  • "We found the property to be in need of a deep clean, renovation and update."

When we arrived the heating and hot water was out which took some time to fix. Then the next morning we woke up and the electricity had stopped working. The smart TV intermittently would stop working and I think needed new batteries and none in the house. The furniture felt a bit dusty and unclean. No toiletries are provided except hand soap, and the hand soap was heavily watered down. Only the tiniest bit of washing liquid provided so we needed to buy our own! Booking through manor cottages was also not ideal - it was difficult to communicate any requests in advance. Would much rather go through an Airbnb where you communicate directly with the owner. Overall would not stay again.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Willow Cottage. I'm sorry to hear you had a couple of issues at the property, but i believe you spoke to our out of hrs with regards to the tripped switch, which temporarily turned off the power, along with the TV as the power was down and effected all electrical appliances for a short period of time. The remote just needed some new batteries, which we would normally provide, but unfortunately we couldn't late on Christmas Eve so apologies for this inconvenience . With regards to the cleaning we will pass on your comments to Managed Services for review, but we can only apologies if this wasn't up to our usual high standards. With regards to the soap, we only provide a starter pack which is enough for a few days, this includes, toilet rolls, hand soap, a few dishwasher tables, sponge, cloth, washing up liquid. Never the less you should have enough of everything for a few days. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Well appointed and charming cottage located in bucolic village of Hampnett."

Instructions were clear and easy to follow for check in and departure. Maintenance was attentive and quick to respond when we reported an internet issue. Town is close to other villages and near several really nice walking trails. Loved staying here and would return and recommend to others. Two issues: kitchen needs a deep clean rather then regular "touch up" and Internet is intermittent, not dependable. Overall, a peaceful vacation and great apot to provide much needed respite!

  • "Perfect location right in the center of the Cotswolds- just what we were looking for in location."

Adored the tiny hamlet of Hampnett and the church. The surrounding area is gorgeous. The cottage itself was very dusty, cobwebs everywhere, don't look to close at the bookshelves!! When we arrived no sheets on the beds and we had to sleep the first night on the mattress pads. We had issues with the electrical, wireless and TV. Blew a fuse in the kitchen one morning and no instructions so we had to search for the fuse box and finally found it to turn on the fuse. TV and Wifi were out most of the week. instructions were to reset the router however in a top shelf in the laundry room was a pile of cords and routers that were not clearly marked with instructions on what to reset. I also don't think anyone has dusted that shelf in years and it was disgusting when we tried to reset all the routers. That did not work and we called into the service line but they were no support. I would suggest that you clean up the router shelf and clearly label each box and ensure your housekeeping cleans before renting. Finally we had an issue with the electrical in the laundry. The power strip that the washer/dryer was plugged into went out when we were doing laundry. We had to unplug all the routers on that dirty top self to use that power strip to finish laundry.

  • "The cottage itself is very nice and in a lovely setting."

It is spacious with good sized rooms and very well equipped with crockery, cutlery etc. However it is well worn, especially the carpeting on the stairs. On some stairs, which are quite steep, it was close to threadbare making it dangerous. We question whether it was freshly cleaned when we arrived, finding some dead flies etc on window sills and the kitchen table top dirty when first wiped. 3 of 4 spot lights in the en suite bathroom were not working but were replaced when reported to the rental agency. We could not get the TV to work and neither could the person who came to fix it. He managed to find and lock in for us BBC 1 channel and said he would report it and someone else would come out. This did not happen, in spite of giving this feedback to the rental agency, so we only had that one channel for the whole 2 weeks we were at the cottage. We had friends visit us and stay with us while at the cottage and there was no rubber safety mat for the bottom of the tub in the guest bathroom- another safety hazard.

Hampnett is a beautiful village in the Cotswolds and Willow Cottage is picture perfect and very comfortable. It is time to turn off the underfloor and towel rail heating as it was getting very warm

Thank you for your review which is much appreciated. We're delighted you had such a wonderful stay at Willow Cottage and loved the village too. We will pass on your comments regarding the heating to the Property Manager. Best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner

We really enjoyed our stay - thank you! Also appreciated that there were basic kitchen pantry items as we arrived late and jet lagged the first night and were able to cook a simple but much-needed dinner. Charming accommodation!

  • "The decor of the cottage is charming."

Unfortunately, we experienced many issues that were slow to be resolved. The information binder contained incorrect information regarding the contact person. We were told to email Lorna for problems. She finally replied she hadn’t worked for the cottage for 2 years. The heater did not work for 2 frigid nights. We received logs but that only helped the living room stay warm. The oil heaters provided no heat. The toilet in the primary bedroom does not flush properly. A prior guest notified the owner of the problem as evidenced by her note left in the instruction binder. Yet, still not fixed. After the first day, the refrigerator stopped working and ice left in the freezer by prior guests leaked onto the floor. Although we were told to contact 24/7 person for assistance, which implied someone is on call to respond, this was not so. Person was slow to respond and address our issues. Because of that, we didn’t bother to report the refrigerator issue. The cottage itself is quite lovely and picturesque. Someone should have inspected the cottage prior to out arrival to ensure everything functioned properly.

