"This was our second stay at 6 George Yard, Burford."
The cottage is very comfortable, well appointed with good amenities and the instruction book very helpful. The location could not be better - close enough to the High Street but far enough away not to be bothered by street noise. Our only complaint: we couldn't stay longer.
-
"Our second visit and we fund it just as good and cleln as last time."
Being an older property it does not have all the mod cons but they are more than enough to enjoy our holiday.
Thank you for this kind review. We're glad you enjoyed your second visit and hope we can welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"We loved our holiday at this delightful cottage so conveniently situated just off the High Street."
The cottage was very comfortable and had almost everything we needed for the stay. The only thing that was lacking was kindling for the log burner and only 1 log was provided.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed George Yard and the location of it. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

"Lovely cottage that's centrally located in Burford with lots of pubs nearby."
The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and feels like a home away from home. It was lovely and clean, and had everything we needed. The log burner was great in the evenings. Would definitely recommend and would come back if we ever visited again.

"Very well located , clean and tidy ."
If I was being pedantic couldn’t open the kitchen window and there were no pint glasses but we wouldn’t hesitate to book the cottage again should we wish to revisit Burford.

"A very cosy, comfortable and warm cottage."
Very tastefully decorated and furnished. Enjoyed the log burner every evening. Although no parking we never struggled to park in Sheep Street whatever time of day we returned. Our only small moan is not being able to get in till 6pm-too late. I would suggest having a touch on arrival in the winter to be able to see the keybox- there is no outside light on the front of the cottage. The location is fabulous, less than a minute to the High Street with its independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. A week is not long enough. Highly recommend.
Hi Carole Many thanks for your kind comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at George Yard. I take your point about the light situation for the key safe and will try to rectify that. I did try to contact you on the day of your arrival to advise you that you could have checked in at 2.00 pm but unfortunately I did not have a mobile number for you just a land line. We look forward to welcoming you back to George Yard in the future. Regards Barry & Mandy Property Owner

"Beautifully decorated and maintained property situated off the High Street."
Easy access to all shops, restaurants and pubs within a secluded courtyard. Although you cannot park by the property, easy access for spaces along Sheep Street a 1/2 minute walk away. Very comfortable bed and all essential provided. A bottle of wine and fresh flowers as a welcome was a lovely touch. As was the telephone call from Barry to let us know we could get into the property a little earlier. All in all, another splendid visit with Sykes.
Thank you for providing this lovely feedback. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay and all the local amenities. We look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

"We were very happy with No 6."
It was very clean and comfortable with a lovely atmosphere. Everything functioning as it should, furnished in a style that befitted the age of the cottage. A nice bunch of roses and bottle of wine to greet. A nice touch was the call on the day to say the cottage was ready earlier than advertised. Would visit again.
Thank you your kind comments. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at No. 6 and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Thank you Barry & Mandy Property Owner

"First of all, thank you so much for a lovely stay and for the wine, milk and Poinsettia, we had a lovely Christmas break in your charming cottage and felt very much at home."
We were wondering how warm the cottage would be as it had storage heating but we weren’t at all cold although we only discovered the heater instructions as we were leaving as someone had shoved them in amongst the “walking “ info, fortunately we managed to suss it out. The only other negative was that the contract cleaners need to do a more in-depth clean/ carry out proper checks between changeovers; in particular, in the kitchen - some of the cutlery and utensils weren’t clean and there was a build up of hair and other debris both in the utensils drawer and the cutlery tray so I had to wash and clean everything before cooking anything. Similarly, although the bath, washbasin, taps, shower screen and toilet were perfectly clean there were ‘forgotten’ areas in bathroom where there was again a build up of debris and grime on the tiling around bath and wooden boxing in of pipes and tiles under towel rail; they hadn’t been wiped over in a while. Sykes rightly remind guests to leave the property as they found it but in our case it was left cleaner - we stayed from 22nd to 29th December. Hope you don’t mind this honest feedback, we just mean to be helpful . We would gladly stay again, we chose your property over others for its charm, character and of course you have to have a cosy wood burner at Christmas. Many thanks, Kate and David Gurmin
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage over the Christmas break. Your comments regarding the cleanliness have been noted and as a result we intend to carry out a thorough clean of the cottage especially in the areas you mentioned.. We apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you during your stay and we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope to welcome you back to George Yard again in the future. Kind regards Barry & Mandy Property Owner

"Comments were left in the visitors book for the owner to look at."
We were particularly interested in the old furniture and wall hangings and would have liked some information as to their origins. The cottage was really cosy and warm and the owner had kindly left us milk and wine plus fresh flowers in the property. A lovely touch.
thank you kind comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in 6 George Yard. The furniture and wall hangings throughout the cottage are mainly antiques as I used to be in the antiques business and thought that the cottage needed some character. If you wanted any information on anything particular I would be happy to supply any information I can. Kind regards Barry Property Owner

"Cottage is cosy , homely and compact."
. perfect for a couple. The antique bed is gorgeous and very comfortable ( and the mirror in the bedroom not only makes you look taller but slimmer too! ) Great location off High Street. Burford is a beautiful town and you’re spoiled for choice for eating, drinking and shopping. Train to Oxford and London Paddington from Kingham just 20 mins drive away. Owner left some lovely wine, flowers and wine which was nice touch and the Co-op just through the close and a couple of shops down was great for essentials. Can highly recommend.

"George Yard has become our home away from home."
This was about the tenth time we have stayed there. Loved the additional touches this year, the flowers, fresh fruit and milk in the fridge. Barry went out of his way to make us feel welcome.

"The location was absolutely perfect and a stone throw from Main Street."
I’m a cleanliness freak and this property was brilliantly clean and that was even by my standards. The standard of cleanliness throughout the whole cottage was extremely high. There was everything in the property that you could ever need for self catering. The bed was the most comfortable that I’ve ever slept on when away. The bedding was obviously of good quality and smelled lovely. This cottage is lovely and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a home from home. We loved it there (especially as we could pop to Huffkins for breakfast)!. Parking was difficult at times due to time of year. Mostly we parked in main car park down the hill and walked up. On the day of vacating property we loaded the car up at the designated area. We then drove up the little lane to go home and met a car coming towards us (driven by elderly man who lives next door to number 6). He has a parking spot near to his home at the end of lane by barrier. There is no room for two cars and we ended up having to reverse right the way back down the lane to where we loaded up because the other car wouldn’t reverse just a tiny bit to let us through. It was a shame he treated us like that at the end of the holiday but maybe he just gets fed up of parking issues. On dull days we found the cottage was a little chilly . There are however electric heaters if needed but I didn’t like to use them in summer.

The property
6 George's Yard is the very essence of a cosy Cotswolds cottage.
Very charming and very cosy.
Hidden down a little walkway just off Burford High street, this beautifully furnished cottage is a real gem and simply ideal for enjoying this wonderful location.
The antique dealer owners certainly know how to furnish this period cottage, with the sumptious Chesterfield sofa and the period pieces of furniture mixed with some classic features give this the authentic feel and atmosphere.
Stroll, literally, from your front door to Burford High Street and enjoy a Huffkin's breakfast, (not to mention the pubs too...) or just peruse the shops!
This is such a sweet cottage, just perfect for wandering into the fabulous little shops or cafes on the high street.
About the location
Burford
Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.
The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!
With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
