"It was a beautiful cottage."
Tastefully decorated, very comfortable, clean and fully equipped. A beautiful quiet area with lovely surroundings although it is only a few minutes from the M4. Very well situated. We had a lovely weekend stay and will go again, hopefully for longer.
Hi Lindsey. Thank for you the review. So glad you had a lovely stay in the barn that worked well for your exploration in the area. See you next time. Martin. Property Owner
"Every thing was very nice , we all enjoyed our stay, and a nice surprise with the free rang eggs."
Thanks Sharon for staying on the farm with us. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Many thanks. Martin Property Owner

Very good holiday property. We had a very nice time.
Hi Marion. It was a real pleasure having you and your sisters stay on the farm. I’m glad you enjoyed your time with us and made the most of your time in the area. Many thanks for your parting gift. A real joy. Martin Property Owner
"We had a lovely week stay at Oxen Cottage."
It is in an ideal location to explore the surrounding area - we went to Glastonbury, Bath, Wells, Stonehenge and Iford Manor and Gardens was an absolute delight. The cottage is well equipped and really comfy. We will be back.
Hi Rob. Thank you for the review. Glad to read you had a nice holiday and made the most of the local area. See you again, Martin. Property Owner
"It a very charming, comfortable and well furnished cottage with well fitted modern bathrooms."
It was spacious for a holiday property. A couple of minor tweaks would improve it: blinds on the bedroom Velux windows and clearer signage to each of the properties. It's very well located for the Cotswolds, Bath and other parts of Wiltshire
Hello Kai, Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed exploring the local area and were comfortable back at base camp. Property Owner
"We had a lovely stay."
Relaxing stay at Oxen Cottage . the cottage house is comfortable with comfy beds, I suggest maybe some fryer saucepan need to replace everything else you could want. Really enjoyed it.
Hi Sandra, Thank you for your review and your feedback Hope to see you again. Martin Property Owner
"Beautiful bungalow, very spacious and comfortable."
Although on a working farm, this didn’t affect our enjoyment of the surroundings, no nasty smells or early morning noises! Only a couple of gripes, some of the lights and the rechargeable torch weren’t working, and the ovens were long overdue a good clean. The rest of the accommodation and surrounding yard were very clean and tidy. We enjoyed our stay at Oxen Cottage even if the weather was not very kind to us!
Hi Susan. Many thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed the property and hope the weather at least gave you brief chances to explore beyond the farm gate? I shall make note in regards to the cooker as periodically they require more than a weekly wipe round. Hope to see you again. Martin Property Owner
"My family, & I stayed at Oxen cottage, Nables Farm, over the festive period."
The cottage is absolutely beautifully presented, & the owner Martin, was so accommodating with nothing being to much trouble. A real gem located in Wiltshire’s, stunning countryside. Thank you for helping to make our family Christmas so special. Mrs T Evans, & family.
Thank you Toni - Was a pleasure to host Christmas for you and your family on the farm. Hope your extension if progressing well? If not, you know where we are if you need to escape again. Martin Property Owner
"You have a fantastic little holiday cottage there."
Very happy with our stay. The weather could have been kinder but that's the UK in December I guess! Keep up the excellent work. I would stay again and will be recommending to friends and family. Thanks!!
Thank you Luke for the positive praise. We look forward to seeing you again. Martin Property Owner
"A lovely cottage set on a farm in a valley, we enjoyed staying there."
I enjoyed walking around the farm with Charlie my Jack Russel. I would strongly recommend staying there.
Hi Roger - Thank you for the review. Hope Charlie enjoyed his holiday as well? See you again, Maritn Property Owner
"Overall this is a lovely cottage."
