  • "This is a lovely house (not a cottage); everything was as stated, especially its lovely location."

I should point out that the twin bedroom is considerably smaller than the other and more suited to children, as the wardrobe is very small. We also looked in vain for re-cycling of glass, paper, plastic and the promised bin bag collection on the Thursday did not collect our bag, though we left it on top of the hedge (at the end of the hedge), as per instructions. Future hirers might be advised to use a 'one way' system for arriving and leaving, coming in via the Sugar Loaf Cafe and going out via the southern end, as turning the car around on the drive is difficult. But these are minor points - all round it is a lovely place to stay.

We had the most amazing 4 days despite the storms. The views are breathtaking and for those that enjoy a good walk or run it is perfect. The house itself is so much bigger than you would expect and having a aga was a real bonus. The basket of goodies on arrival was a lovely touch. We are already looking at booking later in the year.

  • "The cottage was very clean with great location."

However there were a few factors that caused concern. The front door was extremely hard to exit. The handles were mismatched made exiting from the front door almost impossible. I shudder to think what would have happened if a fire broke out. The heating in the downstairs toilet needs to he repaired as well as the flush mechanism . The cottage was decorated with personal effects of a previous resident including photographs, while I do understand this was someone's home before I didn't really need a photo of the deceased staring at me while on holiday. Generally a bit of an upgrade is needed , new carpets new sofa would make a great difference.

  • "My abiding memory of this place is the unique view from the bedroom windows."

Whilst lying in the big brass bed, before you is a landscape from the Lord of the Rings. Truly magical. The big AGA in the kitchen warms the house and cooks your eggs and bacon in the way only an AGA can, and the open fire in the front living room , with it's copious supply of kiln-dried wood keeps you cosy when resting after a bracing walk in the Malvern Hills, which are reached by the path that runs directly beside the cottage. An authentic and loved property which left us refreshed after a much- needed two night stay.

I am so glad I found Lilac Cottage! Nestled within the iconic Malvern Hills on the Herefordshire side lies this charming cottage. It has a beautiful exterior set within a very pretty garden which is dog safe. On opening the door you are welcomed by the warmth and inviting hallway that leads onto equally attractive rooms beyond. The lounge with open fire is the perfect location for relaxing after a walk on the hills, and the kitchen with its amazing AGA has everything you should need. The main bedroom is very comfortable and the views from here are incredible. The WiFi was consistently good and SKY TV was an added bonus. We look forward to staying here again probably in the Summer to sit in the garden and enjoy once again everything Lilac Cottage has to offer.

It is idyllically placed right next to the Malvern Hills. The cottage itself sits high over West Malvern and you get some great sunsets in the evening. You can watch the lamps twinkle in the night, reminding you of Narnia. The local walks take you across gorgeous landscapes. The house is spacious and we learnt how to use and love the AGA which warms up the house. Even cooked the Christmas Dinner on it. It is a peaceful, tranquil, comfortable and beautiful house. The owner is very helpful and we loved the story behind the house - it feels loved and cherished.

  • "A beautiful location and absolutely stunning views and sunsets, wow!"

Sitting in the garden sipping wine on an unusually warm and sunny autumnal afternoon was wonderful! I have given mixed ratings because whilst the view and position were terrific and bedding was lovely and clean, the kitchen felt grubby (i.e. a classic 'man-draw' with nail clippers all in with the knifes and forks, old food in the cupboards and freezer... sticky surfaces, if you touched anything you felt like you needed to wash your hands (good practice anyway I guess!... it just all needed a proper clean), the downstairs bathroom and toilet were dirty (we ended up having to clean them before we used them), and the tiny shower room has mould in the shower; a dark downstairs toilet even with the light on so you can't see all you need to easily, a deafening pump kicks in to run the shower and if you happen to be in the loo next door (where the pump is located) is it so loud, the bed mattresses are uncomfortable and need changing, the furniture is old and dated and as I say a bit 'grubby'..... anyway that kind of thing. It is a stunning location and the walks from the front door are wonderful, it just lets itself down with the condition of a lot inside the cottage.

