  • "Positive points: Very accommodating owner - allowed us to check in anytime after 12 on Christmas Day and let us leave at 10:30 on checkout day."

Lovely location - quiet and with pretty views. Comfortable beds Plenty of towels Toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets and soap powder provided Kitchen good, and very well equipped Lots of games and dvds provided Excellent car parking Dog friendly Pretty Christmas tree set up for us Lovely hot tub Negative points: Access is along single track road for one mile, with very few passing places. On arrival we were informed that the owner had had to put the cold water taps for the upstairs sinks off, as there was hammering in the pipes. The implication was that this had happened that week, and as it was Christmas the plumber’s visit would have to wait. On tracking back in the reviews, I read that people have complained about this since last August and the issue has not been fixed. It was very problematic not having cold water upstairs, especially as the hot water ran extremely hot. We ended up having to use an upstairs toilet and going downstairs to wash hands. Had to clean teeth with hot water. The flushing of the toilets was a bit hit or miss. The downstairs toilet was mostly abandoned by us as it was so unreliable. No functioning lock on the downstairs toilet. The conservatory is unusable in the winter. Despite a heater being provided, it was extremely cold and damp. Mould on the walls in places. When it rains hard, the roof leaks in various places, especially onto the tv and dvd player. You wouldn’t really want to sit and relax in it anyway, as it is rather a hotch potch of old furniture and dog things and the dryer. Not really like the photo on the web. En-suite shower dirty and desperately in need of bleach. We were shown the food for the peacock’s daily visit. I didn’t put it out as it contained raisins, and these are toxic to dogs and we had two dogs with us. The fact there is a peacock who visits the property can be construed both in a positive and negative light. For us, with two dogs, it was a negative. Overall, it needs a good dose of TLC.

There was a freezer and a dryer which was not on the listing which made things much easier. Only negative was no cold water upstairs in either sink but this didn't cause us any issues. There was many little touches like flip flops, dressing gowns, games, dvd, walking maps and lots more provided which was all greatly appreciated. Single track lane to get to the property which was difficult but manageable and would not put us off returning. Overall. A lovely stay .

Garden needs much improvement. Settee in lounge seen better days with little support for back sufferers (like me). 2 leaks in roof in conservatory, had to use pot to collect spills. Cold water tap in ensuite doesn’t work. Stain on sheet/bedding. Bed was amazing. Care taken to ensure all facilities are at hand. This could be made so much better.

Phil gave us a good introduction to the area and made several recommendations. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and meeting the Peacock. Felt very private too. The hot tub was lovely. No issues with the lid, I managed it each time on my own. The main bedroom was very comfortable, huge bed clean and fresh. Nice shower too. We ate at the property each of the three nights we were there, on the first night we had been shopping but forgot salt for cooking , a lot of rental properties I’ve stayed in have some basics for guests. It wasn’t an issue as we got some the next day. The local area is beautiful and Phil recommended a nice walk. Only negatives were two of the wine glasses were quite dirty, probably put back by previous guests and not checked.

It was great. Warm welcome from Phil. The property is a good size with almost everything you need. Beds very comfortable. Sofa in the living room is feeling a little tired and the armchair has seen better days. But do not let this put you off, it really is worth a stay. Hot tub is a very nice way to chill out but, the lid is very heavy needs 2 even 3 people to remove & replace. With a few improvements it would be perfect. ( Phil did say he has a new lid on order, but will it be any lighter, I don't know) Downside is the vacate time...in our opinion 9am is to early 10 or even 11 would be much better... Thanks Phil we will definitely be coming back and recommending...

It's deeply rural yet only 20 mins drive from Hereford, with beautiful views especially from the gorgeous hot tub! We had plenty of hot water and there are 2 bathrooms as well as a downstairs cloakroom. There are walks from outside the door - be prepared for hills! Lots to do in the Wye Valley area, and some excellent local pubs. We hope to return!

  • "Generally lovely place in a beautiful location, great "base camp" stay to visit nearby things and a good place to get some very needed relaxing in."

