  • "Great cottage, we had a lovely week, thank you."

Explored Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Broadway and Great Tew. We enjoyed the maze, model village, Hawkstone Brewery and the motor museum. Relaxed evenings playing board games by the fire were ideal. Thank you very much, definitely recommend and will be back. Fay

Thank you Fay for this lovely review. We're so glad you had such a great week at Newbury Cottage, and managed to enjoy so many of the surrounding amenities. We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at Newbury Cottage."

It’s a lovely little cottage with lots of character, it is comfortable and well equipped with the labelling of the kitchen cupboards helpful and also the thoughtful touches such as milk butter cereal etc (thank you). There was also a useful information pack and lots of local information booklets with local walks and places to visit. The narrow lane and parking can be a challenge but only what you might expect in a small quaint village. All in all a great stay and thank you also for arranging the gorgeous weather.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. We have raised these issues with the owner, the mattress has been replaced. We hope that you did manage to enjoy your stay overall. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

Everything that you could need for a holiday. Close to amenities, fantastic walks, pubs & cafes. Great to have a covered parking space. Could maybe do with slightly higher stone wall to stop dog escaping but this is maybe just us being protective of our nervous dog.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your time at the cottage, as well as the area. We appreciate your comments regarding developing a higher stone wall to keep dogs secure, and will take this into full consideration. We hope to welcome you and your furry friend again in the future! • "Beautiful period cottage with everything we neededfor a great stay."

Fantastic location for Bourton and surrounding villages, town and attractions. Having a garage for my car was a must as Bourton gets busy and parking is near impossible and would be expensive. We had a dog but he was allowed in 90% of the places and shops we visited including Coteswold Wildlife Park, Coteswold Motor museum and Birdland and Gardens, the last 2 being situated in Bourton itself.

Many thanks for leaving your comments on Newbury Cottage, we agree the garage is a must! Glad you had a great stay. Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our week at Newbury Cottage, it was situated right on the High Street so all the amenities of Bourton On The Water were a couple of minutes away."

Bourton On The Water is also handy for getting to other attractions of the Cotswolds, and although we drove to other places we were told there is a good bus service to places like Cheltenham for those who prefer not to use the car all the time. Regarding the cottage itself, the kitchen was very well equipped, and the kitchen was clean. There was bread in the freezer with instructions to replace if used, which I thought was a good idea. The furnishings in the cottage were a bit tired looking, dust was in all the wardrobes and also on the living room table. Also driving through the gap to get to our parking space was extremely nerve racking, and you could see where some cars hadn't quite made it, and scraped the walls!! Can I recommend that advice is given to drive in from the village end, as that proved to be the easier option. We were also a bit disappointed that our area of garden was not fenced in, and it would have been difficult to have the gate to the shared garden closed, which meant that our dog Ziggy had to be walked around the garden on the lead first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and could not run around the garden as he is used to at home. Overall the cottage served it's purpose and we were comfortable there, and Bourton On The Water, with it's pubs, tea rooms and restaurants, as a location, cannot be faulted.

Thank you for taking the time to feed back to us, we have amended our website description for future guests. Property Owner

  • "This is our second stay at this delightful character cottage with our family."

We found everything to be clean and in order. Bread, milk, juice & cereal was provided. This is such an excellent choice for the close proximity (just a five minute walk) to the centre of the scenic village of Bourton on the Water. Everything is nearby, shops, restaurants/tea rooms, pubs & tourist attractions with the beautiful river Wind-rush flowing through the centre. I know some guests have been unhappy that there is no WiFi supplied. That said, we couldn't even pick up a signal when switching our data on so I'm sure it would not be an option anyway. I would suggest that maybe the guest towels provided need replacing? They were the same ones we had a few years back when we last stayed and are starting to show their age.

  • "Newbury cottage was very pretty, clean and very well based."

The bed was clean and comfortable as was the living room. There was an issue with the TV and the contact telephone number provided proved to be very speedy. The handyman arrived in under an hour and fixed the TV in less than no time. The lack of WiFi is a problem as for us the signal was a problem and keeping in touch with family was difficult. Apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, as did our two Pugs, they had a great time, thank you.

  • "This is our second time at Newbury Cottage, and we would return again."

The location is within short walking distance to the town center of beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water and the cottage itself is worn, but nice. There is off-street covered parking which is a real bonus. Be aware that the driveway (which you can see in the listing photograph) is very narrow, and between Newbury Cottage and the building next door. A large vehicle might have trouble fitting through. Also be aware that the location doesn't have a street address; only the name Newbury Cottage, which doesn't appear on Google Maps. To locate it, we used the name of the real estate agency next door: Tayler and Fletcher, which is the white building in the listing photograph.

About the location

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER

Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
