  • "A lovely big house with spacious bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen in a beautiful location."

Peaceful and quiet with fantastic views. Despite the heavy rain seven children entertained themselves in your spacious garden. Who needs a trampoline and swings when there’s a rugby ball, puddles and amazing trees to climb in! Hot tub was a big hit with everyone House does need a little TLC, fixtures and furnishings are quite dated. However, we have enjoyed celebrating 3/50 birthdays. Will return again in the near future.

  • "The house is great."

The host were available and very welcoming. Plenty of space downstairs even for big group. Garden is very big. Not really anything that you can walk to, but everything is a very short ride away.

The property

Mucky Cottage is a unique and spacious hideaway on the edge of the charming village of Naunton, set in expansive grounds, this wonderful home has breath-taking views over the Windrush Valley and is the perfect retreat for a family or a group of friends.

Ample parking welcomes you on arrival as you unload your luggage from your cars and marvel at the stunning property before you, before entering into the front door which opens up to a bright entrance hall, handy for storing coats and muddy boots.

Wander into the spacious sitting room which offers lovely views of the garden and is a tranquil space for you to chill out on the large corner sofa as you pop on a DVD or choose from the selection of board games, as you’re warmed by the woodburning stove.

The well-equipped kitchen is ideal for rustling up an evening meal before retreating to the dining room in the beautiful Cotswold stone orangery to enjoy your food, surrounded by panoramic views of the rolling countryside beyond.

The ground floor also hosts a utility room sat adjacent to the kitchen, a shower room, a handy cloakroom and lastly one of the bedrooms, which has pleasing views overlooking the garden and contains a king-size bed, a quaint ornamental Cotswold stone fireplace and a gorgeous wooden piano for budding pianists to practice their notes.

Climbing upstairs to the first floor, you will find two homely bedrooms, the master has impressive views over the Windrush valley, contains a king-size bed and benefits from a separate dressing room and a large en-suite walk-in rain shower room, the second bedroom is bright and spacious and contains an inviting king-size bed with an en-suite bathroom.

Further stairs lead up to the eaves of the house on the second floor where you will find two further bedrooms and a shower room, bedroom three is a characterful dual aspect room with sloping ceilings and low beams containing a king-size bed and additional small double sofa bed, the fourth bedroom is ideal for children and contains twin beds with an additional small double sofa bed with an en-suite walk-in shower room.

Once you’ve got well acquainted with the internal rooms, head to the extensive grounds that cover around half an acre, which boasts panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and is mostly lawn, with a patio area bordering the orangery dining area, where you can sit and enjoy the fresh country air.

A luxurious hot tub sits on the other side where you can immerse yourself in the bubbles and a sunken patio beneath a beautiful pergola sits a little way from the property and provides a second seating area and a barbecue for you to make use of when the weather allows.

Head out and get some fresh country air and discover the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds, with the centre of Naunton right on your doorstep and the River Windrush flowing through the village which is set in a ‘bowl’ within the scenic Cotswold hills, it’s the perfect place for exploring.

The Black Horse Inn is just 0.8 miles from your doorstep where you can enjoy the pleasant ambience and home-made, locally sourced food and drinks.

A short car ride will put you in Bourton-on-the-Water, which is often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ due to the low arched bridges that cross over the River Windrush, an array of shops and attractions can be found here such as Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection and The Model Village which is a mini replica of the village itself, and Greystones Farm & Nature Reserve which is home to wildflower meadows and a working organic farm; offering time out from the hustle and bustle of the village centre.

Visit the historical market town of Stow-on-the-Wold where you can stroll around the market square and discover the town stock which dates back to the 15th century and is shaded by a majestic Elm Tree and then head over to St Edward’s Parish Church where you will find the enchanting looking tree surrounded doorway and finally, finish off with refreshing tipple at The Stag at Stow.

Cheltenham is just under a 30-minute drive from Mucky Cottage and has a wealth of activities; if you’re into a spot of shopping The Promenade is the place to be as it has been named as one of the top five best shopping streets in Britain!
