  • "There's a difference between the photos on the Sykes' site and the owner's site which needs correcting."

The cottage was welcoming and warm. The bed was super king size and very comfortable. We only stay where the beds are this size. The owner was extremely quick to find a plumber to replace the shower cartridge which controls the temperature of the water.

  • "This is a great little cottage for a break in the Cotswolds."

The location is perfect for exploring many of the towns and villages you’d want to see when visiting, it’s situated in very quiet village making for a very relaxing retreat. You can park right outside the cottage which is great with a dog and luggage. The cottage had all of the things you’d need for a short break and was very clean and comfortable. Ok it’s nothing overly flash however fantastic value for money and extremely clean and well-priced compared to many other places to stay with a dog nearby. The bed is very big and comfortable. My only comment would be is that the shower runs at one temperate, hot! Although there is a lovely bath to use if you’d prefer so not an issue. Overall a great place to stay and we will certainly be back!

Thank you for your kind comments, it is always helpful to know if anything is not working as it should, we have now traced the problem with the shower and it has been repaired. We would love to see you both again including of course your dog. Best wishes, Liz Property Owner

The weather was pretty bad but the location of the cottage meant we were just a short distance from Stratford, Warwick Castle and many of the Cotswold villages. Would recommend.

The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and in a great place to go visiting the surrounding area. The listing says pub close by, however you have to travel by car as it is too far to walk and down country lanes.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Although it is only a mile to the local pub it is probably better to go by car (especially after a good dinner) sorry we could not organise better weather for you. Regards, Liz Property Owner

The bed was really comfortable and it had everything we needed plus the parking is brilliant and you are able to unload and take your cases straight in. Lovely little garden area and a very base so we had a very nice time. Would we stay here again - definitely!

Thank you for your kind remarks, so pleased you enjoyed your stay. The cottage is due for its annual spruce up this winter when we close for a few weeks. Property Owner

  • "The property is in a nice position but there is scope to make a lot of improvements inside it."

The lack of matching glasses and mugs is a shame. One of each type of glass is not ideal. Some of the cooking equipment is old e.g. a stained frying pan and an old worse for wear plastic jug. Saucepan lids did not fit. One of the chopping boards was very dirty, looked like it hadn’t been washed. Very disappointing. The property does smell of damp. The property cannot be classed as dog friendly. The back area is tiny and at the front there is no secure fence. It’s easy for dogs to get onto the road which is worrying. I’m afraid we would not recommend it.

We take note of your comments which are always helpful. As stated in the details the patio is small, it is never advisable to allow any pets run free when there are many good dog walking areas near to the cottage. With regard to other matters in your ‘comments’ we will endeavour to correct them. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is clean and well maintained."

There was no sign of the problems reported by "Beverley" in June 2021. It's a shame that those negative comments are so prominent when the issues reported have clearly been fixed. The bed and the shower were excellent. The kitchen area was rather small with nowhere to store food except in the fridge. There is a washing machine but nowhere to dry washing. A dishwasher would have been more useful. We have become accustomed to finding a welcome pack in Sykes cottages, containing such things as scones, jam, tea, coffee and usually a bottle of wine. There was no welcome pack here :-( The cottage is well located for trips out to Stratford, Stow, Moreton and most of the Cotswolds. We enjoyed our time here.

Situated in a charming little village. The cottage overall was very clean, from the fridge to the bathroom. It came equipped with the majority of required tools and facilities, although it did lack a dustpan and brush to aid cleaning fire and some proper fire tools. Also the hoover had little suction making it difficult to clean. These are very minor issues on the whole, as this was a backup choice for us it turned out to be the best option. Will definitely visit again.

  • "Distillers Cottage was a lovely, cosy jaunt for a few nights’ break for two key workers."

