  • "We have stayed at Appledene before and really enjoy the quiet village it is in."

The sound of the church bells and the birdsong in the garden is great for a relaxing stay. It is a beautiful place to stay for a week and comfortable and quite well equipped in the small kitchen. There were just 2 things I would like to negatively comment on. Both the single and the double bed would benefit from new mattresses - the double had a big dent in each side (left and right sides about half way down) and both were not very comfortable. The shower needs mould removing from the sealant round the edge. These things did not detract from the peace and quiet relaxing break that we returned to the cottage for!

  • "What a fantastic little cottage."

Extremely well equipped, and a lovely surprise of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits on arrival. Well placed for exploring the Cotswolds and further afield. We used the train station at Ashchurch, which not only has excellent train links, but also the added bonus of free parking all week. To sit on the patio, surrounded by beautiful scents of the differing plants in the garden was a joy,and the nightly visit from Mr Hedgehog was an added bonus. Only two drawbacks,be very careful of the sharp turn into the drive ( after a day or so I mastered it ) and the internet went down on our third day there ( no doubt I could have contacted the owner, but hey ho,surely we can all do without Facebook etc for a couple of days). Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and we will hope to return in a couple of years time. Miss King, you should be very proud of what you offer.

There is plenty of hot water and the heating is good . The only down side are the stairs . It is an old cottage and of course it is understood that they aren't modern but if you have mobility problems , as we have to an extent , we didn't always feel safe . Never the less we had a lovely holiday and the cottage is ideally placed for towns and country , in a pretty village .

The tea tray and roses were a lovely addition. The cottage garden was a beautiful place to relax, after visiting local villages, at the end of the day. The kitchen was well equipped and the furnishings were comfortable but in keeping with the cottages character. I loved the idea of two rooms downstairs, one for watching TV, and one for relaxing and eating. Quite a variety of wildlife seen, the cottage plants attract a variety of insects. Due to a knee operation had mobility issues and the stair rail and walk in shower were really helpful. Overall a terrific stay and would definitely come back.

No traffic noise just birds singing and sound of church bells in the distance (not a nuisance, rather comforting actually!). Lovely cottage, warm and cosy with everything we needed - and the luck of good weather too! Ideal touring base for the Cotswolds, Malvern and surrounding area.

Milk, Tea, Coffee, Suger, Biscuits, even Flowers were Waiting for us on arrival. Exceptionally Clean throughout. Well equipped in the kitchen. When having your morning coffee - you can enjoy all the birds feeding in the Pretty Garden. We enjoyed Wonderful Walks around the Area. Over the Hills to Kemerton was a Challenge - But worth it for all the Spectacular Views - Plus the Crown Pub is a must. The Anchor Pub, in Eckington, is also a must -- Great Fish n Chips. Also if you like Sausages and Bacon -- The Local Farm Shop, 5 mins from Cottage -- Is a must. We only had two concerns -- Extra care must be taken on the Stairs -- -- This is due to them being very narrow and going round at a bend. Attention is needed for the Shower -- -- Water goes Cold very quickly - Like Ice Cold -- -- Plus the Water Doesn't Drain Away within the Shower Enclosure very quickly -- Thank you to Sally for this great little Haven.

Thank you for your feedback and pleased you enjoyed the local walks and the nice pubs. Apologies about the shower - I will have someone look at it straightaway. Best wishes, Sally. Property Owner

We really enjoyed our stay. Not for publication: We believe that recycling is very important so we washed and kept everything that could be recycled. We put it in a cardboard box in the kitchen and brought it back to Guernsey to recycle. When we got back we saw on the side of the box that it could have been recycled at the village. Apologies for missing that, maybe the notice could be more prominently displayed for others staying in the cottage.

It was electric not gas as stated. It was perfectly acceptable. Everything super clean. The owner Sally King responded promptly and efficiently when I telephoned to let her know the village had no water due to fault with water main. She kindly drove over with bottled water arriving about 15 minutes later around 1800 hours I think. Good to meet her too. Lots to see and do in the area and lovely to be able to just set off on foot from the cottage for a pleasant country walk. Just a few miles drive beautiful Eckington circular walk much of which along the Avon, starting at the old bridge with a handy picnic/car parking area. Also walk by the Severn at historic Tewkesbury. No need to search for supermarket I supported the village shop/PO at Bredon - very well stocked and excellent selection of bread, and pleasant service.

  • "Pleasant cottage in very quiet village."

The patio doors from the newer single storey extension face towards the evening sun and provide a lovely room with views onto the cottage garden. However if you need to connect with WiFi it is necessary to sit in the lounge within the old cottage, which is dark and, because of the thick cottage walls, cool, even on the hottest day. Excellent walking straight from the door. Easy access to Bredon Hill and most of the footpaths in the area are well signposted and easy to follow. Good cycling on reasonably flat roads. We met at least 100 cyclists on a sunny Sunday in April when we cycled round the base of Bredon Hill.

