“We went with our 2 daughters and their families (also my father who is 91) and really enjoyed half term week there in October.”

When we arrived, we lacked for nothing, hand wash, washing up liquid, coffee, tea & sugar etc. and there were lots of those 'little finishing touches' that made our stay even more special like: a vase of fresh flowers on the dining table, chocolates on the coffee table and even a homemade chocolate cake, which was very much appreciated! ...

There is good walking right on your doorstep in that there is a large common with many different walks over and around it, particularly good if you have dogs with you. There is also a children's park a few hundred yards away, which is probably much better in summer but we found it a bit sparse i.e. very few swings etc. for the size of the field - could be improved upon by the local council! We were very lucky and had beautiful weather throughout the week and nobody really wanted to leave especially our 2 year old grandson, who cried when we had to leave and cried again when we got home!

The property

This is a wonderful, detached cottage, located in the ancient village of Cranham, surrounded by beautiful countryside and just a short drive to Gloucester and Cheltenham.

With a home-from-home feel, the cottage benefits from plenty of natural light and makes an ideal base for a family gathering or get-together with friends.

You enter the property through the front porch, which provides space for walking gear and drying off your dog.

From here you walk into the kitchen/diner, with space for the whole party to sit down to a celebratory dinner.

After which, guests can retire to the sitting room with a warming woodburning stove and lovely views of the countryside beyond.

The ground floor also houses a small snug/reading room which has the added benefit of a double sofa bed, next to which is a double bedroom and shower room.

A useful utility can be found at the rear of the cottage with a door to the side of the property.

Make your way upstairs to the four lovely bedrooms, the master having en-suite facilities and a raised area by the window for you to sit and enjoy the view.

A sliding door from the dining area takes you to the rear garden which consists of a decked area, lawned garden with patio and a wonderful roof terrace, all of which provide seating.

Loungers can be found on the roof terrace where views can be enjoyed to the front and rear of the cottage, ideal for relaxing on a summer's day.

Just 200 yards away is a play area with a football pitch, swings, roundabout and zip wire, a perfect way for the kids to use up that last of their energy.

Numerous walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep on Cranham Common, a National Nature Reserve home to rare flora and fauna.

The Cotswold Way, Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way all run close by and you can stroll to the village pub for a well-deserved drink and a home-cooked meal.

Close by are the pretty towns of Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud, while Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust and The Forest of Dean also make a great day out.

This is a fantastic cottage to be enjoyed all year round.