Comfortable, spacious, clean and quite well equipped. Inside is gorgeous although a couple of minor observations - the TV must be 20 years old. It's not a smart TV so couldn't log into any of my digital services which means a very limited offering of channels. The picture isn't great either. The information posted on the wall in the hall is completely out of date as it says that there is no internet in Oxen cottage. We found a router in the kitchen but because of the information sheet and the fact there was no ethernet cable or password on the back we didn't believe we had internet. We couldn't contact the owner so contacted Sykes. The owner came back to us next day to say there is indeed internet but the password was on the bottom of the router. Once connected the internet is very good and reasonably fast but would have been good to have up to date info in the first place. In fairness the owner wasn't very well at the time we visited. The other thing is the garden furniture - it is literally falling apart and very old/uncomfortable. Which is a pity given that the other properties all have really lovely smart modern garden furniture. These are only minor things though and overall we had a great time. The cottage is generally lovely and the farm is beautiful. The bed linen and towels are spotless and of good quality and everything in the cottage with the exception of the wine fridge works. Not sure why other people have complained about flies - the weather was very hot when we were there and we had no particular problem with flies or indeed any farm smells. They did provide a fly spray and some very good fly screens on the french doors which may have helped? We would especially recommend The New Inn in Upper Seagry. We had Sunday lunch there which was divine (you need to book but they are very good with e-mail) and we ate there again on the Friday night which was fabulous. It's very much a "real" pub used mainly by locals and it really is lovely.
Hello Diane, Many thanks for your constructive feedback. I am pleased to read that you found the cottage lovely, the farm beautiful and the local pub got a tick in the right box also. There are some elements to your review that do disappoint but also need some clarification for readers. I accept your point that the TV is not entirely up to date, it is however flat screen with full freeview channels available. I often have to ask myself when the right time is to change items that aren’t broken and still serve the purpose they're intended for. However, I shall consider updating the TV although technology is hard to keep up with these days. The garden furniture is 3 years old, is all weather rattan material and I can see no reason why you feel it is falling apart and old? Oxen cottage is our entry level cottage and yes, other larger more premium properties on the farm do have furniture suitable for the pricing of the property. However, we never detract from quality regardless of price. Lastly, the internet; The general information on the wall as you enter is very broad to cover all aspects of the property and farm in general. Oxen Cottage is the last to be connected to the internet relatively recently. The cottage is advertised as having internet, the cottage has internet and the flashing router that sits prominently on the kitchen counter is clear to see even if that small aspect on the information sheet is dated. You stayed whilst i was suffering with covid hence keeping a low profile. You called and left a voice message; I returned that call within 5 minutes with no answer and your phone does not offer a voice mail service so I followed up with a text message all within 5 minutes of your call. The following day sykes called to ask about the internet and they too tried to return your call but could not get through. I then tried calling the secondary number on your booking, again with no answer and no voice mail service and I followed up with a further text message which you received, and the situation was resolved. I feel that as hosts and given the circumstances we did all we could in a swift and professional manner. That said, you clearly had a lovely time here with beautiful weather baring the couple of niggles mentioned. You are certainly welcome as always to return and we'd be happy to see you. "Many thanks for a great few days."
The cottage is beautiful, clean and very comfortable. Thanks also for the eggs. They were delicious.
Hello Rosemary. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay. It was lovely to have you stay along with your gorgeous dog! I agree with your comments on the eggs - although I am biased ;-). If you’re tempted to holiday in the area again please get in touch. 3 days wasn’t long enough! Martin. Property Owner
"Amazing holiday fantastic accommodation."
... loved by all...the owner martin is so lovely and accommodating ... Will definitely be going back again soon
Hi Dawn, Many thanks for your review and glad you have already been in touch to secure your next holiday with us. See you soon, Martin Property Owner
Clean, modern we couldn't fault it at all. Situated in a very quiet location on a working farm. Everything on one level, perfect for my mum who in 88 years old. We would definitely go back again. Only 6 miles from Chippenham and Malmesbury in the opposite direction .
Hello David. Many thanks for your review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your time with us and the layout was practical for your mum. Hope to meet again sometime soon. Martin Property Owner
"A lovely barn, especially to look at and with good quality fixtures and fittings but sadly so many little issues."
