“Lovely cottage on a quiet farm.”

Clean and well equipped. Very welcoming, helpful and friendly owners. Activities to occupy young and teenage children as well as the adults. Clean and well equipped. Very welcoming, helpful and friendly owners. Activities to occupy young and teenage children as well as the adults. We enjoyed tennis, table tennis and snooker which were a blessing for the rainy days we unfortunately experienced. The swimming pool looked inviting but for the weather. We took advantage of the fields and walks with our dog exploring the area around the river Avon at the bottom of the hill. Easy access to local attractions and facilities in Bath, Stonehenge, Swindon and the Cotswolds - depending on what interests you. We took the opportunity to visit Stonehenge and Old Sarum (Salisbury) as they were dog friendly. Planning to return as it is a good base with things to do if you do not want to travel far. Thank you from all of us including the dog who enjoyed watching the guinea fowl from her lead!!

The property

One of five cottages in a traditional courtyard development on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, Orchard Cottage is a classic Cotswold stone cottage, expertly converted from original farm buildings into an attractive holiday home. Inside, you’ll find clean and tidy rooms with a contemporary kitchen and plenty of space for a small family.

Surrounding the property is a 370 acre working dairy farm, where you’ll come across a wide variety of animals (cows, peacocks, guinea fowl and turkeys) which should delight the kids (they can even be shown around the farm), as well as an abundance of wildlife too.

Heavenly!

The farm is criss-crossed by a number of walks including paths through a bluebell woodland and along a stretch of the River Avon.

For those seeking an active getaway, there are tennis courts (bring your own racquets and balls), as well as an outdoor swimming pool and BBQ, with a snooker table inside the cottage and table tennis available outside.

The cottages overlook the beautiful Avon Valley with magnificent, south facing views over rolling grassland, the Wiltshire Avon and beyond to the distant Marlborough Downs.

For larger groups, Orchard Cottage can be booked with Stable Cottage, sleeps two, The Granary, sleeps five , Bottom Barn, sleeps five and Cow Byre which sleeps seven.

Malmesbury dates back to the Iron Age and reputedly the oldest borough in England, the pretty market town of Malmesbury is located on a hilltop in the southern Cotswolds.

Malmesbury is steeped in history and offers visitors over 400 listed buildings, a 15th century Market Cross, a ruined 7th century Benedictine abbey, an annual carnival and many independent shops, cafes and traditional pubs.

The annual Womad Music Festival is close by at Charlton Park.
