  • "The property itself was lovely."

Could of done with a more comfortable lounge. The bed was very comfy. The location was brilliant. But..... the smell was awful. We had to keep the front door open the entire time because of the musty/dirty drains smell. Did report it and they placed lots of block air fresheners all over the place. This was another issue in itself. We left Thursday because we we had had enough by then.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at 10 George Yard. I'm sorry to hear that you had an issue with a smell at the cottage. Please note this is being investigated by the Owner. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "A sweet cottage and we appreciated the Christmas decorations and mince pies."

A great location and excellent woodburner. The kitchen was well equipped. We did feel the 6pm arrival was very late especially on a dark winter evening with snow and ice on the ground. We would also suggest swapping the rocking chair for a more comfortable armchair. Much as we like cosying up on the sofa, for a longer break it would be nice to be able to spread out a bit more in comfort. All in all an enjoyable stay thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at 10 George Yard. We appreciate your comments and we will be reviewing the check-in times in the new year. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely weeks stay in the cottage and loved the convenience of it to the High Street."

Hufkins was great for lunch etc but there are plenty of other eateries to choose from too. The cottage provided everything necessary that we required and was very clean. We found it very quiet in the evenings even though just behind the High Street. We loved it. Burford is very medieval and walking round some of the little streets we found delightful and the Church is well worth a visit. The Wildlife Park also made a good day out. Hope to revisit!

  • "Great location, quaint cottage, comfy bed, good shower."

Let down by filthy external windows and flaking paint. External paved area needs renovating as paving loose and makes for a tripping hazard. The kitchen has been fitted out on the cheap by an enthusiastic DIY. , plywood loose badly fitting flooring and cheap magnetic door fittings. Bit of a shame really, with money spent it could be excellent. Loved the area, hope to come back to Burford

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and we hope you enjoyed your stay in Burford. We appreciate you bringing some issues to our attention and will look into these matters and hope they didn't make a lasting impact on your stay. Property Owner

  • "The location of the cottage is absolutely perfect just off the High Street with easy access to lovely shops & bars."

The high Street has a healthy mix of gift shops , shoe and clothing shops, farm shops, deli, cheese shop & bakery. It is perfectly serviceable but could be so much more. Dare I say it needs a woman's touch to make it more comfortable. Its quite bare & would benefit from a throw in the lounge , more art or bric a brac to bring out its beauty (everywhere). One 2 seater sofa...no footstool. Uncomfortable rocking chair. The window paint outside is scruffy and peeling and doesn't give a good first impression, neither does empty or dead flower planters. None would be better. The patio area is broken and dangerous. Be ware. When we arrived (late) the sykes office was closed and we had no electricity. I rang the emergency number and left a message - there was no reply I began to feel upset , had my husband not realised that the cottage had a card for a meter that needed topped up at a local coop store (open til 10pm) we would have had no lights tv kettle shower....which would have been a disaster. The following morning when I rang the office number the problem was addressed within 30 minutes and £100 was added to our credit. We had by then realised there was no hot water in the bathroom sink so that was also reported & resolved quickly. Bed was comfortable & the linens & cottage was clean. Shower was good. The cottage wasn't particularly expensive and it was perfectly fine so I would stay again but I'd take more 'bits' to make it more cute and comfortable.

Thank you for leaving us constructive feedback. I have noted all maintenance issues and will pass on the message regarding paint to the owners. I'm so sorry you had these issues but i am glad we managed to get someone out to you quickly. We do hope to welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes, manor cottages Property Owner

  • "A very nice and comfortable cottage, only a stones throw from the high street yet in a quite location."

No real issues with parking although I guess it may be a different situation in peak season, but it was no problem. Would recommend booking dinner in advance especially at weekends at the local pubs, we found The Royal Oak and The Angel very good although the latter was a bit pricey with their wine list ! A lovely few days in a wonderful area. Would also recommend a trip into Oxford, the park and ride was brilliant. Hopefully we will return in the near future. Also as golfers , Burford Golf Course is a must, very friendly and a beautiful tree lined course.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "We loved the age of the property."

As we are members of the National Trust we appreciated the squeaky uneven floors and other quirky features. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The one thing missing was the instruction manual for the electric hob. I worked it out in the end after calling the emergency number in the folder but anyone who is not used to using this type of hob would struggle I think.

  • "Cottage was beautiful."

Very well presented and equipped. For a cottage set up for two people there was plenty of cutlery and crockery. Parking was a walk away but free at all times, also a very short walk to the High street. It was the perfect base to go to the Shakespeare we had booked at Blenheim Palace. Our only complaint is that there was only one small window we could open on the ground floor to allow cool air into the building. Towels & tea towels were provided.

  • "The cottage is really lovely set in a quaint side street off the main Burford High Street."

It has everything you need in the cottage and we really liked the fact that there was some milk in the fridge on our arrival. I would recommend a stay in this cottage especially as there are so many National Trust properties to visit from this location.

About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 2.4 miles; Little Barrington 3.5 miles; Minster Lovell 5.6 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, it is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located midway between Oxford and Cheltenham, it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits! With little change over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all within ten miles.
