Ive stayed many times in cottages in the cotswolds areas and never had to arrive so late and leave so early

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. We're glad you liked the property and loved the location too. The housekeeper has confirmed that all the cutlery and crockery was run through the dishwasher prior to your stay. The owner has kindly agreed to amend the check-in time to 4.00pm. Shenley is so tastefully decorated, with antique furnishings in keeping with the characterful property. The bathroom and kitchen are modern and well-equipped. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The lounge is a pleasure to be in with its relaxing ambiance. All areas were spotlessly clean. Broadwell is well situated for trips to many Cotswold villages, including a pleasant forty minute country walk to Stow-on-the-Wold. The village pub is welcoming, with a full menu. Thank you to the owners for sharing the property with us and for the welcoming cake and milk. Would be happy to return.

The sofa and chairs were very uncomfortable and the chrome hospital canteen trolly that the tv is on.... The pictures downstairs are terrible, extra large painted portraits of people just staring at you in the living room and kitchen. Didn't unpack as the cupboards upstairs are damp.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the property. We are in contact with the owner, in order to investigate. The TV is on a smart Ikea trolley, so that it can be moved with ease. We are sorry that the paintings were not to your taste, but these are clearly shown on the photographs of the property. We hope that you enjoyed exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely long weekend at Shenley."

The cottage has lots of charm and was spotlessly clean on arrival. I would say any previous comments have been noted by the owner because everything was perfect on arrival. The kitchen has everything you need and the rooms are all very spacious. My only small gripe is that maybe a welcome basket/hamper could be provided with a couple of local items to start you off, but this certainly wouldn't stop me from returning. Broadwell itself is a charming little village, centred around the green. Our kids loved playing on here and watching the cars drive through the ford in the road. The local pub 'The Fox Inn' is also very good and well worth a visit for both food and drink. Would thoroughly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your lovely feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time away and we appreciate your suggestions for improvement. We hope that we can welcome you again one day soon. Best wishes, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

The kitchen was modern, well-equipped and clean. The bathrooms were also immaculate; one with a large, efficient shower. The beds were particularly comfortable. The single beds were wider than expected, with the same snow-white bedding as the super-king. With its calm and relaxing ambiance, Shenley was a pleasure to return to after a busy day sight-seeing. Would love to return someday.

Lovely sitting room, log fire superb. Kitchen could do with more plates etc to make the dishwasher worth using, ended up hand washing. Beds extremely comfortable and bathrooms a treat. The heating controls need to be explained in the information book, its set to come on at different times, which couldn't be changed and it did get quite cold at times, especially upstairs. It didn't bother us but we could hear the mice in the walls at night, country life I suppose! We will book Shenley again, it was a great place with a lovely atmosphere.

Very comfortable beds. Great shower. If you don't like reversing down narrow lanes , park at the bottom of the road. Take your own tin opener as there isn't one. Close to Stow in the Wold and Moreton in Marsh for pubs and restaurants. Some takeaway menus in the welcome pack would be handy. Tesco and Aldi nearby. Nearby pub , The Fox ..ok. Real ale was flat, warm and tasteless. Not being pulled that often. Go to Stow, better pubs.

Thank you for this review. We're glad you loved the property and found the beds comfortable and enjoyed the shower. Thank you also for your helpful recommendations regarding local pubs and supermarkets. It is indeed a good location and we hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

The only thing that let it down was the parking. In the listing it says there is parking for two cars. We had two fairly big cars and due to the access of the parking space it was impossible to get both cars in. Other than that it was a most enjoyable holiday.

Only minor points to mention are: - The property could do with a thorough dusting - lots of cobwebs visible. We took the liberty of cleaning some away. - The armchairs - the seating cushions need a some new padding. - notification that the rear garden is effectively shared/open. This may help should a tenant have a dog that isn't fond of children. The local residents let their children move freely and others may not appreciate this.

Thank you for leaving feed back. Fabulous you enjoyed the location and facilties. Apologies there was a problem with the housekeeping. This has been addressed with the housekeepers. Property Owner

  • "Loved the village and really liked the accommodation, especially the up to date kitchen and bathroom facilities."

However the parking was not as described in the listing, the driveway is shared and you are therefore asked to park on a gravel patch not shown in the picture, there was no turning space so it was necessary to reverse out and the drive was much longer than that pictured so it was difficult, in fact I scratched my car. Also the hanging space for clothes was damp and smelled of damp so you could not use it. These two things will stop me from rebooking.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Fantastic to hear you loved the village and were happy with the kitchen and bathroom facilities. Apologies there was a problem with the parking on the drive and an issue with the clothes hanging space. We will of course look into this for future guests. Property Owner

  • "Disappointing."

