  • "We spent mid-term at The Pear Cottage, and had a wonderful time (two adults and three children between 6 and 13)."

The cottage has everything you need, and is well placed within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Cottage was well presented and clean. Great location to explore the Cotswold (walks in Upper/Lower Slaughter, Naunton... the steam rail to from Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse, the Cotswold Falconry Centre etc).

  • "Fantastic cottage in the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water."

Very clean and thoughtful touches such as milk and cookies left for us upon arrival. Parking was the only difficultly, but this was advised prior to our arrival. Amazing stay!

  • "Oh My Goodness!"

Pear-Tree-Cottage is exquisite!! Beautifully furnished, warm, comfortable and with everything you could possibly need. Loved the quirkiness of the house and our kids loved their Attic beds! The village is so pretty - and this is a great base for exploring other parts of The Cotswolds. We would highly recommend this beautiful cottage and we thank our wonderful hosts for allowing us to experience their beautiful home. Ten out of ten! Thankyou Pear-Tree-Cottage for an unforgettable holiday! xx

  • "The house gave us a true Cotswold experience."

There was so much character from the stunning rafters in the roof, the well and many more little crannies through out the house. The beds were divine. Had one of the best sleeps. The sitting room was perfect for my family of 6 or sit around chatting into the late hours of the night. Also, we didn’t need our car all weekend because the house is right in Burton-on-water.

  • "Really fantastic location and a great stay."

The host was super easy to contact and really friendly. Would definitely recommend!

  • "We absolutely adored our stay at Pear Tree Cottage."

The home is cozy and inviting. My 3 year old thought she was living in a real life fairy tale! The host also provided a travel crib for our 5 month old and a high chair. Everything was spotlessly clean. The beds had huge fluffy pillows and comforters. We used the washer/dryer & dishwasher several times - both great to have on hand. The location cannot be beat - on a quiet street just steps from shops, pubs, and restaurants. Free/easy parking out front. Additionally, the host allowed us to arrive early on our first day, after a very early flight into Heathrow. This was a major help & we were so grateful. We would absolutely stay again!

  • "Such a charming, cozy cottage with everything you could need."

We managed to figure out how the mechanical things worked with the help of the explicit directions in the manuals - very helpful. Great location - quiet but an easy walk to town. Hopefully, I'll get to visit again some time. Thanks.

  • "Lovely well equipped cottage."

    TheresaSep 2017

  • "I could not have been happier with our cottage!"

! Everything was absolutely perfect. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The furnishings and decor were so homey and absolutely how I picture my dream English cottage. The attention to detail for the stay was beyond my expectations. Tea and cookies were waiting for us and anything else we could have possibly needed was provided and ready for our stay. Though the home is obviously quite old, it was impeccably clean and not a single sighting or sign of house spiders or other pests. I desperately want to meet the owners because we have the exact same tastes and are meant to be best friends. :D We will definitely be staying here if we travel back to the area. Thank you, Character Cottages, for your friendly assistance with booking the property! Five star service all around.

  • "Pear Tree Cottage was just perfect for our girlie weekend away."

So cosy and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The village is stunning and so close to the but we couldn't wait to get back to the cottage to light the fire and curl up with a glass of wine and watch Christmas movies. Would highly recommend and would love to go back.

  • "One of the nicest and well equipped cottages that we have stayed in."

Great location although car parking a problem on a few occasions. Alan Combey, September 16

  • "The cottage was perfect!"

It was in a brilliant position, lovely garden, very well equipped, wonderful comfy beds and plenty of bathrooms. We would definitely recommend it for six people.

  • "This cottage is fantastic and very in keeping with the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-Water."

Felt like home the minute we arrived and we all settled in very comfortably. There is so much to do and see in the village and the location of the cottage is perfect for walks and quietness. No issues at all and the service from Joanna managing the property during our stay was excellent after helping us out on the last day at last minute. Didn't want to go home.

    Neil, August 16

  • "Wonderful stay, other than forgetting to duck my head once in one of the lower doorways!"

    My own fault!

The property

Pear Tree Cottage is set on a quiet lane, in the heart of the famous Cotswold village, Bourton-on-the-Water.

The charming 17th century, honey coloured limestone-built property is a wonderful retreat for you and your loved ones to have a memorable trip to the stunning Cotswolds.

The front door opens into the inviting sitting room which has lovely exposed Cotswold stone walls, oak beams and pleasing antique features; the room is warmed by a woodburning stove, perfect for you and your loved ones to kick back in front of the TV and warm up after a long day of exploring the Cotswolds.

The well-equipped galley kitchen has everything the budding chef of the group will need to cook up a delicious meal, before you all retreat into the traditional dining room to enjoy your food, surrounded by exposed Cotswold stone walls, oak beams and an original well which can be viewed through a secure glass window in the floor, a real eye-catcher!

A handy shower room completes the ground floor, allowing for no more queues!

After a tiring day, head upstairs to the first floor where you will find the quaint and homely master bedroom through the traditional ledge and brace door, this room has lovely painted oak beams, a king-size bed and benefits from its own basin in the room; the second bedroom is a lovely welcoming twin room, perfect for children, and completing the floor you will find the bathroom where you can enjoy a nice peaceful bath before heading to bed.

A steep, winding staircase with an open side leads up to the sweet dressing room and into the third bedroom in the eaves of the cottage, containing twin beds and benefitting from and en-suite cloakroom with basin and WC, older children will love this room!

When morning rises, head down to the kitchen to make yourself a mug of tea and enjoy the country fresh air in the beautiful, enclosed garden which houses an outdoor table and parasol and is surrounded by leafy shrubs, attractive handing baskets, potted flowers and pleasing flower beds, dotted amongst the paving stones.

If you can tear yourself away from the delightful Pear Tree Cottage, a short stroll from your front door you will find a wealth of attractions and shops, such as The Cotswold Pottery where you can find handmade pottery and The Model Village which is a Grade ll listed, one-ninth scale model of the village itself, which is a fun visit for all the family.

Bourton-on-the-Water is regarded the “Venice of the Cotswolds” as the River Windrush runs through the village and has lovely low bridges; the water is shallow enough in areas for you to dip your toes in warmer months!

If you want to surround yourself with natural beauty, head to Greystones Farm & Nature Reserve which is home to wildflower meadows, working organic farm, Iron Age ramparts, a replica Iron Age roundhouse and an interactive Discovery Barn; offering time out from the hustle and bustle of the village centre, this reserve is open to public all year round and is not to be missed.

Wanting to head out further?

Nearby Lower Slaughter is widely regarded as one of England's most beautiful villages and is home to The Slaughters Country Inn which is a well-regarded, quintessential country inn, offering lovely food and drinks – not to be missed!

- or head to Stow-on-the-Wold which is the highest of the Cotswold villages and is a small market town with an array of boutique shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants; indulge in a bite to eat and drinks at The Stag at Stow, or revel in the scrumptious tea and cakes at The Old Bakery Tea Room or slightly further afield is Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens where you will find over 250 species of animals and be inspired by the beautiful landscaping and seasonal displays throughout the park in Burford, known as Southern “gateway to the Cotswolds”.

About the location

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER

Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