You can do gentle low-level walks or steep and strenuous ones as you prefer. We had a generous welcome pack including lovely wine. The cottage is comfortable and warm with plenty of hot water and it was a bonus having Sky and Netflix TV. Views are amazing and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. We foolishly left our tablet behind when packing and they wrapped it up carefully and sent it to us at no charge. A hidden gem which we plan to return to. Best walk was along the ridge to British Camp (on Herefordshire Beacon) and don't forget to sample the fabulous gooseberry and elderflower sorbet at Rachel's Place by the car park! Really great place also if you are a mountain-biker.

The view is unbelievable, the pictures don’t do it justice at all (even though they still look pretty impressive) so we were blown away. Great background for breakfast in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening! TV fully set up when you need some down time and there are lots of games to keep you occupied. We used the Aga which was a first for both of us but we couldn’t not give it a go! The walks around the hills are breathtaking and well worth the muscle burn. Local area was nice and we found some great restaurants to go to. We would definitely recommend!

  • "Fantastic cottage with wonderful views from its elevated position."

The welcome pack was excellent especially the Malbec red wine. Superb location for walks onto the hills. Excellent living rooms including Sky Sports on the main tv which would have been great in normal times. We weren't that keen on the Aga (and some idiots guide instructions would have been good) but that's personal choice. Just a note for anyone looking at this property with a reactive dog - being on a busy walking route up to the Hills, other off lead dogs were near the cottage on a regular basis which meant that we couldn't walk our collie in the immediate area, but if you have a non reactive dog, it would be superb. The cottage is described as having a fully enclosed garden but there is a very low wall on one side (the lowest level) and a gap on the side (lower left corner) which any dog could jump over. The owners should address this or change the description to exclude the words "fully enclosed". Having said that, the garden and furniture provided are lovely. We left early due to escalating corona virus restrictions and a feeling that we needed to be at home at this difficult time but that is no reflection on the cottage.

, was a real treat to sit in the comfortable garden chairs with a glass of wine & admire the fantastic view. Lilac Cottage could be the highest property on the 'Sugar loaf hill. From every window the vista was amazing we could break into song as we could see for ' Miles & Miles & Miles' Laying in bed in the morning listen to the church chiming the hour, birds singing & looking out to that beautiful view will stay with us always. 'The British Camp' was the first steep hill I had ever climbed, not being the fittest of a seventy year olds, we will look back on the video of me panting with a grin, of course babies born to walking were passing me, but, when Andy realised I wasn't a mountain goat, we took the more gentle paths & I reached the top of the 'Beacon' something I'm now very proud of. Again a song comes to mind ' the hills are alive with the sound of Midges' Thank- you Sykes for showing us a piece of heaven.

The interior and exterior of the cottage are fresh and very clean and a lot of energy has gone into it, my first reaction when going into the hall was its like a hotel, and each room offers all that you will need for a great stay. Now the views are beyond description or photograph and must be seen to be believed they are stunning, we estimated that the views across the valley are in the distance of about 25 miles and the sunsets are fantastic. Its been so good to sit outside every day last week, made more comfortable by the outdoor chairs and the benches and tables. I sat outside on 3 evenings watching the stars and a very feint Milky Way form, although not a Dark skies area its very good. As far as access to the Malvern hills is concerned you walk out of the front door or garden gate and you are on them, its as simple as that. We walked into Great Malvern and it took us less than half an hour going but quite a bit longer coming back. The Beacon and Sugar loaf are the nearest hills and the paths are well defined and good. And of course there is the Aga which is a beast of a thing and we wondered if it would be too hot in the kitchen, but it wasn't an issue but we where glad of the microwave. The Aga makes good toast which was the limit of my experience. Oh and there is a Dish washer which isn't mentioned in the description. Lilac cottage is a much loved home and we would love to go back again.
