  • "Perfectly wonderful, a really lovely cottage, clean ."

I took my own bedding as I was concerned about getting marks from my dogs paws on the white bedding. The pillows are super puffy and look as though they would be cosy but sadly as soon as you pop your head on, they flatten out. Maybe suitable for others but not for me. I will take my own pillows in the future. The shower was perfectly adequate although after a very short while the shower went cold on 3 days which were on the coldest days of our 5 day stay. We really enjoyed staying here and would certainly return, we used the farm shop for many lovely foods, the homemade lasagna is delicious. Chocolate cake left by Jo was lovely not only in taste but also in gesture , thank you .

  • "A great place in beautiful countryside."

Ross is a good half hour / forty minute walk away (along a narrow road unless you find the cut through behind the church accrossthe fields!). River is 15 min walk away. Lovely farm shop around the corner which our grown up "kids" loved! Outdoor space is great, esp if the weather is not so good, and extra fridge/freezer came in really handy. Lots to see and do in the area (canoeing, butterfly farm, forest walks). Ross is also very dog friendly. Had a lovely holiday.

  • "Wonderful place to relax and unwind."

My husband and I have just spent 2 fantastic weeks in this gorgeous converted barn. Minutes from Ross on Wye, yet deep in the Hereford countryside . Very well equiped throughout, although I would agree with other reviewers that a bit more comfort is needed downstairs in the kitchen/dining/seating area. We made full use of the farm shop at the end of the lane and the farm itself is a delight to walk around with easy access to walks along the river Wye and plenty of walks in all directions from the village. Jo (the owner) was very welcoming. Friendly and informative, nothing was too much trouble. We hope to revisit in the future.

  • "The cottage was lovely for our needs of meeting up with family and friends located centrally for everyone in a lovely environment."

The house was well equipped for us, glad of a dishwasher although only a half size was great. Also with a baby having a washing machine was very useful and a must for us on the road for 4weeks. The problem we all had was finding a comfortable seat the dining chairs are very hard and the living room seats don't give not much back support, so some nice seats for 6 people to relax in would be a bonus. Otherwise it was very pleasant. We made full use of the farm shop round the corner and enjoyed some nice walks.

  • "We absolutely fell in love with the Hayloft."

It was the perfect place and setting for our 3 day family breakaway with my twin sister and our 3 teenagers and a dog. The secluded garden was great for the dog to roam and for the teenagers to play ball games. We ventured from there to GoApe, Pedalabikeaway and the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford. We were impressed with the nearby well stocked honesty shop and enjoyed the local walk through the farm to the River Wye. My sister agreed that the Hayloft was the ideal home where we'd like to live. It had a wonderful feel, oozed rustic charm and was simply beautiful. We felt supremely catered for and warmly welcomed. Thank you!!!

We had everything we required for our stay. I would recommend only the following for future guests - bring some indoor 'grippy' shoes as the floors are cold downstairs and the wooden floors and stair not suitable for walking around in socks. Maybe a note for the owners to provide lighter duvets for the beds in summer as we were too hot with winter duvets. But an excellent base for exploring the Wye Valley

The furnishings and fittings were very much in keeping with the ethos of the place but nevertheless very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and worked well. Shower small but size dictated by the building and great to have a shower as well as separate bathroom. We were lucky with weather and spent a lot of time for coffee and lunch in the delightful outside court yard. Separate lodge type edifice in the garden great to keep our bike in and also housing another fridge freezer. Very pleasant walks around the village with lots of footpaths, delightful church building being turned into a community facility. Not dramatic countryside but lots of it and cycle ride into Ross each morning very convenient missing out all main roads. All all, a very clever conversion or rebuild making a super holiday retreat.

There is only a very old and uncomfortable sofa big enough for 2 people. Everyone else would have to sit in wooden dining chairs. The proprietor was constantly rummaging through the recycling bins and letting herself into the garden area. Made us wonder whether she was entering the property when we were out. To further finish this point, she proceeded to start cleaning the windows at 8.30pm on our last evening, looking in through the kitchen window and invading our privacy. Whilst the cottage is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it is strangely uncomfortable and I would not recommend to anyone who wants privacy, comfort or peace and quiet as the local tractor rumbled past the house at 6am each morning waking everyone up. Would not recommend unless you fancy a week in a "homes and gardens" magazine house!

The property

Ross-on-Wye 2 miles.

A fabulous barn conversion dating from the 19th century, in a rural location in the grounds of the owner’s home, close to Ross-on-Wye and The Forest of Dean in the beautiful Wye Valley. The Hayloft has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated using all its original structures in keeping with its surrounding area.

This unique property can offer three lovely bedrooms, and would be suitable for a family or friends who wish to enjoy a peaceful break in this delightful location.

Enter through the large glass sliding door and take in the stylish atmosphere, with a deliberate mixture of vintage and modern furniture and décor, the cottage has made use of its original beams and sleepers, offering a homely yet contemporary feeling.

The open-plan living area offers a dining area upon the dark slate tile flooring, where you can gather for the evening meal, or relax at the breakfast bar with a drink, before retiring to the seating in front of the woodburning stove.

The cottage has the added benefit of a ground-floor bedroom and two ground-floor bathrooms, while two staircases bring you to the rustic first-floor accommodation featuring exposed beams and original slatted timbers.

One set of stairs leads to the king-size room, with the other leading to the twin room and the splendid sitting room which is home to an inviting leather sofa, TV and a selection of books, the perfect place to curl up watching your favourite show or getting lost in a book.

An original door from the sitting room to the larger bedroom is restricted in height, another feature telling the historical story of the property, hence why the owner thoughtfully added the second staircase.

A further individual touch is the outdoor covered seating area, complete with a bar which is the perfect place to relax with friends on a summer evening, unwinding with a refreshing drink.

The Hayloft is situated in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside offering many walking and cycling routes right from your doorstep.

Take a trip to the nearby riverside town of Ross-on-Wye to enjoy the selection of tearooms, pubs and local shops, before continuing to wander alongside the meandering River Wye, keeping your eyes peeled to observe the local wildlife.

For the more adventurous, many outdoor activities can be enjoyed in the surrounding area and the Forest of Dean, such as mountain biking, canoeing, climbing and many more.

The Hayloft is a characterful and querky property, providing beautiful holiday accommodation in a unique style.
