  • "We had a wonderful time at the old school house - it was a perfect retreat for our group of 6 ladies wanting an escape from the madness of everyday life for a few days!"

We loved the well equipped kitchen and the beautiful living room with comfy sofas and woodburner. We had an enjoyable meal at the Golden Ball and also a lovely lunch at the Porch House in Stow-on-the Wold which we’d thoroughly recommend. Many thanks for a wonderful relaxing stay

We are delighted that your group had a peaceful stay. Thank you for the recommendations of the eateries. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay."

It was all very comfortable. We had everything there that we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was very clean. A beautiful house. Our only criticism (which is minor) would be the lounge needing some warmth through lighting possibly. It's all very blue which makes it feel and look a little cold.

Thank you for your comments. We have passed your suggestion onto the owner. We are very pleased that you had a comfortable stay. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Fabulous cottage and very comfortable for 9 adults."

Living room spacious with plenty of seating. We all slept well and plenty of hot water for showers. To make the cottage perfect a larger oven and vegetable steamers.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are very pleased that you were all comfortable. We will pass your suggestions onto the owner, Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Overall, this is an excellent, spacious and well located property."

It was clean and well maintained. The following are intended as constructive or helpful comments: * it was difficult to keep the bedrooms in the old part warm * the shower screen in the small bathroom was dangerous as not obvious on entry * a downstairs toilet would be very useful for elderly guests or when a large number of guests. Again these are comments not complaints. Overall this was an excellent place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback which is much appreciated - we always like helpful comments! The issues you have mentioned regarding the heating and shower screen are being reviewed by the owner and property manager so thank you for bringing these to our attention. • "The property was well maintained and very comfortable, one or two issues that should be addressed,1 Carpet in the lounge needs to be cleaned as there were stains on the carpet,2 bathroom shower needs a shower dish to place shower gels and soap in while showering,3 for reference a toilet would have been appropriate down stairs for easy access for people with mobility issues, we found it difficult locating the property with the road diversions apart from that we had great time and was great value considering seven people were holidaying there."

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Old School House. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the property and thank you for your feedback. We will pass on your comments for review with the Property Manager. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely, comfortable family stay at the house."

Would have been a nice addition to have a bbq provided, to max the outdoors. Plus there’s no downstairs toilet, something to bear in mind for elderly or less able guests.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your comments. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We were only 2 couples staying at the this lovely house."

It was spacious, quiet and very relaxing. The house is very comfortable, well equipped and in a great location; very convenient to drive (or 25 min walk) to Stow, supermarkets, fantastic pubs, shops and all lovely surrounding villages and attractions. The only disappointment I would like to point out; no shop or supermarket sells the particular type of pods for the coffee machine. I called in advance to find out about the type of coffee pods and was told they are the ‘common’ pods, which unfortunately wasn’t the case. Luckily there are a few great coffee places in Stow. And 2 recommendations: perhaps a few sun lounges would have been nice and definitely some better pillows on the beds. Apart from that we had a fantastic stay! Thank you! We will hopefully be back in future.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We have taken your comments onboard and have now replaced the coffee machine for a standard Nespresso that uses the pods that can be bought in any shop. We have also added a teapot. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back again. Best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a really lovely stay at the old school house."

The house itself and the setting was beautiful and perfect for our family getaway for a birthday. We would definitely come back again. Only other feedback would be to leave a bit more loo roll. We were easily able to pop into Stow for some but there wasn't enough for the size of the house. Also the hot water settings could do with increasing as it didn't come on in the afternoon at all meaning we quickly ran out for a house of 10 again. We were able to boost this but couldn't find the instructions in the booklet. Thanks for a great stay.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay at The Old School House. We appreciate your suggestions for improvement have taken these into full consideration. We hope to welcome you again one day in the future. Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
