  • "Crooked Well cottage is delightful, comfortable, clean and cosy."

It is situated within easy walking distance of the Timsbury village shops. The cottage is very well equipped . The owner has provided a wealth of helpful information as well as interesting family history concerning Crooked Well. High quality bedding and towels are provided as well as toiletries and kitchen cleaning products. Timsbury is within easy distance of Bath, Wells and the lovely Chew Magna Lake. The owner endeavoured to make our visit as welcoming as possible and even made us a delicious fruit cake. I highly recommend Crooked Well for a happy holiday.

Our host put up Christmas decorations which made it feel very festive for our Christmas week stay. The cottage has a very well equipped kitchen, which was a bonus for cooking our Christmas dinner. Although the cottage is situated in a new housing estate (which we were not expecting) it was a quiet location, within a short walk to a good pub, excellent fish and chip shop, and local supermarket.

Thank you for your feedback. The houses in Homefield were erected between 1994-96, the cottage was first built in the 1840s! Property Owner

We were grateful for the warm welcome, cake and helpful literature supplied by the owner, including lots of ideas for places to visit. Timsbury offers many walks around the village and its interesting & picturesque surroundings and is perfectly located to explore North Somerset and the cities of Bath, Bristol & Wells.

Many thanks for your kind review; I do appreciate you taking the time and trouble to write this. I am pleased that you felt at home. There certainly is no shortage of places to visit in our lovely part of what we always think of as Somerset, as you have found. Property Owner

  • "A lovely old cottage with large gardens and good parking."

Minor maintenance issues which the owner is aware of and looking to correct. With 2ft thick walls and nothing being square we were nevertheless quite cosy and enjoyed our stay very much. Kitchen well equipped and the welcome tray with homemade cake a nice surprise.

Thank you for your interesting review, also for your tolerance of the frightful noise made by the shower door I explained about to you. As you know, it is a brand new shower, but the door hinges were creaking badly and the plumber's attempt to rectify this with WD 40 failed. He and my son have taken the doors off and refitted them again, but this has not solved the problem and new hinges have been ordered. We think someone knocked the pipe connector under the sink causing the drips, now sorted. Hopefully all will be well for a couple of weeks now, but I have learnt one can never pride oneself that everything is in good order, because accidents seem to happen when some guests have stayed! I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday, thank you for booking my cottage. Property Owner

It's in the perfect spot to explore North Somerset and nearby counties. Beautiful Bath is easily reached from the park and ride relatively close by and there is much to see in Wells and Bristol - only a short drive away. The surrounding area of Timsbury also has some lovely walks. The cottage has all the facilities needed and is immaculately kept. It's cosy, comfortable and the homemade cake on arrival was delicious. Many thanks

Such a lovely review, thank you so much. I do appreciate you taking the trouble to write this, as I have been having lovely comments in my guest book but hardly any reviews. It was also lovely to meet you upon arrival, and my family also said that they had enjoyed meeting you too during your week. My late husband built the well over the hole in the ground in 1979, but the well itself was closed by a concrete slab, which I discovered from Harry Patch's wonderful book, "The Last Fighting Tommy", was how the wells were prevented from being used once mains water was available. However, 'Crooked Well' actually relates to the home of my great-grandparents in Kington, Herefordshire. My mother said they were the happiest couple you could ever meet and when she retired, her home was to be called Crooked Well, so she was a bit put out when she discovered there really was a well in her garden! Very pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and interesting to hear that you liked the china! I have always had a love of china, thanks to my Mother and my Grandmother, although of course my family think that's old fashioned and only mugs are needed, but I couldn't resist putting a bone china set in the cottage. It was nice to know the owners family were nearby, should we need them. The local fish and chip shop was superb, with the best cod and chips we've ever had! • "The house was very overlooked by other houses as it was in the middle of a modern housing estate, despite appearing old on the website."

To be fair it was very comfortable, in a great spot for touring and we had a great week, however, there were building works going on next door which meant that we were woken up by a cement mixer every day. It was reasonably priced and we had everything we needed, but it wasn't exactly what we expected when we booked it.

I am so sorry: the builders said they would try to be considerate and delay their morning start time with machinery, not working on the Saturday to give you a restful weekend. It was unfortunate that all the tradesmen appear to have worked this week due to being held back because of delays in delivery of materials. As described on the website, the cottage is in the very centre of the village but normally visitors are surprised at how quiet it is! I understand that an apology was made to you. I think one expects buildings to surround a centre village property, rather than a countryside setting, but the close proximity to the shops, pharmacy, pub Take-Away, playground etc. make it very convenient. The cottage is old, built in 1843, renovated first by my parents for their retirement in 1973. Despite being in the centre of the village it was surrounded by fields, but development in such a location was inevitable and Homefield is a cul de sac of sought after expensive detached houses. I can only apologise that it was not the “peaceful haven” described by some guests. Property Owner

So sorry that the beds weren't comfortable for you, the first guests ever to not be suited to them: they are 'medium' in firmness as that seemed the best option to try to ensure they are comfortable for the guests, given that everyone has different preferences. • "The house is fine, however."

.. We had to make some space in Cupboards for our food, we also moved some China cups out of reach of our children. When we left we received a message from the owner saying things were missing, we rang her straight up and explained they had been moved and are in a different cupboard, she had a very accusatory tone to my wife insinuating we had stolen the items. This upset my wife. A few days later we had a text saying the items had been found in another cupboard. A real shame to our stay - on this basis I cannot recommend the cottage - you may be accused of stealing cake tins. (My advice to the owner would be if such items are so close to your heart please replace things with items less valuable, and please accept that things may get moved, but insinuating theft is poor)

“Thank you for your help, located china and tins in far upper cupboard over microwave. That cupboard had looked unchanged when I opened the first door and saw usual storage containers, so should have checked the second door, the only one I didn’t look in! I had apologised to the new guests for lack of storage tins and said they were bound to find them somewhere I’d missed. Take care, kind regards, Ann”. That’s the text I sent when the items were located. Theft? It did not occur to me that they would think that. We’d had pleasant 'phone conversations previously. Why ever would they want storage tins and china cups? When they said they hadn’t taken them away, I laughed and said I did not think for one minute that they would have done, just so many things had been moved, I was embarrassed to send a text for help because I try to clean thoroughly from top to bottom, However if they truly believe I was accusing them of theft of cake tins and china then accept my sincere apology. The cups are on the top larder shelf because they are spares. They explained that their daughter reorganised the cupboards, that’s fine, everything is there for guests to use, and make themselves at home, nothing is precious. I am sorry if this put a dampener on their holiday experience after they wrote a lovely guest book review saying how much the family had enjoyed their holiday. Property Owner
