The cottage was perfect: clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Gorgeous views all around. Great location for visiting the area, loved the community shop in the village.
Lucy was very helpful when my husband wasn't well, much appreciated. Highly recommend this cottage.

"I had such a lovely relaxing time at the granary."
When I arrived there was snow on the ground, but the house was still cozy and warm. Good sized bath to relax in. Tiny local shop which has a surprisingly good selection of cheeses and bread and fruit and veg.
The hosts were kind enough to wash some clothes for me too

"Woke up and decided to take a weekend break."
A reservation was made, and the two hour wait (for offices to open), for confirmation was a nervy one. We arrived late afternoon, unloaded and settled in. The Granary was warm, had a very good feel to it, and a little quirky on first inspection. Just what I like. While making something to eat, in the well equipped kitchen/dining room; we had a look at the many guides available and made a few choices on what was readily available nearby. Walks, historical locations, sporting activities, to name a few. Found these to be very useful. The weekend was spent visiting Chepstow - some very nice charity shops, and The Ugly Mug cafe was a laugh-a-minute -; Castle Coch, Caerphilly Castle, where we found due to it being St Davids day, had free entry. On the day it snowed, adults and children were out enjoying the snow, the village a hive of activity. All friendly and quite happy to have a conversation. A quiet location, peaceful at night, with some lovely views across the fields. Beautiful the day it snowed. The castle remnants a few feet away helped to add a long established feel. The local farmer shop with fresh produce was good as well. Getting to and from places of interest was easy enough, too. For a weekend break The Granary is an ideal (Apart from our disagreement about listening to the football scores at the kitchen table), likeable and very inviting place to stay. Clean, tidy, warm; with facilities that made for a very pleasant time away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I do intend to stay again. All the best. Murvyn and Natasha

"Lovely warm comfortable cottage in an ideal location."
Local pub was very welcoming and served excellent food. No worries with roadside parking. Conservatory furniture has been updated since photos and was comfortable to sit in even in a chilly December. Christmas tree was a lovely touch too. Many thanks.

"Absolutely fantastic place to stay."
Very clean, everything you need for a short stay and main bedroom was wonderful. Wonderful views from kitchen windows. Property was nice & warm with the heating on and hot water was lovely & hot. The conservatory and garden area would be lovely in the summer. Stayed here to visit family and would definitely check if available when visiting in the future

"Apart from a slight hiccup on the first day with the key not turning in the lock, we can’t fault anything."
There were some Welsh cakes waiting for us plus some milk in the fridge and a bottle of Prosecco which was a wonderful surprise for our silver wedding anniversary. Very comfortable cottage in a lovely village. We really enjoyed exploring the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley and would definitely go back again to explore it more.

"The Granary was a lovely place for a quiet getaway."
The owner warmly welcomed us and kindly left milk and some delicious Welsh cakes. We had everything we needed and it was great that recycling including compost was available, so much nicer than having to put everything in the bin for landfill as with many holiday cottages.
The accommodation was beautifully decorated and cosy and the conservatory was a joy to sit in and watch the weather coming in and listen to the birds. A lovely place to stay.

"St Briavels."
Peaceful stay in nice surroundings. Plenty to see and do nearby with a car,
Weather could have been less wet and windy but who can you blame for that except Mother Nature?
Overall a lovely stay in a lovely cottage in a lovely village in a great area.
There were sheep in the opposite field one day when I looked out the window and that along with he numerous birds tweeting was a joyous sightand sound.
The owners who live next door have numerous bird feeders set up so are obviously lovely caring people. No issues at all. Thanks Guys, lovely stay.
Don't forget to check out the village community shop a few doors away when you arrive and have some cheese.

) The cottage was warm, despite it being December. The kitchen was well provided with what we needed, plus supplied with tea, coffee, milk etc. Added to all this, it's a beautiful part of the world.

"Fab accommodation and base to explore the local area."
The owners were on hand to answer anything, and responded really quickly. We (2 adults + 2 teens) were only here for the weekend but covered Hay (for bookworm daughter) and a lovely walk by the river there; Go Ape; Sculpture trail; Canoeing and Puzzlewood. Fab weekend, would recommend and hope to return.

