  • "Not really."

We enjoyed staying there very much. It was a lovely location and very secure. The owner was next door but not at all intrusive. Basically we really enjoyed out stay

  • "The property was cosy and very clean, it did not disappoint."

And the local walks were just amazing! Our dogs had a wonderful holiday with us and our only regret was that we were able to stay for just a couple of nights, due to our busy work schedules. Next time, we'll stay for longer.

  • "The accommodation was wonderful and good value for money."

Very spacious and well equipped. The owner, Jennie, was extremely helpful, with great suggestions for local sights (and was also very good at entertaining my youngest with trips to the hen house to collect fresh eggs). The property is well located, close to good walks, and with great views over the valley. Quiet and with the feel of being in the middle of the countryside and yet actually pretty close to facilities in Gloucester. Would definitely recommend.

  • "Misleading advert about pets."

No mention about pets being confined to a small laminated floor area on the ground floor as not allowed upstairs. We booked for 4 weeks due to building work at home and we were not informed until after we moved in that pets were not allowed upstairs. This rendered the cottage unsuitable for our needs as we have a small dog that follows the girls around everywhere they go. Shocking experience with sykes, no refund offered and we left 7 days early. WiFi didn't work downstairs. Sky TV failed to work for half the stay. Would not recommend and will never use again

Thank you for your review and I am very sorry that your stay with me was not as you had expected. Pets are very welcome at Haybarn and the outside space at the farm and back door access onto the Cotswold Way through Buckholt Woods are highlights for dogs. My terrier is very happy hunting daily in the woods! We do ask that dogs remain downstairs at Haybarn where they can relax in the whole ground floor area (kitchen/breakfast bar, sitting room and bathroom/hall way), in addition to the secure garden, for good reasons. The upstairs is finished with light cream carpets, white/cream/pale blue bed linen and cream curtains, and due to the cottage style of the roof the curtains sit at floor level where dogs can lie/rub/look out. I note that cleanliness is rated highly in your review and I am very keen that this remains high as it is very important to my guests. At present the changeover time is 6 hours (if guests leave promptly) and in order to be able to thoroughly clean to Covid guidance standards I need this time 100 percent. If there were additional issues of dog marks/fur on cream carpets or curtains, or picking hairs off bed throws or sheets (yes I have had this) it becomes impossible to maintain these high standards and unfair to the incoming guests. Some of my guests are not pet owners and therefore the presence of hair and fur is even more noticeable to them. I have seen dogs scratching at the ground level windows from upstairs as they can see out and of course this puts claw marks on the 18 century windows and fur/dirt on the curtains. I would welcome all pet owners to bring their dogs and cats beds with them if they can or I can provide one for you, just ask. They can lie on these as well as on the sitting room rug which is thick, and the laminate throughout the ground floor. The heating is of course at your control so you can ensure that your pet is comfortable. Since Sept 2020 Haybarn is supplied by both Vodaphone (Gigacube) and BT (Openreach). The Gigacube is located downstairs and the extendors for the main BT router are located in the upstairs bedroom. Login details are provided within the Welcome pack and coverage is 100 pc throughout the property. I believe that Mr Beacham was only using the BT system and this does not reach to the downstairs but by switching to Vodaphone this issue would not have caused a problem. This was sadly not raised during the stay and so I could not help. Haybarn no longer offers Sky TV due to the improved WiFi which means that Netflix/Amazon Prime are favoured by most of my guests. I would urge all guests to raise any issues that they have with me straight away as I am on site and readily available to you to ensure that you have a fabulous holiday. Property Owner

  • "While Sykes Cottages I found to be average, the Hay Barn Cottage and host were absolutely brilliant."

She more than made our holiday special. The property, setting, and comfort were amazing and exceeded expectations. The cottage was well provisioned with all that you needed to cook and entertain like you were at home. Lots of space and yet very cozy. The setting was removed and very quiet. We got lost looking at the stars from the private gated garden. The dog loved it all! We will definitely be back.

  • "We had a great time at Hay Barn Cottage."

..lovely accommodation amidst beautiful scenery...very restful. Wonderful walks without having to use the car with a fascinating Roman villa over the fence! Jennie is a very helpful owner and did everything she could to keep us Covid-safe and told us about good local walks. Being there in the Autumn, we were able to enjoy apples from trees in the garden and appreciate the beautiful colours of the leaves in the adjacent beech woods. The cottage is close to Cheltenham and Gloucester. We very much recommend a visit to the nearby Cotswold town of Painswick and the village of Sheepscombe.

  • "An excellent, well-maintained cottage in a lovely location; the friendly and helpful owner living nearby was on hand to answer any queries and do whatever was needed to make our stay as enjoyable as possible."

I would certainly recommend this cottage for anyone wanting a 'get-away-from-it-all' break. A point to note, however, for those who don't want to be entirely out of touch (and about which nothing much can be done) is that the remote location means very weak internet and mobile phone signals; some may find this a blessing.

Next door to a Roman ruin and the woods with plenty of good walks. Not far to get to local shops, fuel stations and places to eat out. Everything inside the cottage that you needed during your stay to have a nice relaxing break. Jennie was very helpful and welcoming. Plenty of space upstairs with 3 large bedrooms & 3 bathrooms.