Never saw the owner to provide any feedback directly sadly otherwise we would have done that instead of leaving it on here, strange that other reviews mentioned about a warm welcome. We were very sad to discover the premises appeared to not have been cleaned upon arrival and there was even someone else's breakfast toast left under the grill, dirty cutlery in the drawer that we had to clean before using, a pair of tights/leggings that had been wet and left under the sink and absolutely stunk so much so that we ended up washing the cupboard and bin out to get rid of the smell. Lots of dirt under the twin beds that we found when we tried to put them together for a kingsize as described. All these cleaning issues were as if the premises had not been cleaned before we got there after the last visitors so if a specialist cleaning contractor is being used then they shouldn't be getting paid! Lots of high level big cobwebs and dust hanging down all over especially over the twin beds. The next problem was flies flies flies. Yes we were on a farm but its February and every time we left the property we sprayed the fly spray and came back to lots of dead flies but also lots more live flies but no idea where they were coming from but every room had lots of them. A simple welcome pack would be great telling people how to use the heating, cooker range, fire and other equipment normally found in other holiday cottages. It would also be great to have a side table for the chair and also an extra chair in the living room as 4 adults is a bit of a squash on the current sofa and single chair unless they are all beanpoles and sit upright so much so one of our party ended up sitting on the floor. Lighting - half of the row of high level lights don't work, reviews say reported before so perhaps the owners don't want them working. In that case just remove them. Finally the outbuilding roof right opposite is coming off and banged all day and all night in the wind and sadly kept us awake. We left a voicemail message for the owner as we couldn't get hold of them but nothing was addressed nor no phone calls back. Its a real shame all these points as the place has the potential to be great but a lack of contact from the owners and a lack of cleaning and attention to detail - all these things could be rectified easily. Also a lot of them were reported either on the reviews or in the visitor book in the cottage so the owners do know about all of these things.
Hello. I'm sorry to hear about your arrival, I will speak to the cleaning team and make sure this does not happen again. We will also increase the supplies in the property to deal with flies, as you said, it is a farm. We have not had a welcome pack due to covid but will look to reintroduce this in the near future. That said, there are basic information in regards to the farm, heating and hot water etc laminated on the wall as you enter. Sadly you visited us during a once in a generation storm with wind speeds exceeding 80mph. Fortunately the cottages got through without damage however that can’t be said for one of our chickens sheds where the roof blew off. I’m sure you’d understand this took our attention as appose to fixing part of a roof that was blowing in the wind in an adjacent outbuilding. We are always keen to act on the properties with feedback when we receive them. Although the cottage has been ticking along nicely with the furniture in situ for a number of years now we have acted on both yours and the previous review about an extra arm chain the lounge. This is taking pride of place beside the fireplace. We have also removed the string lights in the kitchen that we were waiting on being repaired. Should you be holidaying in the area again please do get in touch. Property Owner
"Superb stay - would definitely come back again to stay."
Martin is a fantastic host and the farm is beautiful.
"We loved the space and style of the property and the surrounding conversions."
Warm and well presented. But only really a 2+2 children when considering the extremely narrow single beds, and the provision of only 4 seats including a three seater (if upright and slim) sofa; we brought in one of the outside chairs! The living space could also do with table/shelf lamps either side of the chimney (and faux stove) to allow the ‘all main lights’ switch to be set to off when reading or watching TV. A pity the lights over the sink worktop don’t work. Rugs would be welcome in the double bedroom (cold floors) though may provide a slip hazard if not well fixed, I fear, in these days of H&S. We liked the en-suite, though the shower tray fills close to full each time and of course the screen doesn’t fully contain the spray. The door catch is also difficult and will no doubt fail soon from the effort required to get it to engage with the ’receiver’…. So, lovely to look at and ‘be in’, but a number of practical niggles, not commensurate with the price. We’d like to be able to return for a full week and/or warmer weather but can’t afford the prices then applying, so may well not.
