  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Poet's corner."

It is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The underfloor heating throughout the ground floor was very pleasant - on the verge of too hot even, but fairly easy to turn down - though that was because I knew how these type of things worked, I didn't come across any instructions. The kitchen had everything you could need including tea towels, oven gloves, washing up kit etc. I'd been really organised and brought my own as this isn't aways the case! But it was nice that they were there. The wifi was good enough to stream films over christmas, the location in Bourton was really good, just round the corner from the centre. And having a second sitting room was really nice when you wanted a bit of alone time. We were slightly concerned about the church bells. However i can report that they can't be heard at all in the two first floor bedrooms, only the second floor one, and they were not loud enough to wake you, but you would hear them if you were awake. I really liked them actually. The only negatives were the top bedroom was meant to have a king size bed but it was two singles pushed together (maybe zip and link, not sure), which wasn't as described and the person who used it really didn't want to be in a single bed. The listing should be updated to reflect this. Also the way the twin beds are set up, the bedroom door could not be closed. I had to push the bed by the door to a 30 degree angle to get the door to shut. This might be OK for a children's room but for two adults it would not be great. As I was in there on my own, it wasn't too bad. The shower on the first floor was very pleasant but as it was a waterfall shower it was difficult to use if you weren't washing your hair, which my elderly father wasn't too keen on. It would have been nice to have a second smaller shower head that could be removed from the wall as well. And the shower on the top floor leaked on to the floor the way the doors shut - however it was easy enough for the water to be mopped up. As I said earlier, I didn't find instructions (this may have been me missing them) for appliances or the heating, which would have been helpful. Every brand is slightly different, although most of it is fairly obvious. The microwave took the most working out! The notes haven't been updated since covid so these could be looked at again. Eg we were meant to put linen in provided bags - but there weren't any. Assume no longer required, but is it still required to strip the beds? Not sure. However I could happily have stayed in this lovely cottage - probably forever! We really did enjoy our stay and would thoroughly recommend it - we are a family of 3 adults. I've been on holiday with Sykes before and as always they are easy to deal with, the process is easy, and they respond quickly - a good company.

  • "Overall the property was great."

The church bells were beautiful to hear but not noisy. Great location for walking. The directions for finding the key lock needs to be greatly improved. I could not find it in the dim light and rain and had to call, not all OS travelers have this ability. Where it was located was overgrown and I had to get on my hands and knees to access it. If this was my mother this would have been an impossible feat. The information in the apartment in regards to rubbish and what is required on checkout is very out of date and confusing depending on which one you read.

Thank you for feedback with regards to your stay at Poet's Corner. It sounds like you had a lovely time at the cottage and thank you for the feedback. We will look at updating the details with regards to the bin collections dates. We hope to welcome you back again very soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The property wifi was unusable, the smart tvs would not stream from the wifi and in fact it was so poor we were unable to even down load emails which was frustrating as my husband runs an internet business and needed to do a small amount of work."

The phone signal is incredibly poor in the area so without wifi down loading any data was impossible. The wifi looked to be running from a 4G network would suggest a broadband connection would be more suitable. Other than this we found the house very well equipped and perfect for staying in with family in an ideal location to walking into the village with our toddler.

Thank you for your feedback. We can only apologise for the Wi-Fi issues that you experienced during your stay and hope that you were still able to enjoy your time away. We have since replaced the Wi-Fi and it is now up to scratch. We hope that you will stay with us again in the future and thank you once again for your feedback. Best Wishes, Manor Cottages. Lastly, the internet we didn’t have any connections for the first 4 days, (was the jubilee bank holiday)I finally contacted manor cottages, who sent somebody out within 15 mins, brilliant response! to look at the problem, the chap was unable to sort, seems that e portable router/boaster wasn’t present, so the next day at noon, chap arrived with a replacement router. Everything you could need was supplied in the property. It was clean, warm and had very comfortable beds. To have the parking spaces is a real must in such a tourist hot spot. There is a very good Co-op in walking distance. We've never seen such a good one. The property was as described on the easy to use Sykes website and the communication from them was excellent. The church bells that do ring every 15 minutes 24/7 did not bother us at all, we did sleep at the back of the house and it was no problem and an extra delight was the bell ringing practise on the Wednesday night. Quintessentially English. Lovely.

  • "Lovely house in a perfect location."

We had a lovely time and the beds were all super comfortable. Just a few little things which would have made our stay easier and could be easily rectified:- The clothes horse was in pieces so they need a new one especially as we needed to wash face masks. There was no spatula to use with frying pan to cook our bacon and a glass bowl and jug would be useful so we could mix our scrambled eggs. The only bowls were cereal bowls which we used to mix everything. A mirror in the double room on first floor is needed as there is no where to dry or straighten your hair which on holiday is a must! However loads of cups; bowls and glasses which was great so that you could use the dishwasher and still have plenty to use. I would recommend as just a short walk to the centre and lots of lovely walks in the area. Lovely furnishings and lovely second lounge.

We are light sleepers so struggled a bit until we got used to them. Also the cottage could do with a cafetière (one is shown in the pictures but not actually there) and a fish slice as it was tricky getting our fried eggs out of the pan with a wooden spoon! The location is a real bonus in a very busy town as you can leave the car at the property and not have to worry about finding parking. You can also drive in and out of town on Lansdowne without having to negotiate the busy town centre. Although it is opposite and set below a school on one side and the church is to the front, we were not bothered by noise from either. The accommodation is light, modern and well-equipped, with super views from the top floor over the town roofs to countryside beyond.

Nice to have a garden. The Cottage was very clean and felt homely. Washing machine, dishwasher, oven and microwave. Excellent cooking facilities! The location was perfect, could walk in to Button on the water, and not far from other locations. The only downside, no tumble dryer or a washing line in the garden would of been handy. Did expect a Welcome pack as in a box of eggs, bread, milk and a cake. This would be nice set up on the table, with the information folder. I know this cant be changed but the showers were small!

There was an second living room on the first floor as well, which was a bonus. We could not have asked for a better place for members of the far-flung family to meet and stay. Loved the underfloor hearing in the living area downstairs! Only one 'grumble' was the lack of help in operating the hob and microwave. Not used to a convection hob, I had to download the instruction book onto my tablet to find out how to turn it on! Once I did so, it was great, but without that I was lost. Also took a while to work out the microwave, but I/we did using the trial and error method.

  • "The property and location were an excellent fit for us."

We were a couple plus my partner's parents, so our ages ranged from 59 to 89. There were a lot of stairs between the top and bottom, but we were agile enough and they presented no problem. We managed to chip a plate and break a cup in the sink and would suggest the simple addition of a standard sink bowl (We replaced both with similar, even though the chipped plate is usable) The showers on both floors were great, but a more standard shower head on a flexible hose might have been better. The small floor-space of the shower with a large overhead shower is difficult to trust when you don't know how hot/cold it will be. All the rooms were excellent, of good size and the furnishings were nice. It felt modern and clean at all times whilst being literally a hop/skip and a jump away from the church and the very centre of the village. The private parking was brilliant and I found that when taking the elders to the nearby attractions (De La Hayes Cafe/Birdland/Model Village/ Shopping Areas) the easiest thing was to drive them there and then bring the car back to the house and walk to rejoin them and then collect the car later. It was a way better option than pay and display parking when you have no idea how long you're going to be. Overall, extremely pleased and hope we can return in the not too distant future

The room was really to small to fit 2 single beds in and in doing this you couldn’t shut the door, so very little privacy. About the location

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER

Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