Everything had been thought of, from hand-wash and cleaning products to coffee, milk and tea. With all of the kitchen appliances and utensils we could easily have lived here for a long time. The cottage was clean and felt cosy, it would be delightful in the winter but during the hot summer weather the thick walls also served to keep the place cool. Lovely patio area in the small cottage garden made for a beautiful location for breakfast each morning before a busy day sightseeing and returning 'home' in the evening to the tranquil surroundings broken only by the gentle bells of the nearby church was heaven. The owner really thought of everything, from information on local facilities and attractions to instructions on how to use everything and a phone number in case we had any problems. I hope we get the opportunity to return.

The cottage is beautifully modernised but still keeps much of its original and historical features. The house was welcoming and very clean, with tea, coffee, milk and a bottle of wine on arrival. I visited during the colder month of February and I found the cottage to be quite cold, especially in the extension part. I believe a log burner or gas fire is needed to solve this problem as the single radiator did not heat the room very much at all.

  • "There is one thing that we want to mention and that is that Americans don't know that some keyholes in the UK are covered with a little metal plate over the top of the keyhole."

We stood outside the front door for approximately 20-30 minutes when we first arrived trying to figure out how to unlock the door. I finally remembered from my time living in the UK that sometimes there is a metal plate over the top of the keyhole. After I remembered that, we were able to unlock the door. If the hostess could let guests know that the keyhole has a metal plate covering it, it may help other American or foreign guest who stay there to be able to figure out how to unlock the door. Additionally, the other more substantial lock on the front door that was a dead bolt - it turned out that once we got into the cottage and looked at the locks that it wasn't even functional because part of the lock was missing. So we struggled for 20-30 minutes with getting into the cottage due to not knowing about the metal plate over the keyhole and that the second lock wasn't even functional. Also, it was very unclear how to get the furnace to switch on. Thankfully, we called the hostess who came to the cottage quickly and showed us that the furnace is a part of the hot water heater - again, we would have never known this because we are American and we don't have similar heating systems in the US so we would have not figured out how to turn the furnace on without the hostess' assistance. We tried to read the booklet provided on that and couldn't figure out what to do. Obviously, if you are British, you would know that there is a metal plate over a keyhole and that the furnace is part of the hot water heater but we didn't know. Otherwise, delightful cottage and delightful hostess. We had a lovely chat with the hostess when she came over to help with the furnace issue. Lovely cottage and lovely village. Staying in the UK is always too short so looking forward to next visit.

The pleasant furnishings and wealth of character make this cottage an ideal base for a romantic break in a unspoilt part of the country.

As you step inside the cottage the olde-worlde charm is evident with original beams and doors sitting alongside more contemporary furnishings.

The cosy sitting room is in the 17th century part of the cottage and makes a great place to sit and relax while the open plan living area is ideal for those summer days as the external doors can be opened so you can enjoy the birdlife in the garden.

The open plan area has a very well equipped kitchen and a dining area for a romantic dinner or just sit and relax as you plan the day's activities.

Outside the cottage garden provides a great place to unwind and forget the helter-skelter of everyday life.

Many lovely walks and cycle rides can be enjoyed from the doorstep of the cottage - head up Bredon Hill, one of England's Marilyns, to Parson's Folly where panoramic views of Malvern Hills, Vale of Evesham and Severn Valley can be enjoyed.

Look out for the Elephant Stone too!

A range of amenities can be found at Pershore and Tewkesbury, whilst the Regency spa town of Cheltenham is also within easy reach and worthy of a day trip.

A unique cottage for a memorable holiday at any time of year.

BREDON'S NORTON

Tewkesbury 5 miles; Pershore 6 miles; Malvern 9 miles; Cheltenham 10 miles.

The thriving village of Bredon's Norton nestles on the western slope of Bredon Hill on the northern edge of the Cotswolds. The village has many timber-framed 'cruck' cottages and a 14th century Manor House where it is reputed that Sir Walter Raleigh was a visitor. Bredon Hill is a National Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The towns of Tewkesbury and Pershore, both only a ten minute drive by car are famous for their abbeys and have excellent shopping facilities, and the regency spa town of Cheltenham, with its range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, pubs and famous Gold Cup horse racing is a short drive away, as is Broadway, a quintessentially English village, one of the most beautiful in the Cotswolds. Upton-upon-Severn lies on the banks of the River Severn, boasting a variety of 17th century buildings, and home to 'The Pudding Shop', as well as traditional inns, cafes and its very own museum. This charming country town plays host to many Jazz, Folk and Blues Festivals throughout the year, and has its own marina, a local vineyard and striking Heritage Centre. The beautiful town of Malvern and the dramatic Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, make a great day out and offer 100 miles of footpaths and bridleways over a 9-mile range of ancient rock. Bredon's Norton is centrally located for exploring attractions such as Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare, Warwick Castle, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water and numerous National Trust properties.