Hello Christopher. Many thanks for your feedback. We are delighted that you loved the style and setting of the cottage on the farm and particularly pleased that you gave us top marks on cleanliness on the breakdown. Thank you also for your constructive feedback on ‘practical niggles’ that we will consider and implement for future guests. Hope to meet again. Kind regards Martin Property Owner
"Oxen Cottage was a lovely place to stay in Wiltshire."
It was warm and inviting from the first moment we walked in. I would be very happy to stay there again.
Hello Lesley. Many thanks for your kind review. I hope you got home before the weather changed. Please consider us if you’re planning another holiday in the area again in future. Martin. Property Owner
"Quality of accommodation."
One slight area of concern stains on duvets and poor quality throws contain bedded room. Other than these small points excellent all round.
Hello Peter. Many thanks for your feed back. I’m afraid a long and busy summer season has taken its toll on certain items in the cottage and thanks to you and your feedback I have been in and changed the bedding, throws and cushions. If you are ever holidaying in the area again please do consider us. Kind regards Martin. Property Owner
"We had a very enjoyable week in beautiful surroundings."
The property was immaculate and the eggs lovely. Martin was more than helpful and a joy to meet.
Hello Margaret. Many thanks for your review. We enjoyed having you as much as you enjoyed staying. Hopefully we will meet again. Kind regards Martin Property Owner
"Oxon Cottage was very comfortable."
However, we would like to mention that there was a constant unpleasant damp smell in the en-suite shower room. Otherwise everything was fine.
Helo Margaret - Many thanks for your feedback. We have been been in an investigated the smell mentioned and have hopefully put this right. Hopefully we will have a chance to meet again. Many thanks Martin & Andrew. Property Owner

We have stayed at this location several times and enjoyed every minute it's like home from home and the hosts are so welcoming
Hello John - Thank you for your feedback. It was lovely to have you stay again and we look forward to your next visit. See you soon. Martin & Andrew. Property Owner
"Excellent idea to have the magnetic fly nets as there were lots of flies on the farm."
Cottage was very bright and airy with lots of space to spread out. Noticed that a washing machine was listed but wasn't there. Also, the bedrooms had skylights without blinds which woke us up early! These are small quibbles in what was a very enjoyable week's break.
"Good well equipped 2-bed unit, great service from Martin The only downside was the uncomfortable outside seating area with no shade and views of old farm buildings, that seemed to be full of old builders' stuff."
Frankly an easy fix, but on a very busy working farm tidy is rarely a priority But the location was good and we fully enjoyed our week, as did our dog.
"Very good !"
"Host was really helpful and sorted out issues speedily."
Close to the M4 but no noise very peaceful. Lots of places in the area to visit. Great base but would have liked a garden however the patio is a sun trap.
"Great place, much more spacious than the pictures show."
Very comfortable with modern appliances and fittings. Nice location, with plenty of places to visit either by car or on foot. Would recommend. Really enjoyed our time there
"There were issues with the cleanliness at this location I."
E. Cobwebs on the ceilings and underneath wall units in the kitchen and there were dead flies lying on the floors when we arrived and they continued to appear from time to time during the stay despite not having windows open or leaving doors open.
"Getting out and about."
Seeing different things. Staying in cottage for a day chilling. Comfort of cottage excellent . Martin's knowledge of places to see. Plus letting my dog have space to play .
"The property was not very clean, washing up sponge on the floor below the table ."
dirt under the beds. ensuite shower tray filled with water due to slow drainage. no information where facilitys were. outside bins overflowing. No ramp to front door.
"Absolutely stunning barn conversion could not recommend it any higher !"
"We were very lucky to get be able to book this cottage at such short notice due to a late cancellation and so were happy just to have a place that appeared to meet our basic requirements."