Shenley is a beautiful property, in a wonderful location, which is sadly not maintained well inside and out, and no longer lives up to the photos which must have been taken some time ago. The ground floor along with the stairs and landings need redecorating, but most importantly of all the house needs a deep clean. The garden is untidy, the space outside the kitchen has shabby furniture, broken fence, broken and unclean BBQ, there is a dead Christmas tree in the parking area. During our stay and after the previous review someone came along and cut the grass and tidied a little. As Alison who stayed in the house before us pointed out, the chairs in sitting room are truly uncomfortable, there are two better armchairs upstairs which would improve that situation. Also the handle on the log burner doesn't work so unable to close the door properly which is probably why the house smells of smoke. I have stayed in many holiday cottages which accept dogs and they have all been spotlessly clean. I really hope the situation with the cleaning is improved immediately for guests arriving from now on. On a positive note the bedrooms and bathrooms by comparison are very comfortable.

  • "Such a beautiful area in the Cotswold, lovely little village."

Beautiful old house and perfect for exploring the area. On the plus side the beds were comfy, shower was great and a well equiped kitchen, some lovely features in this old house, but it could do with some love & TLC, the house just doesn't look like the pictures anymore and not a cheap property to rent! Top bathroom tap on sink needs fixing, looks like been like this for a while looking at the visitors book. Sink in middle bathroom doesn't drain away. I understand that the lounge furniture needs to be in keeping with the antique feel of the place but the 3 armchairs are so so uncomfortable and need to be completely reupholstered, same with the sofa cushions. Bad backs all round!! And why oh why would you have the TV on a big metal catering kitchen trolley jn the lounge!!! The only entrance to house, door sticks. In the lounge with the woodburner, the only window can't be open so no ventilation, so previous use from previous visitors left a smokey smell. Back courtyard, a lovely place to have breskfast, but the table & chairs rusty and dirty, the BBQ broken and certainly wouldn't use due to being dirty, could do with weeding. Front garden needs some pruning and tidying. Whole house could do with a lick of paint and a deep clean. Just a little thing, every other visitor who commented in the book had a lovely cake left, we had a packet of biscuits!! Would stay here again as loved the area, providing these little things had been addressed, feel like the inside not had any attention since being used as a holiday let, which is such a shame for this wonderful property. It wouldn't take much.

The property

Resting in the peaceful village of Broadwell is this excellent Grade ll listed cottage, perched at the end of a short terrace that was once The Manor House in Broadwell, which is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds, housing many period properties and a friendly local pub.

Shenley overlooks the large village green and is the perfect base for you and your loved ones to enjoy a trip to the Cotswolds.

Upon arrival at the cottage, pull your car into the private driveway and make your way to the main entrance of the property.

You are welcomed by the well-presented stylish kitchen/diner which is complete with dining table with seating for six; perfect for socialising with your group and arranging your itinerary for your stay.

The soft furnishings and mix of contemporary and period features in the sitting area welcome you in with open arms.

The oak beams, stone mullion windows and beautiful stone fireplace with woodburning stove create a homely and comforting feeling for you to snuggle up and watch a film.

A handy cloakroom completes the ground-floor.

Once you’ve taken in the stunning surroundings of the ground-floor, make your way up to the first-floor where you are graced with two charming bedrooms and the shower room.

Overlooking the village green, the first bedroom is a characterful room and contains an inviting double bed.

The second bedroom is accessed down two steps and contains twin antique brass beds and an ornamental fireplace.

Into the eaves of the property, you will find the third bedroom which houses a generous super-king-size bed and benefits from an en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath; make the most of it and run yourself a relaxing bath to finish off your day.

The lawned area to the front of the cottage is home to a bench and table, outlooking onto the village green.

The rear of the property has a lovely courtyard area which has a table with seating for six for you to enjoy your meals alfresco.

There are plenty of places to see and visit around Broadwell.

Whether you love hiking or cycling, Broadwell is a region where hidden gems are waiting to be explored and visited.

One of the undiscovered beauty spots of the Cotswolds, Broadwell has it all; a broad village green surrounded by lovely Cotswold stone cottages, a gentle stream running through the village, a friendly inn - The Fox Inn, and a Norman church with some intriguing historical monuments.

Broadwell is home to St Peter & St Paul’s Church which is a large medieval cruciform church, dating back to the 12th and 14 centuries.

Venture further afield to Cotswold Wildlife Park which is set across a plot of 160 acres and is one of the premier family-friendly attractions in the Cotswolds.

Make your way through the park’s four distinctive sections, get up close to exotic animal species and admire the gardens.

Close by Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, is home to many attractions and straddles the River Windrush with low bridges.

Here, you can discover a miniature replica of the Cotswold-stone village at The Model Village, or enjoy a scrumptious picnic surrounded by wildlife at Birdland Park & Gardens.

For an unforgettable holiday, choose Shenley as your base.
