Cottage itself exceeds expectations in all respects, clean, well laid out, homely and well equipped. The owners are lovely and always on hand to help; all in all the perfect break.

  • "I have never felt compelled to write a review before but The Old Cart Shed was fantastic."

It was exceptionally clean (and I am a clean freak). It was very, very well resourced and private. It had a beautiful outdoor area where you could sit in peace. Inside was warm and comfortable with lamps and under cabinet lighting in the kitchen. The shower although attached to the taps in the bath was very powerful. There was plenty of storage room and cupboard space. The owner met us after calling him as it was quite difficult to find. He was very helpful and did not disturb us at all over the weekend. I would definitely recommend and return. The pub over the road is quite run down and closes early if there are not many people in. The Curry house over the road is great, one of the best curry's I have had in a long. time.

There many good walks in the area with good views and easy parking. Talking of parking it was excellent at the cottage as the car could be parked right outside the door just right for packing and unpacking when it is raining. We enjoyed our visit and especially appreciated the way the dog had his bowl and towels waiting for him.

About the location

LYNEHAM

Royal Wootton Bassett 4 miles; Calne 6; Chippenham 9.5 miles.

The large village of Lyneham is situated at the southern end of the Cotswold Hills, in rural northern Wiltshire, close to the border with Gloucestershire. Lyneham is probably best remembered as the base of the RAF’s Hercules fleet; the base was closed in 2012 and now hosts a Defence Training College. The village is well served by local businesses, including restaurants, pubs and shops, whilst the larger community of Royal Wootton Bassett is just 4 miles away. The friendly market town of Wootton Bassett was granted Royal patronage in 2011, due to its link with the repatriation of military personnel who sadly lost their lives serving their country overseas. It boasts a weekly market and also offers a good selection of local shops and inns, and provides an ideal touring base from which to explore the attractions of Wiltshire and beyond. The town is close to the historic Lydiard Park, Bowood and Longleat, with the ancient sites of Avebury and Stonehenge nearby. Visit the charming town of Malmesbury and the Cotswold Water Park, and with the historic cities of Bath, Oxford and Salisbury all easily accessible, makes Lyneham an ideal base at any time of the year.