The location is fine (put ‘Distillers Cottage’ into maps/your satnav and look out for the bin marked DC as it is down an easily-missable alleyway). The place is clean and well-equipped - the kitchen is small but does a job and maybe only misses a dishwasher. The reclining sofa is as comfy as you’ll find and perfect in front of the log fire. There’s an outside area though we didn’t use due to October weather. The bedroom is huge with a comfy bed and TV, and the bathroom is great with a powerful shower, though we found the hot water can be a little pretentious at times (basically, the shower would start to cool in temperature after a certain time period, but it stays hot long enough for a adequate shower). Parking space is good and it’s well connected to A Roads to get around the Cotswolds. We’d also recommend the Fuzzy Duck pub about a mile away - we walked there and back so we could have a drink and the roads are not lit so be careful after a pint of the Cotswolds’ finest! Keys were easy to arrange pick-up upon arrival and, although we didn’t meet the owners, they were good at replying to texts. Overall a lovely stay and would recommend. 4/5 stars!

The kitchen is so small there is no where to put any food apart from on the worktop, which is small. There is no information or map about where we were in the area (attractions). The furniture (tables &chairs) is very dated and could do with being replaced. So that they can cleaned down properly. The bathroom was lovely and a superb shower. Bed was huge and very comfortable. The people in the village are very welcoming. We enjoyed our stay as it was only for a few days, but wouldn't stay here a week.

  • "Despite 2 reviews that stated otherwise we noticed no damp whatsoever, perhaps because new heating had recently been installed."

The cottage is very comfortable, large compared to most other single bedroom properties and in a small rural village. The area is extremely quiet, the only noise we ever heard were a pigeon and our neighbours cars being started up. The nearest shops and pubs are about 2 miles away in either Ilmington or Shipston on Stour. Due to its rural location the television reception sometimes faltered for a second but I did not notice this when using my tablet or mobile.

  • "This property is damp and smells musty and mouldy."

Everything we took with us smells of damp. The property had not been cleaned properly. The oven had food inside, food splashes down the front and on the handle. The remote control was filthy. The kitchen bin lid was dirty. There were spiders webs everywhere. There is very little kitchen equipment. Nothing matching. One sharp knife which is a bread knife and no chopping board. The only baking tray was smaller than my iPad. Previous guests have used the plates to cut things on due to the lack of chopping board so the three mismatched plates were covered in chips and scratches. I complained immediately to Sykes and have been compensated for this below standard property. However, as a holiday let owner myself it was not about the money but about not letting below par property owners get away with it, especially in present times when cleaning should be a priority. The cleaning can be sorted however the rising damp issue won’t be a quick fix. The location is good and it was very quiet. The small terrace was suitable for our one small dog and there was ample parking.

Thank you for your feedback, it is always helpful to have some constructive remarks, We have taken note and done our best to rectify the problems. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very cluttered."

Cables untidy and wifi did not work beyond the first evening. The TV was little more than the size of a laptop screen mounted to the wall. There were cobwebs everywhere. The microwave was dirty. It is advertised as for two people, so more than 12 drinking glasses are unneccessary. As are three bedside lights each side of the bed! - and six downlighters!! The furniture is old and shabby but definitely not chic. The kitchen cupboards are so full of mismatched items that there is no room to put your provisions. The cottage benefits from a washing machine, however there is no means to dry. It does have a lovely comfortable bed and the shower is good. The welcome pack was a nice thought - until I realised that the milk had run out of date FOUR days before we arrived. So, all in all, a disappointing stay.

I also noticed that the blinds had mould on them due to the exceptional weather we made the most of it. But by Tuesday we could not stay any longer our clothes were starting to smell damp so we came home. Originally I called Sykes to say we were leaving due to personal reasons, which in hindsight I wish I had advised the real reason. Which I did on the Wednesday. They raised a case and advised that they were going to contact the cottage owner and feed back. To date I have not received a response. Personally I am extremely disappointed as this is our only holiday this year as my husband has a long term illness. As a customer that has used Sykes previously I feel extremely let down! Surely Sykes can arrange some form of compensation as we had to cut our holiday short due to no fault of ours. Regards Mr and Mrs Dance

The kitchen area although it has a fridge, a cooker, Microwave and washer there is a distinct lack of cupboard storage and nowhere for cereals and bottles.