.. except for the ensuite toilet on the 3rd level. The plumbers were called and came immediately but, despite their best efforts, the toilet could not be fixed and we needed to go use our traveling companions toilet. We could still shower in the ensuite bathroom but the toilet issue was not resolved while we were there. It was NOT the plumbers' fault ... they tried their best.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope that the issues regarding the toilet did not leave a lasting impact. We have since got this resolved and would love to welcome you back one day in the future. Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Willow Cottage however we would like to mention a few areas that need attention."

When we found the key and opened the front door the security alarm went off and we didn’t know the code , we tried ringing the numbers in the booklet but to no avail and then Stu the gardener called back and he didn’t know so after searching I found the code in the booklet . I would think the alarm code would be with the key code in the email sent to us before check in. The laundry was a mess and needs tidying up particularly the Christmas tree on the floor. When I used the washer and dryer together the power went off so I called the numbers again to no avail , then I called Stu again and he came around and tested the cord and found another cord to rectifythe problem . The first floor bathroom the wooden toilet seat has a crack in it which is very unhygienic. Regards, Joanne Spann

Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay at Willow Cottage. We can confirm that the alarm code will now be printed on the confirmation we provide and can only apologise for the inconvenience that this caused you. We will arrange for our maintenance team to attend to the other issues raised and thank you for highlighting them. With best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Looked just like the listing. Quite, wonderful village and friendly welcoming neighbor. Would stay there again without question. The payment process with Sykes was difficult, site can't handle overseas payments. Heating in living space was cool and we can't adjust - but figured it out with plug in heater. Bed in lower level room wasn't comfortable.

As far as the kitchen was concerned it would be helpful to have a couple more saucepans as there was only one, plus a casserole pan. The rest were frying pans and a steamer...... Also there was no useable front door key even though a second one was on the ring and this meant we had to go up the muddy leafy path through the back door every time which became quite slippery as it was on a slope. However these are minor points only and did not detract from a very comfortable stay. We would definitely come back.

  • "We had a really lovely stay at Willow Cottage."

The space is tastefully decorated and full of character, the images really don’t do it justice. The bedrooms are both a great size with lovely linen and the kitchen and living spaces are both very generous in size. Hampnett is much quieter than other villages in the Cotswolds and provided the perfect base to explore the region, and is a short walk to Northleach and The Wheatsheaf Inn where we had a great Sunday roast. The neighbours are also all very lovely to chat toand Hampnett was a very friendly and charming little village - we would love to return and would definitely recommend Willow Cottage to other friends planning a trip to the Cotswolds.

Nothing was too much trouble for housekeeping. Incredibly clean and it really did feel like home from home. It was a change of environment for my parents during such sad times. 5 star accommodation and although only an hour away from our home it has energised us all. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

  • "This cottage is steeped in character, lovingly furnished, and super cosy."

It had two well-appointed bedrooms and bathrooms, and as two couples travelling we had plenty of room. We enjoyed walks directly from the property and would definitely recommend it for a quintessential stay in the Cotswolds.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Willow Cottage."

It was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and welcoming. We only wish we would have stayed longer. We enjoyed the village of Hampnett and visiting with our friendly neighbours. The village church is worth visiting as it was beautiful and interesting. There were many foot paths from the village to enjoy walking. The Willow Cottage was conveniently located near the two major roadways making travel to most areas in the Cotswold easily accessible. I cannot recommend it enough!

  • "Staying in this cottage was a daily struggle."

Every day we had to deal with the dilemma: are we going out or will we stay in? The cottage was too lovely and comfortable to leave, but the area too beautiful not to go rambling (by car or on foot). In other words, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Willow Cottage and in the Cotswolds!

  • "We truly enjoyed our time at Willow Cottage."

From the wonderful surprise of finding the hamlet it sits within, to then, when unlocking the door, finding a very special place to spend the week, to, also, the paths leading from its front gate through fields with sheep and more Cotswolds beauty, it was just lovely to be there. Northleach, a very pleasant walk from the house, is a charming town with great things to discover, including a fantastic pub and a back-in-time butcher. The house has truly beautiful bedrooms and two great baths. The living area and garden are delightful and the kitchen, something from a magazine. Lorna, the property manager, was fabulous in helping with any questions we had. Having two main routes nearby that took us anywhere in the hills we wished to go was great, particularly when so many of these beautiful villages are often kept that way through challenging, narrow-lane roads, much like the ones that keep Hampnett from being a cut-through, and so, preserves it even while it's perfectly convenient to so much the area has to offer.

  • "Willow Cottage, located in the delightful village of Hampnett, nr."

North Leach, is tastefully and comfortably restored with quality soft furnishings, antique furniture, two modern bathrooms and 2 beautifully decorated bedrooms. The owners have furnished the cottage with loving attention to detail. The private rear cottage garden provides for outdoor living and dining. It was a fantastic base for exploring the Cotswolds. We used the large range and kitchen for evening meals but ate lunch out at historic inns within 10 miles: - located in Northleach (Wheatsheaf), East Leach Martin/Turville (Victoria) Withington (Mill) and Chedworth Roman Villa. All of which are 40 min by car from Willow Cottage. The public footpaths nearby took us into the fields on walks to discover farm animals and wild life. Willow Cottage was an integral part of our recent pastoral holiday and should not be overlooked when planning a short break or week holiday in the Cotswolds.

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER

Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