We were absolutely delighted to see the place in real life and realise that it exceeded our expectations. The decoration throughout is super, the beds are really comfy and the kitchen is well equipped. As a family who tend to visit a holiday cottage or two a year, we were delighted with the size of the fridge and freezer (much bigger than often found) - big enough for us to store all our food for the week easily (the plug in cool box wasn't needed!) The stock of cleaning supplies was really reassuring in these current times too. Although COVID-19 has led to reduced contact with others in person, we did see Martin a couple of times and he responded really promptly to texts. He was really helpful with out questions and recommendations for places to visit. He was also willing to attend to any minor issues immediately if we had needed this. The surroundings were lovely and all in all we had a fantastic holiday stay. We'd definitely recommend this place.
"The owners were very friendly and helpful."
The cottage was better than we expected (and bigger) The position near the motorway (but no noise) is great for access to Bath and Bristol. Although on a farm, it is very quite and relaxing.
"It was a lovely cottage very clean and well laid out."
"Oxen Cottage is a wonderful space with everything a family of four would need to enjoy the Cotswolds."
Martin is a very obliging host, fresh eggs from the farm always in offer and Martin makes it an experience for the kids to get their own! Our kids loved the giant chess, the ludo, the multiple puzzles and the little red ball in the cottage. The kitchen well stocked with circulon cookware, more than enough tableware and cutlery and Martin also provides oil, salt and pepper, tea, coffee and sugar and milk to start off and more than enough dishwasher tablets and cleaning materials for the week. I would have appreciated a pair of tongs and some wooden spoons but that is a minor thing. All in all, a great stay.
"The cottage has lovely interior design with an excellent oven and bathrooms."
Some of the kitchen equipment could have done with being cleaner. Prospective clients need to be made aware that the washing machine and dryer are shared and stored in an untidy utility shed. Flies are a problem in that area but spray and flypaper were available in the cottage. Other than that we had an excellent week and the owner could not have been more helpful.
"We had a great time in this beautiful barn conversion."
It is spotlessly clean, well designed, and has everything you could need or want. Situated on a working farm, it’s quiet, rural and peaceful. Martin, the owner, is really friendly and helpful. We couldn’t recommend it more highly.
"Fabulous cottage, well equipped and comfortable."
Great fun watching the chickens running around. WiFi would be something to add to improve it further and from talking to the owner this is being considered. Great location for exploring the area, with easy access to motorway. Recommended
"The cottage was extremely well equipped and very tastefully furnished."
We received a very kind welcome and we loved the surroundings and wider area.
"Lovely property and the chicken farm is a great neighbour."
Since the cottage has a kitchen, it would have been nice to have some basic amenities provided such as cooking oil and butter to save one having to buy it and only use a small amount. Apart from that, nothing to fault.
"A stunning barn conversion, it really is as nice as the pictures."
We really enjoyed our stay here. Great location close to lots of fantastic places. The owner was friendly and welcoming and helped really quickly with the couple of questions we had. Highly recommended
"Martin our host was friendly and welcoming."
Nice welcome gifts of eggs, milk grapes and biscuits. Also tray with coffee tea and sugar. Two good bathrooms one with a walk in shower which is essential for my husband who has Parkinsons. Second stay and would stay again.
"Oxen cottage is beautifully furnished and spacious, you couldn't ask for môre for a perfect few days."
Martin is there if needed but not intrusive, and supplied some wonderful eggs from the farm! We would defiantly return if we wanted time in the Cotswolds as a great base for sightseeing
"Fabulous cottage, had everything we needed."
Great design and layout. Quality furnishings and decor. Good location just a couple of miles from M4, but in such a quiet location. Just perfect!
"An extremely comfortable and well appointed holiday home."
Set in a beautiful, quiet area. Nothing was too much trouble for Martin the owner of Oxen cottage. We had a lovely welcome package including a basket of a dozen fresh organic eggs and a box of delicious Florentines. We would highly recommend a holiday in this cottage and will most definitely return
"Oxen Cottage is a lovely place to have a quiet break."