"I had an amazing time in this cottage - you can tell the owners look after this property well and they also look after their guests."
Clean, spacious, gorgeous rooms and the village location is peaceful and quiet. I spent many days walking and driving to explore the local area, dipping in and out of Wales. Would definitely recommend staying here and I would love to come back when I can.

"Great location for walking and cycling, in a very nice village."
Local pub serves good food although a little expensive and specialising in seafood (slightly odd, in this location).
There is a local shop which has a good choice of essentials.
Cottage is tidy and has all you need, my wife found the mattress uncomfortable though I was OK with it. Overall we had a great time!

"As a beauty spot the views from the garden and the walks leading down from the ancient church and Norman castle are outstanding and wonderful to stroll down from particularly in the evening."
The location generally offers a wide variety of places to visit but the use of a car is a must with not a lot of traffic but the country lanes our sat nav chose are often quite long and very narrow so passing from opposite directions can be tricky. My 2 sons and I liked the unusual layout of the cottage with the kitchen and dining room upstairs for wit the views on 3 elevations it was so bright and cheerful and with my sitting area in the adjacent bedroom and the conservatory sitting room downstairs we could have our own space if we wanted. Everything worked well including the CH and the modern Kitchen equipment and the beds were comfortable. So it was all a very enjoyable experience and certainly good value.

"The cottage was superbly appointed, with good quality kitchen facilities and utensils - we easily managed to produce a full Christmas dinner, so that proves a point!"
The owner had provided a tree and decorations to make it feel Christmassy, and it was a real home from home. It's a beautiful situation, and we enjoyed some of the short walks from the front door - these described in the excellent welcome pack.
The village is really friendly, and all encountered made us welcome - despite us winning the pub quiz one evening!
We'd love to return in the spring/summer. Very good quality accomodation.

St Briavels is a lovely place to stay,and we had a great time at a play in the assembly rooms,a concert in the church,and a beautiful morning service.We also appreciated the pantry(local store).

"The cottage was in a really lovely setting with delightful views from its own garden which was a little suntrap."
The second (twin) bedroom was comfortable, but with no proper wardrobe space, and the bedside reading lights were too low (on little stools rather than bedside tables). However, these are small issues and the overall cleanliness and decorating of the cottage is delightful. We were particularly impressed with the trouble taken to provide everyday small items in the kitchen, and essential food items. The cake on arrival was very welcome!

"Very nice, clean accommodation."
Some nice personal touches from the owners. Great place to explore the area and within easy reach of many castles (which my 4 year old grandson wanted to see) Unfortunately, we didn’t find the double bed very comfortable and would have preferred a dishwasher to a washing machine. Nice pub with good food across the road, very friendly village with a lovely local shop. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.

"We had a good week at the cottage, and had a warm welcome from the owners with a bottle of apple juice and a lemon cake!"
We enjoyed the fact that milk,tea, coffee, herbs, salt and pepper etc were provided and the owner kindly gave us a list of all that the cottage would provide for us which was so helpful. It was lovely and quiet, with great view of the countryside.
The location was great, and the local shop is well stocked with a friendly shopkeeper!
Our only little comment would be the lack of a comfy chair to sit in at the end of the day! There is a sofa in the bedroom, but during the day it is not well situated for natural light and the chairs in the conservatory one would not curl up in for very long to read a book! As we were out most of the time, this was not an issue!

"The Granary is furnished to a very high standard and equipped very well."
The owners live next door and are very welcoming and supplied 2pints of milk and a cake, plus tea, coffee and sugar and all necessary condiments. After our holiday we received an email asking if we had a safe journey home and thanking us for leaving the property so clean and tidy. This was a very nice touch.

It is lovely inside with wonderful views. Everything was extremely clean and well equipt.
The village is pretty and it's in a very good position for visiting the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. I'd recommend The Granary to family and friends and would love to return sometime.
