  • "Amazing property to stay at, so many things to keep you occupied."

Thinking of making this an annual event and talked to others about visiting as well. Local pubs are not open so it’s the local social club that’s the option unless you want to drive. Brill stay all in all

  • "The cottage is lovely but could do with some fresh paint."

It does look a bit sad from the outside. Also we were not told that the dishwasher had broken so that was not ideal. A note could have been left or we could have been emailed in advance. The breakfast bar chairs look like they could do with replacing. Apart from that, a lovely place to stay in a lovely area.

Apologies Amanda New stools have been ordered will be situe next week Dishwasher inconvenience I know, especially on hols, I did have an engineer visit as quick as I could and is now good to go. With this in the forefront of my mind I did send an email straightaway to let you know. This must have been missed so again apologies within the email I mentioned that to make up for this inconvenience we left two bottles of wine and extra Nespresso capsules. Again apologies all feedback welcome. Property Owner

On arrival the house was spotlessly clean and everything was as advertised. The garden is huge and excellent for our dogs to have complete freedom whilst allowing us to relax knowing they were safe. The village is very quiet but you are within easy reach of Gloucester, Cirencester and other towns of the Cotswolds. The Hot Tub is a brilliant extra which helped us relax and forget about work etc. Will definitely be looking to book again in the future

  • "The property fulfilled all of our requirements and was great value."

It was very clean and well equipped. We had excellent weather and the pergola was brilliant, enabling us to eat outside all the time, but it wouldn't have been a problem if it had rained as there are plenty of things to do. Watching the Champions League final in the cinema room was amazing! Dog walking was excellent, a bit hilly at times but compensated by the views. We had 2 meals out at lovely venues within 10 minute drives. Sainsburys is 10 minutes away, and a small Co-op 5 minutes walk. We didn't want to leave at the end which probably says it all.

Space enough for family time plus many areas if you wanted to do something different. Loved the movie room, jacuzzi and games room, plus the garden is spacious. We loved it. Actually thinking of making our stay an annual event. If I was to make a suggestion it would be TV in master bedroom but not important.

Plenty of toilets on each floor. Games room and cinema room a real bonus. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this house to our friends.

The house was clean, tidy and spacious. Kitchen fully stocked with cooking accessories, crockery etc. Cinema Room, Games Room and hot tub a big plus. Warmest hot tub we have ever had! Slight issue with Sky, but spoke to owner who was sorting it out. Lovely and safe garden for our dogs. Really like our privacy so was concerned about hot tub being checked every day, but lady was very discreet and came and went very quickly with a smile and a wave. We all enjoyed our time there.

We booked the house for 2 adults, 2 older teenagers and a dog, thinking that the games room and hot tub would be great if the weather was bad. Well it's been a super scorchio week and those facilities have been well used as we couldn't face going out in 30+ degrees! The garden is huge and as well as football, badminton, frisbee etc, offers lots of deep shade. We took several early morning walks up into the woods and found the Cotswold Way - beautiful woods and views, free car park also available. Found the Soho Bakery which was fab, jaunts into Stroud for the Saturday farmers market and Gloucester for the Quays outlet centre. Ben's Chinese takeaway is the best we've ever had! Will definitely be coming back again. Hosts responded instantly with two minor issues. House is immaculate. Brilliant holiday!

Avalon very much exceeded my expectations, it was spacious, comfortable and luxurious with lovely character to the house. The cinema room was fabulous, the kids set up camp there and only left to find food, it even had its own fridge and toilet! The games rooms was also a lot of fun and a great extra space to hang out in. The house itself is extremely well equipped we easily fed and watered 8 of us from the kitchen and dining areas. Plenty of clean cosy bedding and options for twins/doubles across the 4 bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms and toilets too which avoided any queues! The hot tub is a fabulous touch and kept so clean with Debbie attending (very quietly) every morning to check it and top up any required chemicals. The owners are easily contactable for advice and tips and were so responsive with our questions about takeaways locally! We didn’t explore the local area as were there to just relax and enjoy the house and garden (garden is massive and so well cared for which our dogs especially loved!). No negatives about this place and I’m looking for a reason to go back! Thank you to the owners for providing and maintaining this lovely place to stay.

We visited beautiful or fun places in the surrounding area every day with the kids but the house definitely allows you to include 'staying at the house' as an activity for kids and adults. The garden is a great size for football, tag, letting the dog burn off some energy; we played darts, pool, had popcorn and watched films in the cinema room (which is separate to the main house), enjoyed the jacuzzi every day, used the fire pit to toast marshmallows, BBQ'd and dined outside - it was great. The house is really well stocked with glasses and cutlery which means as a large family we didn't feel we had to constantly clean to function. Thank you!