There are local walks suitable for the dogs. The cottage is comfortable and warm but more important the owners are close by and are very helpful and welcoming with local info. Thankyou.
"Very peaceful, ideal for all!"
Very welcoming and homely! Modern facilities Excellent local information provided Martin the owner was most helpful.
"This cottages interior it exceptional high class fittings and fixtures, beautiful decor and very clean."
Lovely owners very accommodating. Excellent holiday home.
"A fantastic cottage , excellent amenities the hosts were brilliant just wish I could have had the cottage for longer we will be back!"
"There was no clock s as we did not wear watches this was a minor thing n"
"The cottage was lovely - décor was very well co-ordinated - it's those little extra touches that make all the difference."
All the equipment we needed was provided. The bathrooms are excellent with everything placed appropriately to make it simple to use with all at hand. Fresh eggs, milk and biscuits were there to greet us as was Martin who showed us round and explained anything we needed to know. The property is right in the Wiltshire countryside, which is beautiful with lots of picturesque villages in the area. National Trust and English Heritage properties are in close proximity as is Westonbirt Arboretum, Lacock and Castle Combe. Longleat is about 20 miles away and well worth a visit. There are so many things to see in the area, we may have to return. In addition, the weather couldn't have been better. A most enjoyable stay. Thank you.
"We had an excellent 5 day stay and really enjoyed the property and the areas around it."
It offered good local dog walking opportunities. The only thing we missed in the cottage was tea towels.
"Cottage was lovely, had a perfect week away it was peaceful and relaxing."
The basket of eggs and Florentines on arrival were a nice touch. Could not fault this cottage
"The property has been upgraded to a high standard and the hosts are always ..."
The property has been upgraded to a high standard and the hosts are always polite and very welcoming plus the milk and eggs were a lovely bonus to kick off our holiday
"This is an excellent home from home quiet cottage in an excellent location for visiting interesting places nearby."
Although no wifi it was nice to have a weeks break from modern technology .
"Oxen cottage is fantastic, amazing!"
We loved staying there! It's beautiful decorated and very quit. It is situated very well. Only thing we've missed was WIFI. We prepared our day trips on the internet, so wifi is a better option!
"The eggs that were left and Wee starter of coffee and tea ect were a lovely touch."
Thank you. It was an extremely clean and comfortable cottage. Very much home from home. The only thing that could be improved would be to put a Wee fence around the front to keep the dogs in and so we could leave the patio doors open on a hot day. The dogs loved the freedom of the field. The owner was very helpful and pleasant. The other thing missing was a washing machine and worst of all for teenagers no wifi. We were there to visit family so not such big problem for us Also a www manual for the house explaining all the basics ( how to use the cooker, dishwasher where the dog friendly field was and maybe where the nearest super market is ect). Overall a very lovely cottage.
"Very comfortable and stylish cottage situated within easy access of the M4 (but no traffic noise)."
Warm welcome from Martin and much appreciated welcome pack of a dozen fresh eggs, milk, biscuits, etc. Cottage is light and airy and the beds are really comfortable. Lovely part of Wiltshire with plenty of charming villages to visit. The New Inn is a short drive and provides delicious food.
"A really comfortable cottage which has been recently upgraded."
Martin was very welcoming and we had a lovely stay. Our dogs loved it too!
"There was no dustpan available for us to clean up and as we had elderly lady in ..."
There was no dustpan available for us to clean up and as we had elderly lady in party a hand rail down from parking area to door would be helpful
"Martin and Andrew the owners were fabulous people, the farm was perfect for children, views were stunning and the barn had everything you could ask for!"
We will be going back in the future. I would highly recommend this to everyone with or with out a young family.
"Stunning converted barn with everything you needed for an enjoyable holiday."

Our birds will not be outside during their holiday and certain areas of the farm will be restricted until further notice
