  • "This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful village."

We had a great stay and the cottage is well situated for visiting some marvellous places of interest. The only down side was the lack of parking which was made clear at the time of booking. I would highly recommend this property.

  • "We had a beautiful time at Chapel Cottage in Bourton-on-the-Water."

The place is in a great location - easy access to the town, as well as, the many walking paths that surround the area. It was rainy while we were in the Cotswolds... so we just wanted to give a special shout out to the great selection of classic DVDs (using the dvd player was almost a novelty in itself), the great selection of games, and the amazing fireplace! Thanks for having us!

  • "Chapel Cottage is the perfect place to stay in Bourton-on-the-Water, you can't get a better location."

We loved our stay here and would definitely choose to come back. The High Street is around the corner, along with plenty of restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops - everything you need. There is no parking at the cottage but there is time restricted free street parking in the village (can leave overnight) and also car parks by the Co-Op or by Birdland on the edge of the village. Just be aware that if you have any mobility problems, the staircase is very steep and windy (and uneven).

    JulieAug 2020

  • "Chapel Cottage was cosy and very comfortable."

It was small but functional and a fabulous base for sightseeing. It was spotlessly clean and had all the amenities required of a home from home excursion. It was in the perfect location within the village for venturing into the numerous shops, cafes and restaurants. A particular favourite was the Bakery on the Water for their delicious breakfast pastries. It was also well situated for exploring the surrounding Cotswolds villages and towns. The cottage was reasonably priced and we would highly recommend it.

  • "Wonderful location, right in the heart of Bourton."

Very clear communication from the hosts, lots of pre-visit info and help with my allergy to feathers in terms of bedding etc. It was spotlessly clean (and I have high standards). The stairs are no joke, but we’d been made aware beforehand. The floor is a bit squeaky but didn’t stop either of us from sleeping. The house was well stocked with the little things appreciated for a weekend and the shops and river Windrush are no more than 2 mins walk away. Fantastic stay in the Cotswolds

  • "The cottage is clean and maintained to a high standard."

Chapel cottage is very well located and extremely central. We would recommend The Croft and Duke of Wellington for dog friendly places to eat.

    NicolaMar 2020

  • "Fantastic cottage just off the high street in the middle of Bourton-on-the-Water."

The cottage is very charming but should warn about the steep stairs! The bedrooms were cosy and the location can’t be matched. We had no problems checking in our out and communications with the host were very clear. Would definitely recommend if you don’t have mobility issues or giant suitcases.

    MaikoFeb 2020

  • "Photos don't do the house justice."

Beautifully done out. Fab location right in the middle of the village. One small draw back being if you are elderly the stair are very steep, but at the end of the day it is a cottage with lots of character and wonderful features.

  • "We loved our stay at Chapel Cottage in Bourton-On-The-Water."

The location was fantastic, within walking distance of everything in the village. The Cottage itself was genuinely quintessentially english, but with all the mod cons for a very enjoyable stay. The washing machine and dryer out in the back shed was a godsend after 3 weeks of not being able to do any washing and having racks to hang everything on was brilliant. Carol & Nick and the team at Character Cottages were outstanding with the communication, instructions and help - couldn't have made it all easier for us! The Cottage was voted by us all as our favourite accommodation after a month of travelling throughout Europe. Thank you.

    RebeccaOct 2019

  • "This was a magical hub from which to explore this incredible area."

We left each day before Bourton got busy but enjoyed the cottage a great deal. I just wish it had been cool enough to justify starting a fire! For visitors with a car, I highly recommend a day trip to the edge of Wales to see Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle. These sites blew us away.

It’s in an excellent location, right around the corner from the Main Street at Bourton-on-the-Water. One of the prettiest places in the Cotswolds. Perfect for 5 of us and everything you could possibly need. We loved it so much, we didn’t want to leave. Thanks for letting us have such a gorgeous experience. The 5 girls from Australia will be back... one day.

Our family felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. Bourton-on-the-Water is a lovely village close to everything in the Cotswolds. Our hosts were amazing leaving us a welcome note, along with wood for the fire and a bottle of bubbly. Our stay was a dream come true.

  • "From the moment we walked through the door, we fell in love with this beautiful cottage."

Utterly charming, spotlessly clean, perfect location. The chocolate cake on arrival was very much appreciated, so yummy! We enjoyed 2 perfect nights playing games (provided, but we also brought our own) A wonderful start to Christmas for us but are also thinking about booking again for another time of year as think it would be equally as lovely. We visited sudely castle for the Christmas light show which was beautiful and not far away. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and visit again.

About the location

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER

Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