  • "This house in general is fantastic, however it is let down by simple things."

Ie .. no scouring pads, no kindling/fire lighters, cobwebs all over the outside lights and seating area outside by the stove. A dog poo in its bag left on the drive ! The jacuzzi was green on arrival and don’t believe it was looked at until Monday ( could be wrong ) fortunately we knew about jacuzzi’s so treated it daily ourselves and even had to do a “ shock “ treatment on it as the levels were so off ! Really disappointed with the 2 teabags, no coffee or sugar ! A few basic herbs would of been nice, or even better a welcome hamper ! Garden really needs looking after better ! Grass long on arrival and was cut at 7.50pm 2 nights before we left, pots full of weeds as is the drive. Such a shame as the house and outdoor space is so family friendly. It just needs a little more love and care shown to it.

Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to hear of the issues you had with the hot tub. We do have the hot tub checked on a daily basis and were not made aware of any issues during your stay. We do hope that our guests contact us as soon as any issues do arise so that we are able to rectify these speedily. Unfortunately the weather was against us before your stay and too wet for us to mow the grass and the grass was cut as soon as we were able to. All essentials are left such as as in dishwasher tablets, new j cloth, tea towel, black bin bags, coffee, tea, sugar, coffee pods for the coffee machine and a complimentary bottle of Prosecco to wish you well on your holiday. • "Avalon was advertised as a cottage for 9 people."

We were a family group of 9 - 6 of whom were adults. Due to the covid situation and hospitality just opening up we paid an absolute premium for this property (£3000+) as there were not many properties available for our requirements. In our opinion, this property should have been at least half the price. I don't normally complain but when you spend this much money you expect a certain standard. Our main issue with our stay was that there was nowhere big enough for us all to be together socialising. It was true that the table from the kitchen could be put together with the other table in the dining room but it was cramped to say the least. The living room only had 2 2-seater sofas and there were no other chairs so this set up just didn't work for us. The bedrooms were fairly nice except the top double room - the bed was right under the low ceiling beam - ie when you turned over you could easily hit your face on it. The decorating/finish in the house was awful - ripped wallpaper, wallpapering done and cut around shelves, horrendous paint jobs, main bathroom tiles - sealant everywhere etc. Several things broke when we were there including the tap handle - luckily my husband fixed this. Outside was a terrible disappointment, it was a lovely large space but we had the fear of god put into us about respecting the neighbours in the welcome pack. The garden had a large shipping container in one corner and a ramshackle canvas structure in the other which was basically used to store wood and lawnmower etc. There were weeds everywhere in the parking area and patio area, and overgrown plants everywhere - also around the windows of the house. There were not enough of the nice chairs to go around the table for outdoor dining and the other set of wooden ones were on their last legs and in a very sorry state. The side of the house, the grass wasn't even cut and broken items left around. The hot tub was a nice addition but only 2 sets of jets worked properly so not great if there were more than 2 of us in there. On the last day it was smelly and a funny colour. So overall the property was very run down and needed quite a lot of tlc and they definitely shouldn't have charged so much for it.

And the outdoor facilities were a real bonus, especially the hot tub. The house is well equipped and comfortable. For a large house, it would be useful to have more than one walk in shower in the property. We found it difficult to work out how to set up the equipment In the cinema room, it could have done with some instructions, and we weren’t able to align the projector with the screen, and some of the furnishings were very tatty. The garden needed tidying up to, and generally a bit of talc. But overall the property met our needs, and we enjoyed our stay.

We found under the current circumstances it could have had been cleaned With more detail as we had to do a few extra cleaning bits ourself. Also the property has some great outdoor facilities and is advertised for families/groups but were made aware of sensitive neighbours if we were having to much fun on our holidays, this was also reflected by many comments in the guests book. This was a massive shame as it makes you weary of being in the garden enjoying the surroundings and extensive facilities especially when it’s too hot to be in the cottage and your on your holiday. Overall we had a great break at this cottage But I don’t think we would return due to the neighbours which is a great shame as the cottage is a great place to spend a family get away.

For the more energetic in the party take a walk along the Cotswold Way and take advantage of the many canal paths, cycle tracks and the National Trust common lands.

About the location

LEONARD STANLEY

Stroud 3 miles; River Severn 7 miles.

Leonard Stanley is a Gloucestershire village nestling beneath the Cotswold escarpment, overlooking the Severn Vale. Formerly, a Saxon village, Leonard Stanley became a busy weaving and agricultural centre, with shops and cottage industries. The community however still has a heart and the wealth of rural life still exists. The village is situated seven miles from the the city of Gloucester and thirty miles from Bristol.
