  • “Excellent idea to have the magnetic fly nets as there were lots of flies on the farm.”

    Cottage was very bright and airy with lots of space to spread out. Noticed that a washing machine was listed but wasn't there. Also, the bedrooms had skylights without blinds which woke us up early! These are small quibbles in what was a very enjoyable week's break.

Oxen Cottage is located on Nables Farm, an award-winning organic farm on the edge of Upper Seagry, only six miles from the ancient town of Malmesbury.

The farm is situated at the bottom of a long winding driveway, tucked away in a small valley that removes you from the hustle and bustle of modern life, where peace and quiet awaits you in abundance.

The cottage has been beautifully renovated and seamlessly incorporates a stylish contemporary design with original features such as vaulted ceilings and exposed oak beams throughout, making a comfortable base for groups of families, friends and those alike.

This two-bedroom single-story cottage is positioned at the heart of the owner’s organic farm adjacent to the farmyard that captivates the quintessential image of rural farming life.

Enter into the heart of the home, the open-plan living space, which is flooded with natural daylight with floor to ceiling windows running the length of the room along with large French doors opening right out onto the farmyard, making a tranquil spot to enjoy the company of your friends and family.

Within the kitchen, the impressive Rangemaster cooker takes centre stage before all of the other quality appliances to assist you in cooking up family-favourite dishes, as well as a wine fridge to ensure that any celebrations are well catered for.

The kitchen wraps itself around the painted pine table that can accommodate four before leading on to the sitting area, where the plush seating arrangement invites you in to unwind in front of the TV, the beautiful fabrics, cushions and rugs adding to the sense of relaxation and comfort.

Malmesbury 5 Miles; Chippenham 6 miles

The small North Wiltshire village of Upper Seagry is found in superb countryside only five miles north of the bustling market town of Chippenham, and six miles from the ancient town of Malmesbury. Close to the southern end of The Cotswolds, this rural location provides a great base from which to explore this fascinating area. There are ample footpaths and bridleways nearby, a visit to Malmesbury - with its 12th century Benedictine Abbey - is a must, whilst a trip to the Cotswold Water Park is a real treat. Westobirt Arboretum, with its extensive collection of trees and shrubs is not to be missed. Within an easy drive can be found the picturesque village of Castle Combe, also well known for its car racing track, and the quaint National Trust village of Lacock, used as the setting for the BBC TV serial Cranford. The impressive Roman city of Bath, Bowood House, and the ancient stone circle at Avebury are also easily accessible. This really is an excellent base for a relaxing and interesting break at any time of the year.
