  • "Situated centrally in Mitcheldean."

Near Shops, takeaways & 2 very friendly pubs. The accommodation was very clean, comfortable & well laid out. On arrival greeted by owner who helped us settle in (showed us where everything was & layout of area). Although the weather was not great & sun down was early, this did not detract from us getting out & about. Visited the close by towns & villages, Gloucester, Ross, Tewkesbury, Monmouth & others. Recommend speaking to locals (we did in the pub) to discover places of interest & special walks with views & hidden delightful villages, such as Tintern Parva. We will certainly keep this Holiday Home in our places to revisit book. Lastly, the owner is very charming & helpful, thank you. Anne & Robert

  • "Had a lovely week at Ostlers, Pat was a wonderful host, homemade scones with jam and clotted cream on arrival and also a tin of treats for the dog!"

Butter, bread, milk, tea, coffee, sugar all provided and delicious home made marmalade! Everything you needed was there, if you want to eat out you have to go further afield, Mitcheldean has three takeaways but no restaurants, there is a well stocked coop a 3 minute walk away. Ostlers has a lovely garden as well, no pictures on the site but there should be! Would recommend a stay here, easy to get to lots of the lovely sites that the Forest of Dean has to offer!

  • "I have stayed in several of Sykes holiday cottages and Ostlers was by far the best."

The owner's hospitality was second to none. No complaints at all, only plaudits. Being a Cotswold rural cottage, one can expect a few 'foreign bodies' and I did have to hoover on arrival to remove spiders and cobwebs. I still found a dead spider in the bed on the first night - I must have layed on it. On a matter of generalisation and regarding key access, it was quite stressful to find that on telephoning the owner 6 hours prior to arrival, whilst en route from Holyhead Port, that the provided number was unobtainable. This continued for 3 hours until, in desperation, I had to contact Sykes directly to be given a different number to call. All available contact telephone numbers need to be offered to customers. With Ostlers, the owner lives next door but we did not know that. What if the owner is remote and cannot be contacted? Sykes should ensure this cannot happen.

It’s super comfortable and beautifully decorated. Pat is the perfect host and a lovely lady. She even left homemade scones(possibly the best I’ve tasted), jam, marmalade, bread, milk, butter and cream. There was also a huge tin of dog treats so everyone was thoroughly spoilt upon arrival. We rebooked before we left we enjoyed it so much. I can’t rate this property and its warm and friendly owner highly enough.

It would be slightly snug for four adults, considering a lack of formal dining space. Pleased with the owners considerate welcome, and various provided goodies. Parking is a little tight for anything other than a small car. The two local pubs in the village proved to be a let down, they are clearly struggling post covid. We found an iron ,but did not see an ironing board, would be a good addition. A great choice for touring the local area, which we loved .

She had ready a travel cot, stair gates and high chair on arrival and the fridge was filled with bread, milk, marmalade and jam/cream and scones. She later came with treats for the dog too. The bedrooms were a great size and accommodated us well, it was very handy to have the two shower rooms too. The living room was a little snug for us (family of 4 with 5yr old, 2yr old and dog) but we weren’t there much as there were so many lovely places to visit and walks near by. A perfect place for us to base to wander the Forest of Dean. Cute place and super host, thank you for having us x

You only get one opportunity to make a first impression. Pat did not fail!. From the scones, jam and cream on arrival, adequate supplies of tea, coffee and milk, even down to the treats for the dog, ( woof, woof from Woody) The masses of information about the surrounding area gave all the information you would need to plan your sightseeing trips. The owner has provided everything that you need for a comfortable stay. The welcome goodies on your arrival are a lovely touch...and very much appreciated when you have a tired and hungry 3 year old! The only negative is the parking. It is nice yo have a secure, off street spot. However, when people park inconsiderately on the street, it does make the parking tricky. We'd happily return to Ostlers as lots of nice walks, pubs and places to explore.
