  • "Highly recommend, if you are looking for somewhere with some serious character this is the place."

There are some great cycle routes near the cottage with great views. The host was kind enough to provide enough logs for the wood burner which were sufficient for the duration of our stay.

However - the furniture has seen better days and given the high temperatures it would have been good to have had fans in the rooms. Would definitely stay again though!

The cottage has everything you need, to make it more luxurious I would have appreciated better quality cooking utensils, more saucepans and a decent frying pan plus bath sheet towels would be great. Other than that this cottage is gorgeous. Really enjoyed coming to the cottage, comfy beds. Everything was so nice and love the big garden.

Specialists in stylish, contemporary and characterful Cotswold cottages

The property

Hidden away in the quiet village of Aston Magna, sits this fabulous Grade ll listed cottage, that was once a 12th century chapel, Norman Chapel.

Built from lovely Cotswold stone, the cottage has an abundance of original character features and is the perfect base for a special break in the Cotswolds for a family or group of friends alike.

Enter into the property through the handy boot room, where you can store your muddy boots after a day of exploring, which opens up into the well-equipped kitchen where you can make use of the contemporary facilities to rustle up delicious meals for your loved ones.

Wash any muddy clothes in the washing machine located in the utility room and conveniently hang them on the washing line, for less washing to do when you get home and if your dog comes back from the walk with muddy paws, have a quick rinse of them in the shower room that sits adjacent to the utility.

Enjoy your heart-warming meals in the characterful fining room, gathered with your guests around the large wooden dining table, as you uncork a bottle of wine to celebrate a fantastic holiday that lies ahead, before retreating to the spacious sitting room to watch a film on the Freeview TV, whilst the warmth from the woodburning stove keeps you warm and toasty.

For some peace and quiet, head into the study that sits adjacent to the sitting room, where you can get lost in the pages of a compelling novel from the selection of books on offer, or play a game with your loved ones.

As the night draws to a close, head upstairs where you will pass a wonderful archway, giving a feel to the cottage's history, to find three homely bedrooms in the eaves of the property; a king-size with an ornate bed and additional foldaway bed (measuring 2’1” x 5’9”) that can be set up on request, a double room and a twin room, all sharing the floor with the family bathroom.

In the morning, make yourself a refreshing beverage using the smoothie maker, to be enjoyed in the lovely patio area, surrounded by beautiful gardens, with mature fruit trees and a lovely view of a neighbouring former church.

Be sure to make use of the charcoal barbecue in warmer months!

Nearby Chipping Campden is one of the most recognisable market towns of the Cotswolds, where there are a number of antique shops, bookshops, including two antiquarian bookshops, a host of individual gift shops selling locally produced goods as well as Italian hand painted ceramics, glassware and an array of artisan food stores.

You can enjoy a delicious breakfast at The Bantam Tea Rooms before heading over to Dover’s Hill to enjoy the stunning views over the Vale of Evesham.

Head over to the much-loved Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ due to the low arched bridges that cross over the River Windrush, which boasts a variety of popular shops and attractions such as Cotswolds Antiques and Tea Room and the lovely Kingsbridge riverside pub, as well as Birdland Park and Gardens where you can enjoy the wildlife.

For a touch of history, head to Stow-on-the-Wold, which is the highest of the Cotswold villages, and take a walk around the market square where you will find the town stock at one end which dates back to the 15th Century and is shaded by an old Elm Tree or take a stroll over to St Edward’s Parish Church where you will find the enchanting looking tree surrounded doorway.

A peaceful base, with something for everyone close by, Norman Chapel is the best choice for you and your loved ones!