It's a really nice touch that the owner has made up a mix of nuts and biscuits to feed the local peacock with, meaning he pops by to see if he can have lunch and allows you within a few feet of him. Only a few things to make this a complete 5 star experience; The cover for the hot tub is quite heavy, being relatively young and fit we managed it but this could pose a slight issue for older couples, though I'm not sure of a solution or work around for this. While only a minor annoyance the volume on the TV in the snug area goes up and down on its own, going from a whisper to a shout in a few seconds. Some of the building could do with a slight touch up, few holes in the walls where electrics have been modified in the past and not touched back in, but that's probably just me looking at a property from a trade perspective. Pressure on the en-suite shower is a little lower than would be expected considering the water pressure in the rest of the property is incredible. Didn't really get any instructions on how to leave the place, so washed everything up, put the bins out and stripped the bed/ put the towels by the washing machine and hoped for the best.

) Phil, the owner, was attentive but not intrusive. Few little issues, hot tub cover you have to actually lift this off onto a table. It was very heavy, if my husband was not there I would not of been able to take it off. The bed was so comfy and the hot tub was really lovely, with plenty of spare towels. I also got to meet Percy the Peacock which was lovely. The owner was very welcoming and we felt like it was a really good introduction to the property. I think there were only two small points possibly for improvement, but these are minor: - Trying to watch the TV in the lounge was a bit awkward. There was only Would suggest potentially blocking off the door into the dining room and getting a wider second sofa, or getting rid of existing sofas for a big corner one coving the dining room and french doors in the lounge, or swapping the lounge and dining room around (though unconventional) it might add more room. - As it is quite a distance from shops (and we arrived late in the evening) it would be really nice to provide a starter pack of some food - such as eggs, bread, milk, jam etc). With hindsight we should have come prepared but similar properties that we've travelled to (including during the pandemic) have done this for similar reasons. It has absolutely everything you need. We used it as a base to venture out each day; Wilton for a walk along the river, Ross on Wye for fish and chips, Perrygrove trains (twice!), the Three Castles of Gwent where we paddled in the river Monnoe at Skenfrith, Lydney Harbour for the biggest and best 99, Cyril Hart Arboretum so my son and dog could run around and be nature adventurers. If you don't mind single track roads then I'd definitely recommend getting out. We done a single track all the way to Wales on one day! We done the 'blue' walk once but the steep road was too much for my 6 year old. Loved a bit of foraging though; sloes, plums, apples, cob nuts and blackberries! Then after all that, coming back for a soak in the hot tub and watch the stars come out and spot the bats. The robes there were a fantastic touch to put straight on after the tub. You'll need a break for some R&R after a wonderfully busy week here! We're exhausted but what adventures we had and what memories we made.

  • "We had a wonderfully relaxing break with our autistic son (who has just turned 18) in this smart, well appointed accommodation."

This was genuinely home from home: cosy, comfortable and everything you could ever need. Phil (who lives next door) was warmly welcoming but we very much had the place to ourselves which included the fabulous hot-tub and the peacock-feeding kit! Tom had a wail of a time and we de-stressed. Strongly recommended and thanks!

The only problem we had was the cleanliness, there was still fluff and water in the tumble dryer from the other people that were there, the cups had dirty stuff in them and it was a little dusty, other than that's I couldn't pick any other faults :) and the owner was very lovely

  • "The cottage is lovely and in a fantastic area away from everyone."

It has everything that you need already there and you just need to bring food. From a well equipped kitchen to crocks and dressing gowns so you can go in and out of the hot tub - which is high quality and has a lovely change of lights to set the mood. The owner has created a brilliant information book of local walks, pubs and is very welcoming on arrival. The garden is lovely and is laid to shingle. You have use of a BBQ with gas already. Sky TV for all the channels you need all in high definition. Dishwasher / Washing machine / Tumble Dryer / Microwave and a good size free standing freezer along with the usual other white goods. The bedrooms are lovely and spacious and high quality mattress made for a good night sleep! The cottage has two bedrooms - one with a shower on-suite/toilet and the 2nd bedroom next to a lovely bathroom//toilet with a free standing bath. Downstairs is another toilet room. The views outside are of country and fields - The silence is deafening - It is tranquil A large conservatory that has two sofas and a TV and a lovely lounge which is cozy Dogs: We brought our two dogs who loved the place. The shingle outside did hurt their feet a little - but that's because they ran so much! There is a resident Peacock who visits the garden and there is a supply of nuts so you can enjoy feeding it. I can not think of any negative things to say. Recommend visiting The Loughpool Bar and Restaurant - A very quaint building. Lunch was amazing in a good size garden
