“Peaceful and Pretty”
Hope Mansell is a lovely, quiet location, close to lots of the attractions in the Forest of Dean with many country lanes to explore. Even in August there was very little traffic. The owners were very friendly and left us to our own devices, which we appreciated - but were only next door if we would have needed them. We have two young boys so enjoyed our days out at Goodrich Castle, Clearwell Caves, Dean Heritage Centre, Symonds Yat (East is nicer than West which is a big caravan site with just snack bars rather than pubs). We also did some short walks in the forest starting at the really nice Forestry Commission sites which you can park at all day for £5. All of the main attractions are within a 30 min drive. The house was clean and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. The only thing that wasn't clear on the instructions which affected us was that the two bedrooms were on opposite sides of the house which meant we had to have our youngest boy sleeping with us. Not a problem for most but something to bear in mind depending on the ages of your children. Otherwise, I would recommend the owners (who have another cottage to rent in Larne, Wales), the accommodation and the area.
